Mod Post o7 from Eternal President — Making a space game, it’s on Steam now (shameless self-promotion)
Hey Brave,
It’s been a long time since I was rallying newbies in Hek, but I still l think about those times sometimes. A lot of what it taught isn't that I necessarily want to play myself or run a space empire, but to create something new. It's a sort of user-to-dealer character arc where the protagonist decides self-realization means it's time to load up and RV and head into the desert to cook.
So yeah I'm making a game.
TRAPPIST-1 is a hard sci-fi colony strategy game set in the TRAPPIST-1 system, seven rocky worlds around a dim red star 40 light-years away. You’re the first expedition to arrive. Or so you think. It's a factorio-ish experience on hex planets derived from JWST measurements of real exoplanets (or hexoplanets), incorporating orbital mechanics, trade, and kinetic kill vehicles for good measure.
What it is:
- Industry on the ground. Mines, factories, depots and launch sites across hex-mapped planets, linked by road, rail and maglev.
- Hauling in orbit. Every cargo run follows real orbital mechanics. You don’t need to do the math: for each trip you choose efficient, balanced or fast, and you pay in fuel or time.
- No god’s-eye view. You only know what you’ve scanned. Rival expeditions can hide, watch and wait, and so can you. (Yes, it’s basically d-scan paranoia in a star system.)
- No fleet battles. The enemy is the star’s flares, the cold, the distance, and running out of life support. Rivalries are settled with drone swarms, kinetic impactors and countermeasures.
- A different system each playthrough, with varying planets, resources and possibly microbial life.
- Endgame: build an interstellar mission to the next star.
It’s heading to Early Access, with the release date still to be announced. I’m building it solo. I’m not a programmer by trade, and I use AI tools as part of production so you know, bite me. The Steam page has the full disclosure. The design and direction are mine, and I’d rather be upfront about that here than have you find it in the fine print.
What would help most right now: If you like the idea, wishlist it.For a solo dev, wishlists are what make Steam show a game to anyone at all.

If you like the sound of it, I’d love feedback, especially once the Alpha tester program is up. Ask me anything in the comments, and tell me what you’d want from a game like this. Many of you have spent more hours on space logistics than most game designers ever will.
Fly safe, and thanks for keeping the dream alive.
