Walker: posts first ever positive WAR season in 4 years

Some fan: greatest of all time 🤩

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

He’s barely 24 lol

Burleson was negative fWAR until year 4, and started at 23

Hes not the greatest of all time =/= he's not a good player.

-3

u/seattle_lib 8d ago

he was positive WAR in his rookie season

u/dagbar JJ GOATHOLT 8d ago

-0.1 WAR his rookie season

I'll be honest here, I've got one of those Reduce mugs (but it's a bit larger) and it has served me well for maybe 6-7+ years now. Had to order a replacement lid after a few years from the manufacturer but otherwise it works so well.

Also, Walker winning the HR Derby legitimately was a huge morale boost for me as a fan for an otherwise challenging season.

Wild poster to have for a guy with 4 good months out of 4 years lol

Cry about it. Burleson was worse during that time in his career. Young players get better

2

u/Cards2WS 8d ago

Burelson was worse? Huh? Walker was the worst player in the league for 2 seasons

-4

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

Burleson was in AAA until 23. So if he was promoted early he probably would have been much worse considering he was only ~110 wRC+ in lower levels.

People suck here at comparing, you need to be comparing by age. Not fair to Walker he was promoted before ready.

3

u/Cards2WS 8d ago

I agree that he was promoted too early. But you compare by both age and time in the bigs. Fact is, he was the worst player in baseball for 2 years. Saying whatever about if Burly was up 2 years earlier is pointless, it’s all just guessing.

The pure fact is that Walker was absolutely terrible for 2 years. He still had potential and I’m glad he had a big season and I think he will have a good MLB career and could keep improving. But he was bad. We don’t have to hide from that fact

-4

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

So while Burleson was still in college, got it

2

u/Cards2WS 8d ago

Huh? Dude it’s a dumb view point lol. Burleson did what he did when he made the majors. That’s a big part of how you judge him. Same with Walker. Walker also was solid at the plate his rookie year. So he clearly was able to play in the bigs and succeed at the plate… then he was the worst player in MLB for 2 years, both offensively and defensively. That’s on him.

1

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

You’re judging him for just being promoted early before ready. It’s like Javy Baez first two years. Stupid, that’s in the org not him.

Burleson is finally good at age 28, almost 29 cool

Let’s compare WAR 24 and onwards in 10 years. Walker will have double lol

2

u/Cards2WS 8d ago edited 8d ago

It was both. He was in the majors. He was decent as a rookie. Then he fucking sucked. He went to AAA and he fucking sucked there too.

Then he figured it out. Great. The age matters, it does. But that doesn’t change that he was the worst player in baseball.

Also, you’re saying “judging him”. Dude, it’s the stats. He was horrible. That is a fact. Yes there are reasons around it, but even being called up too soon shouldn’t make the #1 prospect in baseball the absolute worst player in MLB. Cmon now

1

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

Burleson was negative fWAR for three seasons lol

And he was an older rookie

Burleson wasn't worse? The moment we called him up hes been hitting well above average?

2

u/minismitty1 8d ago

That's not true at all. Burleson was famously hounded by fans for his below average output his first two years. His third season he finally broke league average.

1

u/SpicyMeatloaf1 8d ago

I guess I must've blocked those years from my head 🤣

2

u/minismitty1 8d ago

I hadn't bc I was an OG Burliever. I remember those dark days

1

u/SpicyMeatloaf1 8d ago

"Burliever" 🤣😆 never heard that one before lol

1

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

He was negative fWAR first three seasons

1

u/Doctor_Killshot 8d ago

Lots of young players start bad and show flashes as they age. But I’m not buying flags with their team photo over an atom bomb exploding every time it happens

1

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

Who cares

Walker is promising too, he's not a random high floor prospect. He has a majorly high ceiling.

5

u/DangerDrake1 8d ago

Peak styles---but please do yourself and Jordan Walker a favor and iron the creases out of that bad boy on low heat.

