New layout is objectively worse

Post image

New layout way more busy and shifts your focal point every time you hit play past 6 more in game shop advertisements.

I will be holding onto the old one as long as possible.

What kind of psycho full screens the blizzard app?

5

u/silk38 3d ago

🤭 Right?! 🤣 Your comment made my day.

-3

u/Baardmeester 2d ago

So you always have the buttons at the same spot. Why do you small window psycho's window screens? At least snap it to half of the screen like a sane person.

1

u/tr0tsky 1d ago

right click the taskbar item and choose the game you want?

1

u/Baardmeester 1d ago

Thats 3 clicks. System tray -> Right click -> Left click.

Desktop shortcut -> Left click play in the useless launcher is only 2.

1

u/tr0tsky 17h ago

by that logic why not just make a shortcut for the game you want to start?

1

u/Baardmeester 16h ago

A shortcut opens the launcher.

1

u/tr0tsky 15h ago

Not for me. I guess it depends on what you shortcutted?

1

u/Furian_FTH 1h ago

Nice save

1

u/SnooBunnies9694 2d ago

??? The buttons are always in the same spot anyways. It’s not like it randomly changes sizes lmao.

1

u/Baardmeester 2d ago

Lots of these windowed programs do or move places. So over the years it has just became a habit to run them full screen of snap them to one half of the screen to stop them fucking around.

1

u/F-Lambda 2d ago

It does randomly move places, though.

i’ll be real, i like the new one better. Primary button for your WoW is actually front and center where it should be and not where it’s trained to be.

secondly having the dropdown to figure out what version of wow is the right one to a new person using BNET is frustrating as fuck to explain to a person new to the game. It makes sense why they are doing this at the same time as WoW Forever launch.

Also I don’t even see most the ads down there and it’s easier to read news after the main action rather than before. I feel like this is one of those cases where the users have been trained and just hate change.

4

u/hadokenzero 3d ago

That second point is why I really like this change. It makes the multiple versions much easier to understand and distinguish for new players.

1

u/F-Lambda 2d ago

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, it's currently half assed, showing only 3 out of the 5 game versions.

It's also different from all other games, which is weird if you also play anything other than wow.

1

u/oswaldovzki 3d ago

I am with you for the same reasons

21

u/Fearless_Kick8802 3d ago edited 3d ago

You can collapse the sections for each version of the game bringing the total adds shown to ZERO. https://imgur.com/a/98Wffic

You don't have to like it, that's subjective (unlike what the title suggests) but cherry picking the worst scenario isn't helping.

3

u/DCaps 2d ago

It's not cherry picking, the default configuration is what was shown. This is what people will see by default. Also, the "view less" collapse does not save between sessions. If anything, your suggestion is cherry picking.

1

u/F-Lambda 2d ago

It also doesn't even show all versions of the game, which is weird. You should be able to toggle additional/fewer panels to cover all of the versions you play: Retail, MoP Classic, TBC Classic Anniversary, Classic Era, and Forever.

Right now, MoP Classic, TBC Classic, and Classic Era all share a single panel.

1

u/deterdetdeterja 18h ago

100%, i had no idea it could collapse.

I mean I see it now, it says "View less" in small text", but I wouldn't have noticed if not for that post.

2

u/Dreamin- 3d ago

Idk if it's cherry picking, I had no idea you could get rid of the add stuff either and just thought the design sucked.

1

u/USBombs83 3d ago

I like that version much better than the original version but it should remember that I have minimized the ads and leave it that way. Also the list should have all my blizz games on it. No need for the tabs with that nice layout. Keep the ones I don't play at the bottom of the ones I do.

1

u/Fearless_Kick8802 3d ago

Agreed, I've given that exact feedback too

1

u/Sennkoh 3d ago

Came here to say the same thing... can't imagine how ppl complain but can't even find the "View Less" button first...
And even without the View less button... click anywhere on the top part between the logo and the play button and the Stuff below is going away...
And damn, just click the "Take a Tour" button right next to "Try the New layout" AND IT STATES THAT YOU CAN CLICK VIEW LESS TO SEE LESS OF THE CLUSTER!

