Gear UK Golf Deals

So this is the last “update” I’ll be doing here. As some would’ve seen in previous posts, I always wanted the “deals” system in here to be something better than simply spamming links.

So I’m at what I’d call V1.0 of the deals site and I’m semi satisfied with its current state. Below is what we have.

  • Around 40,000 different product listings aggregated into 800-1000 deals of all categories. With minimum discount thresholds set across different categories. (This number will fluctuate as time goes on)

  • Deduplication and lowest price bias, I have set “similarity” thresholds on product titles, meaning if the site detects products that are similar or identical, it will only present the lowest price listing.

  • Price movement tracking, multiple times a day, a price “baseline” is taken and compares to it previous prices meaning you will see a price movement badge up or down and the amount. This is to cut through the “flash sale” noise where a site has just renamed a sale they’ve had all year so you can actually see if a price has moved. And/or been on sale for a while.

  • Clubs clearly marked LH/RH, Men’s/Ladies as well as when the club is configurable, ie shafts, lofts etc. some suppliers don’t give this data at all so it’s taken some serious work finding this in the background but it’s pretty reliable now.

  • Clothing, this part is tough, but for the most part, clothing is marked where there’s size options available, and isn’t when there’s only a single size available. I’d love to have it actually show what sizes are available but it’s really difficult to reliably extract. Will work some more on this.

  • shoes, same as above.

  • Site refreshes twice a day. Once at 9am, once at 5pm. This is to ensure for the most part, dead links vanish, and out of stock items vanish in good time. Things WILL slip through unfortunately if the suppliers themselves don’t update their data.

-no cookies, no mailing lists or any of that crap. Nor will there ever be.

So that’s it really, there’s no need to keep posting in here as you can just refer to the site. I’ll keep it pinned for future browsing but that’s all it needs.

As always if you have feedback, you can reply here or there is an admin email on the site. Things WILL fall over at some point, and weird products will show up in categories whilst I perfect the categorisation logic but it’s 99% there right now.

Title: Anyone else addicted to golf ball hunting?

Been seeing some ridiculous golf ball hauls on reddit lately and didn't realise how many people actually go out specifically hunting for lost balls!

Curious what everyone does with their finds?

Do you keep the premium ones to play with, sell them, or just end up with hundreds sitting in the garage?

Also, does anyone actually keep track of how many they've found and what they're worth?

Would love to hear what everyone's biggest haul has been!

Titleist fitting at Woburn

Has anyone had a driver fitting at the Titleist centre at Woburn? If so, how did it compare to a typical fitting?

Hubby is dropping hints that I should start dropping hints about what I want for the holiday that will remain nameless until December (because I can’t bear to mention it this early).

I’d like a fitted driver now that my swing is in a better place and I have a pretty consistent shot shape and miss. I have someone I go to for fittings usually who I trust and will do an excellent, brand agnostic fit, but I do love a Titleist club and would be somewhat fascinated by seeing their setup and having the full works available. I’m wondering if it’s worth the extra hour of travel time and £100-odd over my normal fitter.

Don't you just hate this?

I played really well today through 18 holes but I lost atleast 6 balls and THEY ALL LANDED ON THE FAIRWAY! I mean technically I should be pleased and I am slightly but its so annoying when that happens. The fairway could have shorter grass tbh, thats not a problem, but when there is so many leaves it turns out golf balls vanish. Was all good until I hit the drives of my life and was itching to know the distance and had to concede the hole because I spent so much time looking for it.

r/BritGolfSimulator has arrived

Following my post, not wanting to flood this subreddit with chatter about mats, screens and PC builds, I created r/BritGolfSimulator (with the approval of u/Mattwildman5 I hasten to add!)

Yes, OK, I'm going to have a LOT of questions in the next few weeks/months, but hopefully this can help others out too as while r/Golfsimulator is very useful, for all your shopping needs it's very US centric.

If you were one of the people who responded to my post, maybe pop along and say hi and see who you could help out...or ask all the questions!

Be gentle with me...I'm still figuring out how to drive this thing :-)

New golfer

Hey everyone, im brand new to the game only took it up a couple of weeks ago and have been playing at my local 9 hole course. Absolutely loving it despite being absolutely rotten at it 😂. I have bought some second hand clubs and a few other bits like balls and tees etc. I've been invited to play 18 holes with some friends from work, theyre also new to it but been in it a bit more than me. The thing is I think I now need to go buy shoes and golf clobber because it's a proper course and the truth is im pretty skint lol im just wondering what the cheapest way to get some stuff is as this hobby just seems to keep costing me money haha. Any advice would be great. Thank you

Well…I’ve actually gone and ordered my dream

After some fun 'n' games with planning permission, I've finally pulled the trigger on the build of garden 'cabin' to host a simulator. My Wife is going to use it for her Archery practice and we'll use it as a home cinema too...and I might have to stick my PS5 and F1 wheel in there too ;-)

Now I need to pick all the actual simulator bits to go inside the thing, and good grief PC capable of supporting the simulator software at 4K are stupidly expensive!