10

u/dubyamike 8d ago

You’re expecting a lot for a flag hung in a college dorm room.

5

u/Dr_thri11 8d ago

Sigh, goat means greatest of all time not good player that I like.

5

u/RobotSifl 8d ago

"Uhm, actually" vibe

4

u/Dr_thri11 8d ago

Words mean things and people over using goat, like using it to describe a player that has had one above average season is a hill Ill die on.

-1

u/Soti76 8d ago

If everyone is a goat then no one is a goat

-4

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

Same fanbase that glazes Spezio and Bo Hart

-1

u/RobotSifl 8d ago

OP didn't specify the goat at what. Jordan Walker is the goat of being someone named Jordan Walker that plays baseball. who tf cares. Not to mention he said "my" goat. You're going to tell OP that Jordan Walker can't be his goat?

5

u/Dr_thri11 8d ago

Yes I am going to tell op that a guy with 1 3war season is nobody's goat.

2

u/RobotSifl 8d ago

Ya know what? - Jordan Walker is my goat, too. There. Now what.

2

u/Cards2WS 8d ago

People are really slamming you for this comment lmfao. But I have to agree… the way GOAT has become used in mainstream in the last couple years is weird to me. I just don’t understand what they’re going for. What does goat mean in this context?

2

u/Dr_thri11 8d ago

It means guy I'm a fan of to some people and I call it out when I see it in the sports subs I follow. I actually really like Walker and think he's a future star. But a player with that much career left can't be the goat and he's probably already too far behind in stats to be the greatest ever.

Unemployed grievances

-8

u/camera-operator334 8d ago

Sensing weird racism.

Burleson was largely mediocre (hell he was BAD and negative fWAR) before his late 20s breakout and no one says anything bad about him. I don’t get it, oh wait, I do

6

u/Dr_thri11 8d ago edited 8d ago

Feel free to go through my comment histories where I've called people out for overly glazing Burleson.

Greatest of all time can only be 1 guy and it ain't a 24 yr old with 1 3.3 WAR season. Seriously fuck off with that racecard bullshit.

u/Negative_Sundae_8230 8d ago

Im a white dude and Jordan is by far my favorite player and biggest PC for my baseball card collection. I don't believe racism has anything to do with this conversation, some people are just miserable assholes......especially on the internet.

1

u/robm1967 8d ago

Walker?

1

u/DrPisstrousers 8d ago

is that an otamatone?

2

u/Maduro25 Jimmy Halfshirt 8d ago

Dang, on my cinder block dorm room wall I had a poster of Nolan Ryan with a bloody jersey. Now THAT was a GOAT.

1

u/SPLASH_WATERFALLS 5d ago

Where did you get it?

1

u/ElevenAndCounting rally cat 4d ago

HR derby champ so obviously the GOAT 🤡

1

u/Sudden_Giraffe_2322 2d ago

😂 I love this, the whole nuke explosion in the back and the dorky smile lmao.

1

u/guitman27 8d ago

I. Need. That. Flag.

1

u/Aggressive-Act1816 8d ago

I like Jordan a lot, but post HR derby his numbers were not very good. He has amazing talent, hope he puts it all together in 2027!

1

u/Additional-Leg-4408 8d ago

Did you know? At the beginning of the season, Jordan Walker used a song by Victor Scott to walk up to? It’s called Break Shit Down and the artist is “Argo”. Argo is Victor Scott!! Imagine playing in the MLB and being a rapper!!

1

u/Nugoot 8d ago

I’ve seen the comments saying “all this for a few good months” and “so ig we’re calling anyone the goat now”. I gotta say, I thought more of the greatest fans in baseball, can we just celebrate a sensational player??

3

u/Dr_thri11 7d ago

Like I said elsewhere I like Walker and think hes going to have a good career. I'm not shitting on the poster but GOAT is a guy who people who don't even watch sports will know about 80 years after they retire, it's not a synonym for "my favorite player".
