Political yardsigns

I am impressed with Broomfield Residents’ speediness at removing political yard signs they disagree with. (Also referred to as stealing but here we are.) I put out 2 signs supporting HD33 candidate Nate Jorgensen and within 6 hours both were taken. That’s some amazing speed, Broomfield! It’s also a great way to give a louder voice to Nate. Support Kenny all you want but for the love of your candidate, Kenny doesn’t need more negative PR.
Do better Dems.

Looking for a male vet who provides in-home care for cats

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I know this is a strange ask lol, but have a female cat that is terrified of leaving my apartment and also does NOT like women….which makes vet appointments very challenging. She couldn’t even be touched during our last vet appointment since she was freaking out, and she just needs a basic checkup. I wanted to try in-home vet care, but I can only find female vets who do this.

Does anyone have any great MALE vet recommendations that provide in-home care? The first priority is probably finding a male vet, and then bonus points if they do in-home care. I’m in Broomfield. Thank you in advance for the suggestions!

Broomfield is redesigning Midway Blvd and the survey closes Oct 19th. They are asking which side the bike and walking path should go on.

The city is refining its 2022 plan for Midway from the Lake Link Trail to Big Dry Creek. Design is funded with federal money. Construction is not funded and has no schedule, so what gets drawn now is what gets a grant application later.

The survey is six questions plus two maps where you can pin problem spots and pick a side for the path in each segment

Included is an opinion for putting the path on the north side. The south side between Ash and Lowell is shaded in winter and holds ice for days.

Curious whether people who walk or ride that stretch see the same thing.

For everyone worried about Flock, the problem is so much bigger. This platform is open source; anybody can use it, including law enforcement, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I lost my wallet at Phillips 66 on W Flatiron Crossing

Was filling up and somehow I didnt notice that I dropped my wallet at the Phillips 66 at 42 W Flatiron Crossing Dr. Happened around 9pm today.

It had my ID and Global Entry cards and my debit and credit cards. It has an Avs jersey lining the pockets. If anyone has found it, im happy to verify ownership and slide you some cash to get it back.

Or, PLEASE return to the gas station tomorrow and give it to the attendant. They've been closed since I lost it, but I plan on going back tomorrow to ask if its been turned in.

I know posting here is a long shot but im at a loss. I really need my cards and my ID (leaving the country soon) and im extremely worried about it being lost.

Broomfield Ballot Issues 1A and 1B

Hey Broomfield! It’s Paloma on Broomfield City Council. I wanted to share some info about a couple of local ballot initiatives that I’m supporting.

  • 1A: Lodging tax to support the Broomfield Housing Alliance
  • 1B: Utility franchise agreement with Xcel

More info:

1A is a lodging tax, which means it applies to hotel and short-term rental stays lasting less than 30 days. The revenue will fund the Broomfield Housing Alliance (BHA). BHA’s work is to provide housing to low-income people so that they can live in Broomfield. Think preschool teachers, firefighters, home care workers, seniors living off Social Security, and so many others. So basically, it’s a tax paid primarily by visitors that goes to help Broomfield residents. I’ll also add that this tax would be 6% on a nightly stay, which is well under the rates in neighboring municipalities. So Broomfield hotels will be able to keep their prices competitive.

1B isn’t as exciting, but it’s still important. It’s a franchise agreement with Xcel that provides Broomfield with revenue so we can bury power lines underground. In addition, it allows us to work together in the public right-of-way. So if we’re already digging a hole to fix a broken pipe, we can hit up Xcel and ask if they need to fix anything while we’re there (since, see previous note, we already busted a hole in the ground and it would be silly to make them re-dig it). This decreases costs and ultimately reduces construction-related inconveniences for residents, like road closures. If we don’t have this agreement, we’d need a separate contract every time we want to work together in the public right-of-way. This agreement does NOT govern rates and does NOT determine whether Xcel provides service to Broomfield. It’s just revenue for Broomfield plus not having to dig the same hole twice.

Tonight's lineup 🎃

  • John Williams — Screening “Canon” Shot in stark chiaroscuro, Canon sits with the kind of dread and isolation that hits hardest in the witching hour. Williams is a Denver filmmaker and the co-host and programmer of the Emerging Filmmakers Project, the monthly showcase at The Bug Theatre in Highland that has screened local short films since 2002.
  • Luke Ostermiller — Screening “Turn Around” A 14-minute horror/thriller in which one ominous hitch in a plan changes its characters’ lives for good. The film won a Silver Award for Horror Short at the 2017 Spotlight Horror Film Awards, along with a 2017 Denver Open Screen Night Award. Ostermiller is an award-winning director and founder of the Denver production company Loste Films. His work has screened at festivals across the U.S., been distributed on curated streaming platforms, and aired on television.
  • Brad Stabio — Screening “46 Miles” A road movie featuring the Broomfield Butcher, and a reminder that it’s a small world: you never know when you’ll run into someone who shares your passions, even if that passion is murder. Stabio is the founder of Stabio Productions and created the Denver Actor Project, a showcase of local actors that premiered at the Starz Denver Film Festival as a series of six short films. 46 Miles was made in one weekend for the 48 Hour Film Project Denver in 2010, where it won Best Writing, Best Acting, and Best Film, then placed first runner-up and won Best Writing against 80 other city winners internationally before screening at Cannes in 2011.
  • Jay Sherer — Screening “No Vacancy” Investigative journalist Leigh Larson checks into an isolated roadside motel to chase a story, and finds her past sins waiting for her. The film is a short psychological thriller built on mystery and conspiracy. Sherer is a Colorado-based writer, filmmaker, storytelling educator, and marketing strategist whose work spans independent film, fiction, audio drama, and story analysis. He co-founded the nonprofit production company Reclamation Society, where he serves as “Chief Storyteller,” developing genre-driven projects that pair entertainment with emotional and thematic substance.

