Open Invitation: Any candidate running for office is ABSOLUTELY welcome to do a 2AAMA on r/CACCW
I would love for any candidate who would like to have a civil discussion regarding their stance on 2A rights or their position to do so here. I ask that the candidates link and post their official position from their ‘issues’ page of their official website in their thread, and I’ll be happy to pin.
Get your stance on 2A heard and discuss with the people you hope to represent.
I look forward to seeing if any candidates are willing to step up to the plate. To the subscribers of this page, please send the link to this thread to any candidates you would like to have a legitimate 2A conversation with.

*Announcement and Updates - 11MAR2025*
Morning everyone,
I wanted to start by thanking the community at large. Life has taken some wild turns for me over the last year, and I’ll admit I’ve been a sub-par mod. However, as expected, you all have remained cordial, respectful, and willing to share your knowledge with others. I want to personally and humbly thank you for staying the course while I handle everything in my personal life.
UPDATES
FAQ & Wiki:
I’ve noticed many posts from new members, so I’ll be working on a FAQ, a welcome message, and doing my best to start a wiki with county-specific links to policies and regulations. If members can contribute, it would be incredibly helpful and appreciated.
Specifically, I want to have a link to each of the 58 California counties' CCW policies. Owning a firearm is a responsibility, and carrying it in public is an even greater responsibility. In my opinion, anyone seeking the latter should show initiative by educating themselves on the basics first.
While I expect this community to remain good stewards of this right and to continue helping beginners, there also needs to be accountability from newcomers.
If you're willing, please post a link to your county's CCW Policy, FAQ, or other important information, so it can be added to the pending wiki and pinned FAQ post. Suggested format:
Question Posts:
For members seeking information, please include your issuing county in the post title if you’ve already reviewed your county's policies. Too many posts get the response: "It depends on which county." Including this info upfront will speed up answers and improve efficiency.
MOD Recruitment:
I need help! If you’re interested in being a mod, please message me directly. I’m still new to moderating and the behind-the-scenes aspects of Reddit, so this will be a learning experience for me. Ideally, I’m looking for someone with experience who is willing to help run the sub and teach me along the way.
Thanks again, everyone.

EDC Best carry option for a videographer
As the title states, I’m a videographer, and I plan to carry a firearm to protect myself and my equipment. I’m wondering what the best carry method would be for my line of work.
I’ve considered carrying at the 3 o’clock position, but I’m not sure if that would be ideal. I don’t think appendix carry would work well because of the nature of my job. I have to crouch frequently, and the firearm could dig into my stomach. Carrying at 3 o’clock seems like a good option, but I’m concerned that I would print a lot when crouching or moving around.
Another option I’ve considered is off-body carry, specifically using a CCW-designed bag that securely holds the firearm. I already carry multiple bags for my equipment, so bringing an additional bag wouldn’t necessarily be unusual for my job.
I know the answer might seem obvious, but I want to make sure I’m not overlooking any important considerations. For those who work in videography or similar fields, what carry method would you recommend, and why? And even if you don’t still lmk

Process Question Renting a duplex
I’m currently renting a duplex in Monterey county. Would my landlord and the neighbors on the other half of my duplex need to be informed that I’m getting my permit? Don’t know their stance on 2A but I don’t want to make things awkward.
EDIT: guys I can’t expect constitutional gun laws in CA

LAPD CCW modofication question
I currently have 2 pistols on my LAPD CCW, and I really want to change both pistols, to 3 different pistols.
The website states maximum of 2 amendments. Does that mean I can only replace one and add 2 other pistols, or can I replace the 2 listed firearms with 3 different firearms in one amendment, and that would count as 1 of 2 amendments?

CCW holders: have you actually planned for the financial aftermath of a defensive shooting?
For context, we teach CCW courses in California, and one issue we think gets far less attention than it should is what happens financially and practically after a defensive shooting.
I recently sat through a presentation on the criminal justice process and the potential costs involved in defending a serious case.
A few of the numbers stood out:
- About 1,087 combined attorney hours for a non-capital murder case
- About $229,357 in attorney fees using an average criminal-defense attorney rate of $211/hour
- Around 256 days average time to trial for a felony
- Around 193 days for a misdemeanor
- About 3.5 weeks average time before pretrial release
Obviously, those figures are not what every lawful self-defense case will look like. Some incidents may never result in prosecution at all.
But they raise a question I think every person who carries should consider:
If something happened tomorrow, could you afford to retain an attorney immediately?
Could you handle bail if it were required?
Could your family absorb several weeks without your income?
Could you cover $25,000, $50,000, or potentially much more in legal expenses without seriously damaging your finances?
We spend a lot of time in CCW training talking about judgment, avoidance, safe gun handling, marksmanship and the legal use of force.
But being prepared for the incident and being prepared for the aftermath are two different things.
That's why I think anyone carrying regularly should at least look into some type of self-defense legal coverage or have a realistic plan to self-insure.
I'm not recommending any particular company. These programs vary a lot, and the details matter.
For those of you who carry, do you have legal-defense coverage, or have you decided to self-insure?
And if you do have coverage, what mattered most to you when choosing it: attorney fees, bail assistance, civil defense, ability to choose your attorney, or something else?

LAPD CCW — changing the slide
Got my LAPD CCW.
Does changing the slide on my pistol violate the terms of the CCW at all? I want to replace my Shield + slide, with a newer Shield + slide that has an optic mount. I assume that’s ok to do with an LAPD CCW? But wanted to ask in case I am wrong.