Build is due to start late November.

If I can’t get down to a single figure handicap next year I’m going to cry :-/

Golf courses accessible by train near West Hampstead

Hi all,

I’m trying to get back into golf by joining a golf club. A tale as old as time itself whereby I played lots growing up but very little the last couple of years.

I’m based around West Hampstead, and am hoping to find a course I can become a member of now, play in winter (albeit likely some boggy conditions), utilise good practice facilities, and not break the bank - ideally membership £2k or less.

The commute is the problem as I’ve no car. Northwood reads very well and may be credible. Sandy Lodge also but is quite pricey. I’d greatly appreciate all views and opinions!

Thanks you!

Had the round of my life today!

Don't judge me too harshly as it is not the longest of courses but has its difficulties around the greens and is an inland links. (Whalebone golf club)

I started playing golf in June 2024 having never picked up a club took up the game off the back of recommendations from a friend at work as I had not long stopped playing football and was looking for something to do again of a weekend. Best decision I have made in years and just wanted to show off my score today after many hours of pain and practice!😁😅

Edit: Woke up this morning to find I've been cut to 9.2 from 11.4

Playing Through Swing Changes

I'm a relative beginner. Been with my coach since the end of July. He's somewhat taken my swing to pieces and we are currently in the process of putting Humpty Dumpty back together again.

It is tough work.

Sometimes a swing change can be utterly confusing, and I'm seeing him again for brief reminder or getting a fair amount of help via WhatsApp, guiding me as to what I'm meant to do.

Sometimes a swing change results in significant change to strike location, and not in a good way, as I'm not the finished article. This can result in a lot of lost balls!

Sometimes a swing change can just mean very very few balls that I hit, feel good. Instead strike is a mixed bag, as I learn and groove the new feelings.

My god! It can be a slog. And yes, I'm doing this voluntarily. In fact, I'm paying for the privilege.

I must say, my coach is a good guy and a great coach. He is always on hand, which by itself singles him out among others.

Sometimes it does however feel like information overload.

The main danger is thag I give up on the change and just revert to what I was doing before. HOWEVER, sometimes I actually cannot revert, as the new swing change is partially ingrained and I'm unable to find what I was doing before! So I end up stuck, not the finished article, norbbeubg able to revert to the last working version. I'm just whacking balls knowing that it's more likely than not going into the rough.

The mental side of the game of course comes in. As you've got to be strong enough to still enjoy it, despite knowing before the round I'm likely to be more in the trees than the fairway, and enduring that frustration and sticking with the plan.

That's pretty tough as well!

Unfortunately, the light at the end of the tunnel is quite feint, as I've no idea how long this tunnel is, and nothing feels "normal" yet and I'm still very much on the journey.

This makes golf weekends with mates especially difficult!

Should I have done this all in the off-season? Maybe, but will this hopefully mean I'm "ready" (whatever that means!) come Spring.

There's not much point to this other than to hear from others, some of whom I hope went on a similar journey, and to hopefully get some inspiration/hope.

I do hope I can edit this post in a few months time positively!

13th hole at The Cambridgeshire Golf Club.

Par 3. 191yrds to the pin from the yellow tees. Slightly downwind and slightly downhill…lovely gentle draw with a 7-iron over the Barkway bunker guarding the right side of the green. Pitched, ran up, fed across the green right to left, and stopped just short. Oh well!

A bright spot in an otherwise pretty terrible round. 23 points stableford #facepalm

I’m clearly also using the official golf balls of r/BritGolf ;-)

This was not a good position to hit from!

EDIT! Some cracking choices coming out here. I love hearing how other golfers think. I've even got a few clubs to try I would never normally use.

Golf ball collection

I’m well on my way to a fair collection of golf balls from around GB & I, of courses that I’ve played. However I have a few missing, see below. If anybody can help me get some of the balls I’m missing it would be appreciated.

Obviously I’ll refund cost of ball/postage and happy to add cost of a beer as well. I’ll need two of any ball if possible (mate is doing the same)

Donegal
County Louth
County Sligo
Mount Juliet
Ballybunion
Tralee
Lahinch
Dooks
Tenby
Silloth on Solway
Woodhall Spa
West Sussex
Remedy Oak
Broadstone
St Mellion
Druids Glen

Hoping this is within community rules. Message me if you think you can help.