-1

u/No-Breakfast3662 3d ago

If that is possible then I am okay. As long as it saves and doesn’t make me see em again. I’m just so tired of everything I love her squeezed for every dollar it can be.

2

u/Zarbadob 3d ago

I love her

same king

0

u/Atempestofwords 3d ago

It's right there, under the World of Warcraft Midnight logo.

Here is an image i posted earlier today, you can have nothing but the game icons if you want.
The new layout is fine.

1

u/F-Lambda 2d ago

It doesn't save, though, so it doesn't fulfill what they said.

-4

u/Demorielmrn 3d ago

It is still ugly though!

0

u/Buuhhu 3d ago

Okay but does it remember that you collapsed them all so it looks like that? I don't think it does but I might be wrong cause I didn't stick around long on the new layout cause I also didn't like it.

You're so brave.

4

u/badschemeprize 3d ago

"Objectively" lol why is everyone's default mode just whining. "This is different!" Yeah, they changed it. "It's objectively worse!" Then why do I like it...

1

u/DietIllustrious2062 2d ago

My eyes (that are used to a button being in a certain place) are 'naturally' drawn to where the button used to be.

Now the button is right at the top so you are forced to look at all the things below it,

2

u/badschemeprize 2d ago

...I can't tell what your point is? Yes, it's different. The whole idea seems to be "look at these amazing and special versions of WoW that you may not be aware of!" so I get not being into that, but I like it. I always thought the dropdown was clunky as shit, so this is a huge upgrade from "wait this dropdown changed? when?"

10

u/Cloud_N0ne 3d ago

Yeah, the new layout is awful.

I liked having the artwork on the left, now it's just ugly dead space.

I also liked having the carousel of news right at the top, now it's a bunch of tiles in a grid further down.

3

u/Alternative_Gur_3703 3d ago

Is anyone else waiting for the age of minimalism to end and getting back into thematic UI like the old starcraft/warcraft/diablo style? Maybe not D2 text though lol

2

u/4morian5 3d ago

I hate pointless changes for the sake of change

2

u/Hollaboy720 3d ago

Pretty sure there’s a old look button no?

0

u/SingeMoisi 3d ago

Yes but people like to try things they don't like and then whine about it.

2

u/greendingler 3d ago

I hate that we have to be forced to look at some streamer's stupid fucking face everytime the launcher is opened. Why can't it default to view less?

2

u/rapunzel1213 3d ago

I tried new layout then panicked bs I can’t found the Play button. I switched back to the old layout…

3

u/dimmanxak 3d ago

It's made to advertise more, I clearly see their jira task to improve these metrics

2

u/No-Breakfast3662 3d ago

100%, If you want to get to the play button you now cant avoid looking at a purchase offer everytime you boot up

2

u/budrickton 3d ago

I think it's a real stretch to call this predatory.

3

u/CrustedTesticle 3d ago

Typical Blizzard, going in reverse.

1

u/No-Breakfast3662 3d ago

Yep, I miss the orginal launcher. Just a play button with WoW on it.

1

u/js-username 3d ago

click view less and it is quite a bit better actually. I would not have learned that without your post so thanks either way.

1

u/DxnVice 3d ago

I understand trying to show more buyable stuff, my issue is that to finde the play button I had to scroll (I didn't have forever purchased)

1

u/Zewinter 3d ago

There's one good point is it's a bit more compact but they could just give you options to have different layouts with the original one where the news kind of stuff is. The bad part is this seem mostly advertising based, lot more services and forever advertising with the new one. But yea I tried it for 30 sec and reverted.

1

u/memax06 3d ago

I like the old layout. Wondering if the new layout is more targeted to the handheld or mobile-friendly, Saying this as someone who plays on the XBOX Ally X

1

u/notbritishbritishkid 3d ago

I like that if you hover where it says “[x] months left” it tells you exactly when your sub runs out, so there’s definitely some improvement.

Overall I think the community is just when too negative, people need to stop trying to find things to complain about and appreciate the good parts of the industry as a whole

1

u/Timws2 3d ago

Well..at least its just slightly worse and not horribly bad
...so thats something I guess?

1

u/Loon_Cheese 3d ago

Not for making more ads for you, then it perfect!

1

u/Demystify0255 3d ago

I do like the idea of having all versions of WoW on a hub of some sort rather then the drop down and icon clutter on the top bar, but this banner idea i don't think is it.

