Playing on something new i bought. The Legion Go S Steam. Absolutely perfect for a busy dad.

I played BS 1 and 2 back in the day on PS1. But threw absolutely everything away over the years thinking it was 'old' ... Its fair to say I've spent a few quid these days buying it all back šŸ˜€

How did you discover Broken Sword?

Always like hearing the origin story of your obsession.

Mine was when I got my PS1 around 6-7 years old. Argos had a deal where you got two games with it so went for Disney’s Hercules (I was a big Hercules head) and Broken Sword 2 - the Argos catalogue didn’t even have a picture of the cover art!

The obsession was born. I played it with my Mam back then, she used to ring that power line or whatever it was called if we got too stuck šŸ˜‚

I have played this back on the 3ds and really enjoyed it. I also did play Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse while back and really enjoyed it as well.

The remake of the 1st game looks so good and I'm looking forward to play it. Also the upcoming 2nd remake in the series The Smoking Mirror Reforged coming out next year looks really good and looking forward to play that.

I really like the Broken Sword games they have a interesting and engaging story, love the humour especially from our main character George Stobbart with his funny witty jokes and sense of humour. I like Nico she is pretty cool and a great partner detective with George and in the Smoking Mirror it looks like they are working more together in their new location looks like somewhere in South America, haven't played the 2nd game so I'm looking forward to play it.

The Broken Sword games are like my cosy games that feels relaxing to play when you just don't want things to be serious and just relax.

After finally owning the PS1 copy, I went back for 100% on Reforged. Everyone's Buzzing nearly broke me.

A few weeks ago I shared the story of finally getting the PS1 copy of Shadow of the Templars, the game a friend's dad walked into the room with thirty years ago. Thank you all for the response, it meant a lot.

That post sent me straight back into Reforged with one goal: all 26 achievements. It took a week, and today the last one popped.

If anyone is hunting, these were the ones that took real effort (Steam unlock rates in brackets):

Repeat Offender (4.7%): at the Baphomet site, get Nico to distract the painter three times before you dip the key in his paint.

Everyone's Buzzing (6.5%): once you get the hand buzzer at the costume shop, select it in conversation with everyone you meet. You don't need to actually zap them. Leave the football fan on the Scotland train for last.

Shared History (7.7%): on the train, talk to the old lady about everything in your inventory before trying to leave the compartment.

Fish Food (16.5%): talk to Rosso right after the museum break-in, before heading to Montfaucon.

Chapter select unlocks after your first completion, so you don't need to restart from scratch.

Thirty years with this game and it still had a few surprises left. Did any of you go for 100%? Which one took you the longest?

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is turning 30 on Wednesday (original European release date)!

To celebrate, I put together a special anniversary video featuring five developers who worked on the original games and Broken Sword: Reforged, who kindly shared a few of their memories and easter eggs of the series across three decades. Thanks to them all for taking the time to send things across!

Hope you enjoy and do post your memories of the game / series too!

I recently put this in my Mam’s card for birthday. I first played Broken Sword with her when I got BS2 with my PlayStation when I was 6-7 years old.

She put the ā€œParis in the fallā€ quote in her card she gave me on my wedding day.

Does anyone else do anything like this or have a special connection because of the game?

Does anyone else remember being able to use the hand buzzer on the Club Alamut bartender in the original Broken Sword 1?

I’m playing through Shadow of the Templars: Reforged at the moment and I’ve just reached Marib.

I’ve played the original game loads of times over the years, and I have a really strong memory of being able to use the hand buzzer on the tongueless bartender/manager in Club Alamut and actually shocking him.

I tried doing it in Reforged, but George just gives the response about there being no point trying to talk to him, and nothing happens.

Am I completely misremembering this, or could you actually use the buzzer on him in the original 1996 version (or possibly one of the later ports)?

It’s one of those really specific childhood gaming memories that I can practically picture happening, so now I really want to know whether I’ve invented it šŸ˜‚

Bonus points if anyone still has an original version installed and can test it!

I'd bet this game won't come out until February 2027

Well we're passed the 2 year anniversary of Broken Sword Reforged and still don't have a release date for Smoking Mirror Reforged, in spite of the Kickstarter being done, the game seems finished as far as I can tell.

I'd bet there's just too many games being released right now, it just piles on like a pizza buffet.

And then there's GTA VI.

A niche Kickstarter nostalgia point-and-click game will have absolutely no chance in the noise we're having right now.

My bet is that Smoking Mirror Reforged won't come out until the initial rush of GTA VI have died out in early 2027.

What do you think?

Ultimate Collector's Bundle of Broken Sword

Hi, has anyone ever seen one out there in the wild? The art book looks mighty interesting and the vinyl looks amazing, too. Propably costs a gazzillion bucks, right?

Sadly, I have seemed to have missed the Kickstarter for Smoking Mirror, too. Was there a Ultimate collector's Bundle available as well? Kicking myself for having missed it.

Edit: Just found a link for the Smoking Mirror Kickstarter and saw what the Ultimate collector's bundle offered. Almost passing out. So mad right now for missing it.

Thirty years later, the PS1 copy finally found me

I wanted to share this here rather than anywhere else, because this is the place where it actually means something.

Broken Sword came into my life through the father of a close childhood friend, who one day walked into the room with the box in his hands. I was a kid and I had no idea what I was looking at, but I've been following George and Nico ever since. I've replayed The Shadow of the Templars across pretty much every version that has come out, and it's still the game I measure other adventures against.

The PlayStation release was the one gap in all of that. I never owned it, never even held a copy. Last week that changed: an Italian PAL copy, complete with manual and disc (SCES-00162, 1996, published by SCEE).

Holding it feels like closing a loop that started when I was too young to know what a point-and-click even was. Thank you to everyone at Revolution for making something that stuck with someone for this long.

Playing Broken Sword as a book club

Hi, Broken Sword community!

A few friends and I are about to play Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars for the first time. As we understand it, the game progresses linearly, so we'd like to take a kind of book club-style approach to playing the game. The idea is that we each play a part of the game on our own, then get together and talk about it before moving on to the next.

We'd like to divide the game into three parts that are roughly equal in size. Would anyone here be able to give us some spoiler-free cues for where we should pause? Something like "when you reach town X" or "when you meet a person called X for the first time" or anything along those lines.
