Question Where to fish for trout/ kokanee

Hey guys I used to live in CO for a few years and unfortunately had to move. I am visiting Denver in 1 week and I’m super excited to fish for my favorite fish ever: trout. When I lived there I made many trips to the dream stream St Mary’s glacier black canyon of the gunnison and many more rivers and streams. I have never caught a kokanee and I would absolutely love to catch one I just don’t know where to go. I saw one time at the dream stream but my girlfriend is also coming with me and she’s never caught a fish. I want to take her to somewhere where she can for sure catch a fish, somewhere I can catch a kokanee, and somewhere that isn’t too treacherous to drive to bc I drive a mustang. I am fishing with spinning rods using rooster tails, trout magnets, and night crawlers for her so that she can get a guaranteed catch. I only have one pair of waders that go up to my hip my old waders that went up to my chest have a hole in the pant leg.

Picture What kind of fish is this?

I showed this to someone and they thought it might be a pureback greenback trout. If true, it was caught in a location that is not known to have them, and no history of stocking in the CPW fishing atlas. I assumed it was a cuttie, but now am curious.

Can someone tell me what kind of trout this is?

Edit: I wrote to CPW, providing a few additional pictures and the location where I caught it. They responded with the following: "Nice catch. I am gonna say that this is most likely not a greenback. A lot of cutthroats were stocked around the state in the 19th century that were believed to be greenbacks but after genetic research they were not and were a "mutt" of multiple strains of cutthroat. To me this looks like a blue lineage cutthroat trout, a strain of the colorado river cutthroat."

Discussion Seeking Fishing buddy

My usual fishing buddies are now busy with kids, so I’m looking for fishing buddies in the Denver area. I’m open to fish the South Park area and almost any area that’s within 2-3 hours drive.

Mostly fly fishing, open to others, DM me for more detail

Question where are the fish biting in the Denver area?

I mostly bass fish and haven't had much luck at cherry creek, quincy, aurora, thornton gravel ponds, chatfield or bringham. My best fishing has been at wash park. I'm gonna try lowell ponds next. Then it's on to throwing nightcrawlers and sitting in a chair waiting for whatever catfish or carp bites it. I usually kayak fish. I also know a few holes filled with tons of carp and I'm just about desperate enough to go after them with some worms.

Question Lost fly rod on Arkansas river

Hi there. Long time lurker first time poster. And it’s an unfortunate post. I left my fly rod on the side of the road by the Arkansas river in between Buena Vista and Leadville. I won’t go into details up front but I know the exact location and can give a description of it. Probably a long shot but well worth it. Please, please say someone found it and turned it in or is waiting to see this post? I’m gonna make the two hr drive down there regardless but I’d be much happier if I knew I was getting it back. It has some sentimental value to me as it’s the first rod my uncle gave me to get me into fly fishing. DM me if you have any info!

Question Amendment 83: Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish

Hi everyone! I am writing an editorial article for my college English class on Amendment 83. We need to conduct our own research for our papers, so I have made a Google Forms survey with some brief questions about the initiative. If you have the time, I would greatly appreciate your responses! The link is posted below. Thank you so much in advance!

Discussion Why do brown trout have such a reputation of being so hard to catch?

I don’t know about other places but here it feels stupidly easy to catch them, just a jerkbait with line no more than 8lb test and slay them all day. Even the bigger ones like to come out to play fairly often. Makes me wonder why people think it’s so hard?

This isn’t really taking extreme fishing pressure into account (ex: Taylor tailwaters, Dream stream, cheesman), but even fairly high pressure fisheries (ex: Taylor river far below tailwaters, gunnison river) feel not that difficult to get them.

Is it just because I live in Colorado?

Question Kokanee near Silverthorne?

I’m going to be in Silverthorne/Breck tomorrow and was hoping to bag a salmon. Obviously we all know the flows are terrible. Has anyone had any luck on the Blue, Green Mountain Reservoir, up near Kremmling, etc?