Thanks.

What’s your pattern during a round?

So I’ve realised I have a really distinct pattern of play during a round. It’s pretty much the same every game.

I start well and usually par or birdie the first, then second through to sixth I play like absolute shit with probably 2 bogeys, 2 doubles and even popping a triple in there. Then from seven onwards I level out and shoot either par or bogey.

It doesn’t matter what course I’m playing or how hard the holes are. It’s always the same.

Anyone else similar, or have any pattern at all?

Pace of play

New to golf this year. Play with a bunch of seniors, usually 12 ish of us and go off first thing in groups of three. 10 minute pause at the halfway house for a coffee. Handicaps range from 10 to 30 (i’m in the middle).

We typically take 4 hrs plus 10 mins.

Only asking as I was chatting with another member who commented “ooh thats a slow group” and the following day overheard him saying to another member ”slow out there today” (he would have been following us!)

For reference Playing alone - i take 3hrs.

Update: Thanks. I got what I needed from this aka we are a bit slow! I would comment that usually the last group in are not delaying anyone - so this particular scenario / midweek / early means theres no-one teeing off after are group for enough time to catch up bit nevertheless still slow. Be interesting to play other groups to see if its me or just the group!

Visiting Scotland April/May 27 for a golf roadtrip. Would love to play a round with you at your home club (pints on us!)

Hi all! I'm visiting Scotland next spring for a mostly-golf trip and would love to meet some locals along the way. I'll initially be based in Fife for a week, starting April 19th 2027, with my family.

Following that, my friend (28 M) and I (30 M) will be renting a car and driving around Scotland for about two weeks (roughly April 26 to May 10). Ideally playing a round of golf 2 out of every 3ish days. We're very flexible. The current rough plan is to drive up to the northern highlands for a week and then down the west coast for another week, ending around the Kintyre peninsula/Isle of Arran.

If you're down to meet two chill guys from the US (Seattle) we'd love to play your home club and take you out for a pint or two after! I'm not sure how member/guest fees work in Scotland, but we will of course pay for our own rounds + any fees you get charged for guests.

We're 12-15 handicaps that play quickly and always respect the course. If you're a bit tepid about meeting two strangers, we totally understand and would settle for a course recommendation!

(Random list of potential courses being considered so far: Kinghorn, Panmure, Gullane 2, Elie, Cullen, Brora, Covesea, Fortrose, Kingussie, Barassie, Machrihanish, Corrie, Dunaverty. I left out the obvious ones like Dornoch and Carnoustie, although we will try to fit 2 of those in to stay within budget.)

Course recommendations - Herts/N London

TLDR; recommendations for golf course nearish to Tring. Up to £100 p/p, midweek

Visiting a friend who lives in Tring (Hertfordshire). Looking for recommendations on a decent course to play somewhat nearby. North London would work too. Not the best golfers (I’m mid-20’s handicap and he’s definitely worse than that), so we’ll probably head out after lunch time on a weekday so it’s less busy and we aren’t under pressure / slowing people down. When we’ve played before we’ve gone for pretty bottom of the barrel courses, but thought we’d try somewhere a bit nicer this time. Anything up to £100 p/p is probably our limit, but I wonder if courses at the top end of that wouldn’t be too welcoming of a couple of bad golfers

Any advice would be great

Range Balls

Finally feel like my swing is consistent enough to get down to a range and dial in distances. Keep hearing range balls won’t go as far though, does anyone know what difference they get range vs their game ball?

Kent golf society / playing partners

Hello.

I've just picked up golf again after a 25 year hiatus. I'm 41, been playing for around 4 months on the course, and 18B thinks I'm a handicap of 28-32 - not great, but slowly improving.

In just wondering if there are any gold societies in Kent? Back home, Scotland, there are numerous regional golf societies by profession - medics golf, particularly (parents doctors, I'm a doctor)- but I haven't caught a whiff of this outside of military vets (which have a strong presence in my club).

Does anyone know of county societies? Doesn't have to be by profession.

Equally, I'd be happy just to get in touch with local golfers. If someone could sign off my last 9 holes to get a formal handicap, that would be swell. I like golfing alone, but would like the social aspect as well.

I'm a member at The Ridge, outside Maidstone. Happy to guest or travel.

Golf in north wales

I will have a spare day in early Nov. Any recommendation for golf in north wales? Ideally somewhere between Liverpool and Holyhead…
