I don't think anyone's posted links to The Brampton Guardian surveys in the last week. Here's anything posted since October 8:

This election campaign they only attend private events no hosted public community events, no debates, no discussion, no email responses, no accountability to engage about what's happening in our neighbourhoods. If they cannot engage with residents now what makes you think they will care if they get elected.

I was looking into Brampton's property tax increases over the last four years, and the numbers caught my attention.

According to official City of Brampton and Region of Peel tax records, here are the combined residential property tax rates:

Year Residential tax rate

2022 0.980781%

2023 1.039311%

2024 1.106851%

2025 1.200644%

2026 1.253381%

That's an increase of approximately 27.8% from 2022 to 2026.

The calculation is straightforward:

(1.253381 − 0.980781) ÷ 0.980781 × 100 = 27.79%

What does that mean in actual dollars?

For example, take a home with an assessed value of $500,000, assuming its assessment remained unchanged.

- 2022 property tax: approximately $4,904

- 2026 property tax: approximately $6,267

- Difference: about $1,363 more per year.

These are combined tax rates, including the City of Brampton, Region of Peel and education portions. Individual tax bills can vary.

My question is: Are any Brampton mayoral candidates proposing a realistic plan to reverse these tax increases and bring property taxes closer to what residents were paying four years ago?

If so, how would they make it happen without affecting essential city services?

Curious to hear what other Brampton residents think.

Debate organized by the Brampton Board of Trade and Y Media.

Includes Romy Dogra (Regional 2 & 6), Sameer Tandon (Regional 2 & 6), Paul Vicente (Regional 1 & 5), Steven Lee (Regional 1 & 5), Vyas Vedaant (Regional 7 & 8).

His team put a sign sitting on the property line so each neighbour thinks it's the other person's sign.

Hi everybody!

I was curious if there are any good regular open mic spots in Brampton or the wider Peel region that feature poetry readings as well. Also what are your thoughts on these places and what are the environments like in terms of age range, etc. Thanks in advance!

Its my favorite frozen treat, but I don't really see it around that often. Usually whenever I go up to the Landmark theater in Bolton it is always my go to beverage. Wondering if there are any locations that have icee machines in Brampton?

I’m looking for a place to rent and almost every posting I find it says “not suitable for remote work” or “no work from home allowed” what?? If I’m paying rent every month why do landlords care whether I work from home or in office? IM PAYING TO LIVE HERE!! They are now penalizing people for staying at home and working off of a computer??? Are we not allowed to use the utilities we pay for? This is so ridiculous. Sorry just need to vent…

Porch pirates hit my house …

At 12:42 AM on October 9, a woman and what looked like her teenage son came onto our porch in the Madoc area of Brampton and stole our amazon delivery. They showed up with bags, clearly prepared to take whatever they could — this was planned.

If you live in the area, check your cameras from around that time.
If you recognize either of them, please message me.

Talking with Raghav Dhir who is running for city councillor in wards 2 & 6 in Bramptons west end.

hi guys do you think my high risk insurance will go down, i pay around $1600/month and i drove one year with high risk clean and missed no payments. plss lmk!

Ayanna Kahlon and I talk about campaigning, dirty politics, housing solutions and crime.

experienced a hit and run while stopped at a red light. They side swiped me and ran the advanced turn. happened so fast I didn’t get a license plate. I dont have a dash cam and police informed me they dont have cameras at that intersection. Wondering if anyone was in the area on October 3rd between 12:45-12:50 and maybe has footage of it they’d be willing to share

Your vote is private but your opinion doesn't have to be. One vote counts but a conversation can move ten. Etc etc I can keep going.

Allow me to get this out of the way: Yes I'm a candidate for regional councillor trying to unseat an entrenched incumbent. Yes I'm biased.

But seriously somewhere along the way, talking about our election preference became taboo. I get it. But there's a massive problem. Word of mouth used to be a thing that helped pass the message, now no one talks and so no word of mouth.

When nobody talks, people walk into the polling station, see a list of names they don't recognize, and pick the one they've heard before. That's name recognition doing the job. And it's a big reason the incumbents keep winning.

I'm glad you're supporting new faces. Your one vote absolutely matters. But one vote doesn't win anything on its own. A majority does. And majorities are built through conversations, not the hope that all your friends, family and neighbors are spending effort into making informed choices.

So here's what I'm asking. You don't have to tell anyone who you're voting for. That's your business. But:

- If you read a candidate's platform, watched the rare debate, or had someone knock on your door, go tell people about it.

- Ask your friends and neighbours what they know. You'll be surprised how many people haven't looked past the incumbent. I know I'm shocking a lot of people while door knocking just by the fact that another candidate exists.

- Send people the City's candidate list and the "Where Do I Vote" page. Make it easy.

Hell I'll help you out:

Be the change you want to see in the world. Please and thanks everyone!

My family uses City swimming and skating programs quite a bit, and I always found it frustrating having to search across different pages to find drop-in schedules.

I recently put together a simple tool that pulls together local drop-in schedules in one place because I was already checking them regularly for my own family.

https://dropinnow.ca/brampton

We've been using it ourselves, and I thought some other Brampton families might find it useful too.

Have a good day!

Thanks :)

I'd love to know what this + the personal delivery cost the tax payers. Nice quality paper too! Big $$$! Didn't even print double-sided.

It says it's only for downtown Brampton residents. It's about his push for involuntary addiction treatment.

Looking for a place to donate some old toys, trying to avoid thrift shops. I don’t like to use them because they’ve raised their prices too high and it doesn’t feel like helping anyone.

I had just gotten home from work today and taken a shower when I looked outside to double check that I had actually taken the garbage out 😅. That’s when I noticed somebody going through my bin, looking for something.

This is honestly pretty unsettling, and I’m wondering if I should report it or just leave it alone. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Just helping spread awareness of the other candidates- no endorsement express or implied

Hi Brampton! I’m a UofT student working with a team on a course project about how GTA families find homes.

We’d appreciate perspectives from people searching or planning to buy in Brampton, people who have bought a home here, and licensed agents working in the area.

The questionnaire covers home-search priorities, family decision-making, and traditions such as Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui. We welcome responses whether your household follows these traditions or doesn’t consider them.

It takes about 10–15 minutes for buyers/homeowners and 7–10 minutes for agents. No name is requested, and responses are used only for our CSC454 course project and reported in summary form.

Hello everyone, I was provided false information by a realtor and really appreciate if someone knows a good lawyer in GTA.
I have already informed RECO and they found him guilty with request to do some course which I am not satisfied with.
I’ll appreciate if you guys have any suggestions.
