🥇 Competition Cake A friend asked if I could make her a cake for a Halloween dessert contest. This was my very first time ever decorating a cake. It won!
My friend knows I love to cook and bake, it’s pretty much my primary hobby. But I don’t decorate or make things look pretty haha I just make simple delicious foods and treats from scratch.
But when she asked if I could make something, I wanted to at least give it a shot. Figured why not.
I was super hypercritical of it, I made it in a rush late at night a day before because I forgot when the contest was 😅
She had no ideas and I just sort of worked on a whim. I felt super cliche and unoriginal making it but it was the best I could decide on short notice.
I opted to try using fondant instead of piping because I had zero confidence in being able to pipe well and didn’t have enough time to make a buttercream either.
All in all, start to finish so from mixing, baking, prep, decorating and completion, I did this in about an hour and a half.
There was a lot I regretted and wished I had just started up super duper late so I could make it perfect.
But apparently it was already perfect enough!
She was excited to tell me not only did it win, but a lot of the doctors in the building were gawking over it and pointing out what was the front/back and all the other parts of the brain. And some even said it was too realistic to eat lol
I’m so proud of myself for trying something new, it was actually so much fun and it’s so cool to me that my cake won a contest!
