The Chesapeake School Board voted not to take a stance on the Federal Tax Scholarship. But what is it?

Despite pushback from the local teachers' union, the Chesapeake School Board voted overwhelmingly in favor of Virginia participating in the Federal Tax Scholarship Program.

Established under the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the policy allows individuals to receive a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700 annually for donations to nonprofit Scholarship Granting Organizations.

Opponents, including the Chesapeake Education Association, argue the program diverts resources from public education, while proponents view it as an opportunity to expand educational choices.

Hi everyone! My husband has been hosting a FREE social sports club at the greenbrier sports park every Friday from 6-9pm! The ig is @757wellnesshub if you want to see videos of what it’s looked like in past weeks :)

This week, he has a trainer coming in to do a free group workout! We’re so grateful that Coach Court is volunteering her time and we really want to maximize attendance/participation for it so I figured I’d post here to spread the word. If you or anyone you know is interested, please send this along. If you do plan to come for the community workout, please fill out this waiver!

It’s a really good time and a great way to meet new people! And don’t be intimidated if you don’t know how to play pickleball or soccer, there are people at all different skill levels! Also some folks just bring a picnic blanket and hang out in the grass! There’s usually free water and snacks courtesy of our sponsors!

SO TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!! COME THRU!!! PLSSSS

Post image
2 Upvotes

Christ Covenant Church is hosting its second annual fall festival, open and free to the public! Our first year was a big success, and we are hoping to see even more of our community out this year!

Many of our vendors from last year have returned with even more joining in. Baked goods, handmade crafts, books, and more!

But we have plenty of free entertainment, too! Live music, hot chocolate, cider, cotton candy, balloons, face painting, and hay rides! The Chesapeake fire department will also be coming out for the kids to meet the fire fighters, tour their trucks and ask questions.

Saturday November 7th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Christ Covenant Church, 4420 East Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321.

6 Upvotes

If you see a kid standing outside with a sign that is caucasian and looks about 12-14 DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY OR FOOD! That person actually is 28 . I gave them the food and they ran off to what looks like the dollar tree across from the long john silvers on South military hwy as soon as I put it in his hands. Him and someone else is running the scam because they know he looks like a kid and sympathy will be drawn. Just drive by.

The Injectory

7 Upvotes

Ok I realize this is so silly and pedantic, but I have been wondering for a couple years at this point, and I have no where else to ask. What on earth is going on with the high turnover rate of staff at the medspa called the Injectory? Is it the owner? Clientele? The employees in general? Someone has to know the details!

Looking for a puppy to adopt

2 Upvotes

Hello Chesapeake. My wife and I are interested in adopting a dog. Preferably a puppy, some type of lab or retriever.

Also, we are aware there may be some costs associated with vet care criteria. However, we are looking to help someone out, not divest ourselves of hundreds or
Thousands of dollars to buy a breeders animal. Looking to make a difference here.

Recommendations please!

3 Upvotes

Hello all! I just recently moved here and having a horrible time making friends or knowing what to do on weekends and I really want to change that.

I’m a 21M looking for friends or just some recommendations for things to do! Whats your go to bar? Any sports leagues I can join? I just need something, I’m a very social butterfly but, I’ve been in the dumps and figured out I need a little community I can be apart of!

I live in Southern Chesapeake, 10 minutes away from NC border if that helps with recommendations!

Thank you!

Anyone remember the Dollar Tree Market or got any images of it?

Hello, anyone have any images, information, experiences, memories, etc of the Dollar Tree Market? The Dollar Tree Market was Dollar Tree's silent experiment into creating a full grocery store combined with a standard Dollar Tree, which operated from around 2010 to 2015, where it got replaced by an Aldi in 2016 which it is now. Hardly any information exists of the location online, and no good photos of the interior exist either. Posting a good look inside would be a blessing.

Optometrist recommendations?

3 Upvotes

Hi all, my optometrist retired. I've needed another eye exam for awhile to get a new prescription anyway, but I'm noticing some problems with one of my eyes so I figured it's time to finally go ahead and do that. I was looking at MyEyeDr, but figured I'd ask here in case anyone had recommendations. Thanks!

Why no comprehensive thought on major traffic detours?

26 Upvotes

2 years in a row now, North Landing Bridge closes. Then all that traffic gets routed through elbow road. But the cities (both Chesapeake and VB), don’t do anything to alleviate already-congested choke points. I’m talking adjusting traffic light timing to accommodate for twice the amount of traffic. 3 miles of traffic stopping every 90 seconds to accommodate one person turning left is not a good course of action.

Frocktober — Frockalicious Faboalicious

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey! We are having a three part event for Frocktober this year, collectively called Frockalicious Faboalicious:)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you don't know what Frocktober is, I can explain it very quickly here. It's a tradition/holiday that has evolved from dressing up for October, into a event to fundraise for ovarian cancer research.
The modern rendition was popularized by the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF), in an effort to raise awareness, and funds for ovarian cancer. As the cancer is now a common cancer for women, and girls, and has no early detection tests, nor many options for late-stage treatment. It is almost completely ignored by the larger medical community, even though there's a below 50% survival rate for people pass five years with the disease.
Which is why we have to do something to help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So our first of the three events this Frocktober will be a rally to raise awareness for ovarian cancer. Which will occur on the 10th, from 1-2pm, at the intersection of Atlantic Ave & Battlefield Blvd N.

Our second event will be a sidewalk march to also raise awareness for ovarian cancer. Which will happen on the 17th, from 1-5pm, starting at the Atlantic Marketplace, to the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. No, we will not be walking the entire time, the long event time is so we can have rest periods.

Our third, and final event for Frockalicious Faboalicious is a park gathering to educate people about ovarian cancer, and to be more focused on raising funds for research into the disease. This will be held at Lakeside Park, on the 24th, from 2-4pm.

Quick survey on flood defense systems for Chesapeake/ Hampton Roads residents

3 Upvotes

Hey Chesapeake neighbors!

My name is Eric and I am a senior at Grassfield High School right here in Chesapeake. I am currently taking my capstone engineering class and my group has settled on the issue of mitigating flooding by developing potential flood defense systems for individual residencies.

We have created a survey and would love to hear feedback and gauge interest on this idea. It is a really quick 3-minute survey, so if you could fill it out, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much, and have a great rest of your day!

Newbie to Chesapeake Area

19 Upvotes

Hey All

I've just moved to the area from Flagstaff, AZ to be much closer to family and find more opportunities to branch out...explore. Family is great and all but I think I need some friends, or simply people in my community. I love hiking, rock climbing (need a +1), museums, adrenaline junkie things, and trying new foods...I'm also a quiet, low key LGBT person.

If y'all have some pointers, advice, or ideas for how a newbie to the area can get established, socialize, and flourish, I will be super grateful! Trying to figure it out on my own is a bit daunting!

Charlotte and burbs comparison to Virginia Beach, Norfolk & Chesapeake

0 Upvotes

I've been researching Virginia for a minute because many jobs with Capitol are relocating to Charlotte. I know Charlotte and surrounding areas well. I'm a Realtor w BHHS Carolinas and was hoping to get some comparisons that weren't all AI generated. I can start there, but I'd love to hear from humans too. I'd really like to offer insight and comparables to neighborhoods like SouthPark, Matthews, Ballantyne, Myers Park etc. thanks:}