Candidacy for Broomfield Mayor

My name is James Marsh-Holschen. am excited to announce that I will be seeking election as the next Mayor of the City and County of Broomfield!

We love Broomfield. It has provided tremendous opportunities for many members of our community, but for me, it is personal! I grew up in extreme poverty, working 2 or 3 jobs, even selling blood, to provide for my family and put myself through college. After unexpectedly becoming a young, single father during law school, Broomfield became a safe haven for me and my children. Broomfield was the community that embraced us after law school, opened her arms, and provided us a place to call home and start over! My older children grew and thrived here, graduating from Adams 12 schools! Not only that, this is the community where my wife Alexis grew up. She attended those same local schools and rode her bike to the library in Garden Center. Together, we made the easy decision to call this community home, raise our children here, and ultimately serve its families!

This community can still be that place for ALL of our families, long-time residents and brand-new neighbors alike! But challenges are creeping into that American dream. The affordability crisis is robbing our families of the community in which I found haven. Over 20% of our residents needed food assistance last year. The middle class is being squeezed by the ever-rising cost of housing, childcare, utilities, and transportation. The American dream is being lost for the next generations.

Families, already struggling to make ends meet, are all too often forced to look outside of Broomfield for local dining, recreation, and shopping experiences. We have the Broomfield Town Square, the long-promised community gathering place, inexplicably being delayed on the cusp of groundbreaking. We have housing solutions, representing great progress, that could be better prioritized and affordable to so many more. And we have a transportation system that leaves many stuck in gridlock or stranded due to a lack of services and resources.

It has been my great honor to serve this community and fight for the progressive changes our community demands: greater housing funding and opportunities, increased wages and best value contracting, and taking on the rising cost of utilities that are squeezing the already tight budgets of our families.

I am proud of the progress we have made and the privilege I have had to work alongside dedicated council members and community leaders in these fights. But it is time to take the next steps for our community!

Broomfield is the community that has risen to the challenge before, taking on the entrenched corporate interests of the oil and gas lobby. We have the people who turn out continuously to vote their values of true progressive change. Now we must take the next steps, with the bold vision and will to see those values come to fruition. Not incremental progress, but bold, progressive change to meet the needs of our community! To take on the affordability crisis in every aspect of our residents' budgets. To finally finish the promised Town Square. And to build a community that fulfills yesterday's promise for tomorrow and is truly accessible, affordable, and sustainable for EVERY Broomfield family!

This will be a campaign of values and hard work. Bold solutions, not incremental excuses.

Over the next year, there will be a lot of time to discuss these issues in depth. For the next month, I am asking you to join me in electing the 2026 candidates who embody our progressive values, and in enacting ballot measures that will help our community thrive: 1A, 7A, 87, and NN!

Join me each Saturday in October in speaking with our neighbors and getting out the vote!

I look forward to speaking with each and every one of you and discussing our shared values and vision for our community!

Phone Service

I’m looking for recommendations for companies with decent phone service. Much like a lot of other people, I have horrible service here in town, with dead spots everywhere. I can’t even make a phone call or send a text in my own house.

I have T-Mobile, and I was wondering if anyone’s service is better? I’m in the north side of town near Erie, but really anywhere in town or Thornton/Erie I’m struggling with service. We’ve been considering xfinity, which I think uses verizon towers? I don’t want to make a switch if it’s just going to be the same.

Thanks in advance! 😊

Favorite Broomfield neighborhoods?

My wife and I are looking at moving to Broomfield and I’m curious which neighborhoods locals actually think are the best.

We keep seeing Broadlands and Anthem recommended, but some of the areas we’ve liked most are The Outlook, Eagle Trace, Country Estates and Aspen Creek. The Outlook especially seems really cool but I almost never hear anyone mention it.

For people who know Broomfield well, where would you personally want to live? Any underrated neighborhoods or areas that look good on paper but you’d avoid?

Mostly interested in overall vibe, families/kids, trails and open space, yards, neighbors, noise and anything you wouldn’t figure out just driving through.

Applebees 120th Closed

We drove by just now and all the signs are off the front of the building.

When/why did it close??

Edit: I’m not saying I am sad to see them go or shocked that bad reviews closed them down. I’m more interested in logistics. Like does anyone know what is to become of the property?
Did the rent become too high for them?
Etc.

Looking for a pediatrician and a family doctor for our family in Broomfield

Hi everyone,

My husband and I live in Broomfield, and we are expecting our first baby. We are looking for a pediatrician for the baby, and a family doctor for the whole family.

We prefer doctors who are professional, thorough and proactive, not too laid back. It is also important that they are open to giving specialist referrals when needed.

Who do you like and recommend? It would help if they take new patients. Thank you!
