You know when you’ve just been staring at it for too long and can’t tell anymore?

My friend's son is being baptized in about a month, and I want to write a very nice card. I will be using mostly copperplate, but may jazz it up with a little blackletter here and there.
I'm looking for a heavy weight, ivory colored paper that obviously won't bleed/feather. I don't know what makes a "good" calligraphy paper; if it's paper design/surface treatment, or thickness, or both. I will be using Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue ink.
Preferably under $10 since I don't need too many sheets.
Thanks!

Continuing my little title calligraphy series: instead of sake labels this time, here are two of my favorite kung fu movie titles. Wu Xia was directed by Peter Chan, while Shadow was directed by Zhang Yimou. Together, you get the classic kung fu dialectic: Brute Force vs. Elusive Speed. One breaks your ribs, the other makes you question whether you ever saw who hit you. Which one do you like better?

Aviators - The Serpent that Swallowed the Moon
Ph Martin's Iridescent Silver on black Rhodia Maya calligraphy paper
This worked quite nicely :) It's quite a bit brighter than the gold, and I'm thinking next time I'll water it down a little as well, as I had some clogging and consistency issues. But watering it down means remembering to bring some distilled water home from the lab, and that's a very hit or miss prospect...

Hey there
Can anyone tell me what script the Saint John's Bible is written in?
And where, maybe, to find some courses in how to practice this script.

Hi all,
I’m a student currently studying abroad in Taiwan. Just want to share the beginnings of my hobby/side project, trying to practice English and Chinese calligraphy and incorporate Pinyin (the romanization system for learning Mandarin).
地 (dì) means “earth,” “ground,” or “land”.
瓜 (guā) refers to melons or gourds.
地瓜 (dìguā), which translates to sweet potato, carries a significance beyond a simple food for Taiwanese. Introduced centuries ago and cultivated widely because of its resilience in subtropical climates, the sweet potato became an essential survival crop, often mixed into rice porridge or roasted in traditional clay ovens. In contemporary Taiwan, it is now embraced as both a nostalgic cultural food and modern health food, commonly found roasted in convenience stores like 7-Eleven, night markets, and incorporated into desserts. Some Taiwanese affectionately compare the island’s shape to a sweet potato, a symbol of resilience.
What memories and histories come to your mind when you think of 地瓜 (dìguā)?

I was looking for something big with good color coverage (for my floralFucktober project which involves rude calligraphy on patterned origami paper), and I found Molotow markers.
These are the 4-8mm markers with a chisel tip, there's also a 12mm version 😯
They are surprisingly easy to write with, I only have to get used to the rounded edges which kinda throw my aim off :)
Pen: Molotow one4all 4-8mm, signal black / signal white / metallic gold
Script: Textura Quadrata by elettr

Hi All!
First up here is part of a Psalm that I wrote out a few weeks ago with a fairly rapid pace. Used Pilot CM nibs in two Kakunos, one inked with Platinum Carbon Black and the other with a mix of De Atrementis Document Red and Document Orange, in an attempt to make a permanent-ish vermillion. Same goes for #3. Papers were Cosmo Air Light and Midori MD, I think, respectively.
I've been plateaued but just read Alfred Fairbank's great book, A Handwriting Manual, and so now have more of an idea of where we go from here. I would like to get back into larger forms and layouts and so plan to read "Layout and Design for Calligraphers" and focus on that for a bit. Thoughts?

Uneven because I didn't put any boundaries/lines in to make things consistent - I'll do that next time! But I had fun, I think that's what matters when starting something new :)

Just sharing a few recent brush pen lettering attempts as a calligrapher for over 3 years now! I haven’t ever posted anything on Reddit before, but I decided that it would be nice to show my work for once. What do you think about brush lettering and about mine?

For this piece, I tried as much as possible to write "naturally" as if this was my normal handwriting.
1mm brause bandzug, walnut ink.
for the small artwork on the tip, I used some watercolor pencils.
