Hopefully he matches up well against LAs core of lefties - Freeman, Muncie, Ohtani. I'll be happy if he can go 5 innings giving up only 1-2 runs. He pitched well in LA in August.
On the flipside, the Brewers need to implement the same strategy against Snell as they did Yamamoto. Be patient, force him to throw strikes, grind out at bats, take the balls, foul stuff off.

Amen. On one hand, Snell is Snell and you sleep on him at your own peril.
On the other hand, Snell is vulnerable. He missed most of the season for surgery and came back with a vengeance, but those were all against subpar teams, he hasn't pitched more than 4 innings in a game in the last month - so there's not much reason to believe he'll go much distance in this game either (especially if the Brewers protect the plate as well as they usually do).
I expect we'll get to their bullpen early again, which is a double-win (especially with 3 games in 3 days). Puts us in a good position to take game 3, and puts pressure on Glasnow to pitch deep in game 4.

100% Hopefully the Brewers have a similar game against him as the Braves did. 5 walks would be juicy.

He’s going to be coming out throwing strikes, he knows we’re looking to make pitchers throw strikes, he knows our disciplined mentality at the plate, win each battle. After Atlanta, I think he’s looking to lock in and get redemption, he’ll be throwing strikes.

Man... I think you gotta start Vaughn. He's patient at bat and he eats lefties for breakfast. But where? Murph just said recently he doesn't feel good about sitting Yeli at all ("he's gotta be out there")...and you don't bench Bauers after that epic 12-pitch walk. Good problem to have, I guess, but damn... I think you have to start Vaughn at 1B or DH and just wager he's going to play a big part in running Snell out of the game. Then you PH Bauers/Yeli as soon as Vaughn is due to face a RHP. Am I crazy?

Gary also has great numbers against Snell, including 5 homers, if I remember correctly.
2
u/aDarkDarkCrypt 13h ago
Yes - I saw that. Im guessing the mostly comes from when Gary was on the Yankees and Snell the Rays. But who does he replace? You cant bench Contreras and Vaughn has been crushing lefties.
1
u/aDarkDarkCrypt 15h ago
100% agree. This was the first person I thought they should start to platoon against Snell, and then keep Yeli available for match ups.
But I would probably go Bauers 1B and Vaughn DH.
I think another dilemma is - do you start lefty Hamilton or Ortiz at 3rd? Ortiz has been lost at the plate all post season, and Hamilton wreaked havoc on the bases against LA. He was perfect as the 9 hole hitter. Hes the guy you want on with Churio, Turang and Contreras coming up.

u/timbenj77 14h ago
Hamilton was a nice surprise lately, but Ortiz was hot until he was inexplicably warming the bench. A week ago I would have said "you gotta put Ortiz in there whenever you can - he's swinging a big bat and he's an elite defender" (significantly better than Hamilton on 3B). But then he chickened TF out of an relatively easy DP throw vs SD and I'm not so sure.

Snell nibbles so much. It won’t shock me if he takes 60 pitches just to get through 3. Like I’ve said before, the pitcher we needed to worry about most was Yamamoto. Snell shouldn’t be too hard to get past if our batters stay patient like they have been.

Expecting gasser to go longer in the game on the road than both Miz and Henderson is probably unrealistic. Starters are getting pulled earlier when ever game matters more
11
u/timbenj77 15h ago
Murph denies it, but it's pretty obvious Henderson was pulled because of his fielding, not because of his pitching. Just a little panic got him. And LAD had no intention of trying to put the ball in play against Miz - their entire plan was to get to the bullpen. I think Gasser is a little more steady-handed.

Gasser can tend to slip up and throw a meatball here and there, I’m expecting some LA HRs today off gasser, at least one
Hopefully he can refrain from walking or giving up hits before inevitable HR balls.

True - I was mostly saying that as my idea of an ideal scenario. He pitched well in the NLDS so I have faith in him.

I think snell knows this based on his pre game interviews, he’s going to come at the brewers throwing a lot of strikes
Snell knows our hitting approach pretty well, and our whole mentality. It will be tough if he’s executing well.

u/aDarkDarkCrypt 14h ago
If thats the case, I say start ambushing him. Snell excels best when people are chasing his pitches.

u/Puzzleheaded_Race294 11h ago
Yep, we must stay disciplined because if we’re disciplined enough at the plate, there’s no way around it as a pitcher

I just noticed an interesting stat line.
Yall remember the Murph mound visit pep talk @Wrigley field? That was on September 1st. He was pulling Gasser from the game, but not before publicly praising how he's kept the team in the game every time.
Gasser's stats in September:
- 27.0 IP
- 1.67 ERA (5 ER on 13 Hits)
- 0.85 WHIP
Opposing batters:
- 0.140 OBA
- 0.238 OBP
- 0.507 OPS
We're gonna win this fucking game. Also, Murph is the dude.

I mean, gas is a volatile way to start a fire, let’s go

u/ChickensOnBikes 16h ago
The LA announcers Monday commented the Dodgers could not put out the fire each inning the Brewers were up to bat. Now we'll bring the gas on both sides of the game! There's about to be a wildfire in LA.
