Lovely sunset photo I took at E 180th Street
I don’t take the 2 or 5 back home often but I’m glad I did this time. A lovely sunset with the Manhattan skyline in the distance. I had no idea you could see the World Trade Center AND Chrysler Building from out here

Angel Carrasco, 31, is scheduled for arraignment at Bronx Supreme Court today after allegedly pushing 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez and their 8-month-old baby off a 15th-floor balcony in the Bronx. He was held at Jacobi Hospital Psych Ward the last week after he displayed some odd and wacky behavior

NYPL Baychester
My pictures definitely will not do the library justice, as I had to leave out several sections of seating and shelving to protect patron anonymity.
But do come on down!

Tell WNYC and Gothamist how they should cover immigration: Free Zoom forum Oct 21
Full disclosure: I’m a Bronx resident on New York Public Radio’s Community Advisory Board, a volunteer group that gives listener feedback to WNYC, WQXR and Gothamist. One of my goals on the board is making sure Bronx voices are part of that feedback.
Last week’s ICE shooting in Marble Hill, with a five-year-old in the back seat, has a lot of us thinking about how immigration stories in our neighborhoods get told. We’re holding a public forum on immigration coverage next Wednesday, Oct 21 at 6:30pm over Zoom. What stories are they missing? What do they get wrong about immigrant communities in the Bronx? Feedback goes to station leadership.

love bronx and my neighborhood
grateful! I love trees and my neighborhood is very green. I can literally walk at 1 am because I feel safer here than any other neighborhood because I know my neighborhood got my back. My first ever apartment is here.

Does anyone know if there’s healthy food markets?
Hi all! I hope all is well. Does anyone know if there’s a healthy food market anywhere in the Bronx with somewhat organic / low calorie food / snacks? Preferably by Arthur Ave, willing to try Pelham parkway / morris park as well. I can’t find anything!! I would love to do food shopping while meal prepping

Seeking advice...Debating a condo purchase (Bronx vs Hudson county/NJ)
My wife and I are both renters in the east Bronx, interested in buying a 3 bed condo as our first (forever?) home, there's none in our area unfortunately, just expensive houses. But we found two elsewhere that we are torn between.
We both work union jobs (nurse and secretary) in a South Bronx hospital and plan to stay until we're vested in our pensions.
Both condos have plenty of accessible transit nearby and are almost a wash financially when it comes to the monthly payment.
Condo #1... Galaxy towers in Hudson county NJ (west New York) overlooking Manhattan. $4650 monthly payment (mortgage, interest, HOA/utilities, taxes, etc).
Pros: highrise style condo with amenities and utilities all bundled into the HOA. Unit is renovated and ready. Doorman, two pools, elevator, laundry, gym, spa. Living in NJ but working in Bronx gives us a little extra raise (no city tax). Plenty of transit outside the building.
Cons: commute is 80-90 min to job in South Bronx. Hopefully we can Eventually pivot to working in Manhattan or NJ for a shorter commute. Parking space is $120/month. HOA is high ($2000) but includes all utilities and amenities. Its a 2 bedroom but we have to spend between 2k-4k upfront to turn the dining room into a third bedroom (for our oldest daughter).
Condo #2... Shorehaven condos in the Bronx (near clason point area). Also on waterfront, overlooking Manhattan and LaGuardia. $4200 monthly payment (mortgage, interest, taxes, HOA), utilities separate.
Pros: commute is 45-50 min. gated townhome style community with pool, gym, parks, laundry, walking paths. Nyc ferry right nearby for a nice cruise into Manhattan (instead of boring subway). Unit is renovated and ready. This is a 3 bedroom, so no need to put up a wall/door to make another room like the galaxy unit. Bruckner shopping area nearby. HOA is $600, includes 1 assigned parking space.
Cons: HOA doesn't include utilities but includes amenities, parking, maintenance, etc. not sure how the Public middle/high schools are nearby.

Lost Backpack
I know this is a long shot, but I wanted to try anyway. My little brother lost his white Champion backpack. It has a blue Soccer Sweatshirt (the same one in the image) inside. It was lost at Prospect Ave & Westchester Ave, at the bus stop for the Bx17 towards Fordham Plaza on October 1st around 4-5 PM. An award can be arranged if anyone who sees this happens to have it.

Why are there no public trash cans in the Bronx?
I moved to the South Bronx in February from Washington Heights and I see that there are no public trash cans anywhere in the Bronx! Why?!! This is ridiculous

Anyone know of any active art clubs in the Bronx?
I’ve been wanting to join one that’s more local to me. One where I could go to either draw, talk about art, or one that does museum visits or gets together to do figure drawing. One that is ideally friendly to both digital and traditional art.

22-year-old German chasing a childhood dream of living in NYC 🇩🇪🗽
Hey New Yorkers!
I'm Finn, 22, from a small town near Frankfurt, Germany. We sometimes call Frankfurt "Mainhattan" because of its skyline, so I guess I've already had a little practice with skyscrapers. Just on a much smaller scale. 😄
I've never been to the US, but I've always been fascinated by the people, their openness, the music, fashion, and culture. And New York has always been my dream.
There's something almost paradoxical about it. You're surrounded by so many people, yet nobody really cares what you're doing. Everyone is living their own life, following their own path. There's a certain kind of freedom in that which I've always found fascinating.
I'm not dreaming of some glamorous lifestyle. Just taking the subway to work, exploring the city afterward, meeting people, and experiencing everyday life would mean the world to me.
A little about me: I've completed a three-year vocational apprenticeship in metal fabrication, spent another year training as an industrial mechanic, and also worked in administration and logistics.
I'm hoping to spend 6–12 months legally living and working in or around NYC. I'm currently exploring J-1 Intern/Trainee programs for technical fields like manufacturing or quality control, as well as H-2B seasonal jobs.
So I figured I'd take a chance and ask the people who actually live here:
Does anyone know a company or business owner who might consider hosting an international technical trainee, or someone familiar with these visa programs?
I'm not looking for a handout. I'm willing to work hard and do everything the right way. Sometimes all it takes is one connection.
This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and now that I'm 22, I really want to give it a shot rather than spend the next few years wondering what could have been.
Thanks for reading, New York!
Finn 🇩🇪🇺🇸

A father who had just picked up his son from school confronted two men who allegedly tried to take his belongings in The Bronx, New York.
The incident occurred on Thursday, Oct. 8, at about 2:30 p.m. near East 172nd Street and Mount Eden, according to dispatcher Johandry Jimenez.
According to the report, the two individuals were traveling on a motorcycle, dressed in black and with their faces covered. When they tried to strip the father of his valuables, he resisted and managed to hold one of the suspects, preventing him from escaping.
Meanwhile, the driver of the motorcycle managed to leave the place. Several people who witnessed what happened came to the aid of the father and collaborated to keep the individual detained until the arrival of the police.