1

u/Bossmonkey 3d ago

If only there was a button to give feedback.

I know I did, I also hate the new one.

1

u/sunflower_greatsword 3d ago

This looks just like the OSRS launcher now lol

1

u/Mogutaros 3d ago

Te should've made it vertical instead of horizontal. Put the "Play" buttion always in the left. Similar to a bookcase when everything is minimized but the moment you choose one WoW it expands only that one.

1

u/Gaidax 3d ago

Yes, I immediately turned it off, but knowing how these things work, they'd push it through peoples' throats anyway.

1

u/udderlymoovelous 3d ago

I honestly really like the new one, it only sucks if you have it in full screen

1

u/knivkast 3d ago

Hate it, worse in every way. Keeping the old as a toggle is the least they could do.

Make sure to leave feedback after trying it..

1

u/Dobi_tricks 3d ago

I have developed a hardcore ad blocker in my brain over time...no joke I can only tell what kind of stuff is shown if I really force myself to look at it.
If it resembles even closely to an add...I ignore it already.

1

u/Flamingogo117 3d ago

Interesting placement of the play button...

1

u/Ziddy762 3d ago

You no change layout.

1

u/SirDecros 3d ago

I personally like it *shrug*

1

u/TheDuke189 3d ago

It doesn't look as nice, but the play button is just as clickable as it was before so I can live with it

1

u/HahaRuinedItForYou 3d ago

Yeah I hate it too. Hopefully they never force a change but I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

1

u/HoneyLemonCat 3d ago

It’s horrible. I reverted back to the old one right away.

1

u/ParagonRagnar 3d ago

Its always like that. Its been always like this. New layout released everyone hates it. give it a year or two then everyone is used to it and nobody complains. As long as there is a ”Play” button visible its a good layout nothing else matters. If we have to chooce tho Id pick the very original client they had

2

u/vasdrakken 3d ago

Yah but in the new version you have to dig for the play button. I click on wow and have to scroll past versions I don't even have installed. On the old version if I click on wow I get the first option is click play for retail wow.

1

u/Baardmeester 2d ago

These UI changes for the sake of UI designers having a job are just annoying.

1

u/Spazzrella70 3d ago

It’s absolutely horrendous if you have multiple accounts. Choosing an account is terrible in the new layout. It’s like no one tested it.

1

u/TeamAshran 3d ago

i turned it on, saw how bad it looked, turned it off and they asked for feedback.

they either need a redesign or keep the old layout as an option for as long as possible

1

u/gentrumpet 3d ago

Somebody doesn’t know what the word “objectively” means…

1

u/Sinister_Shadow 3d ago

The new one is my preference, I just wish the client would remember that I want show less to be default. I have to contract the adds and stuff every time I close the launcher. Annoying.

1

u/paped2 3d ago

I think the new layout is decent, I just usually only play one version of the game at a time, so I prefer the old version

1

u/FellSorcerer 3d ago

Objectively doesn't mean what you think it means.

1

u/Rocketeer_99 3d ago

Objective to who?

1

u/Wick1889 3d ago

It's so bad haha

1

u/M1oumm1oum 3d ago

You can't pre-download games before getting your sub.

1

u/Negative_Bike_6826 3d ago

So used to having the play button to the left, I struggled to find it…

1

u/I_was_a_sexy_cow 3d ago

I dont think its objectively worse, i think its better. Click show less and its super nice and clean

1

u/Linaori 3d ago

I was hoping to like it, at first it showed me retail, forever, mop beta… but the next boot mop beta was first and retail on the bottom. I don’t even have mop beta installed….

1

u/Spaceless8 3d ago

I use launcher to launch game. If I scroll through new layout, I lose visibility of launch game button. I switched back and gave negative feedback.

1

u/mutirana_baklava 3d ago

In every single way

1

u/Crunchy-Leaf 3d ago

That’s not what the word objectively means

1

u/Emotional_Aspect7241 3d ago

Just remove it

1

u/ashrasmun 3d ago

leave feedback in the survey in the launcher

1

u/Castia10 2d ago

I was generally in shock for 4-5 seconds at the full screen Blizzard ap

1

u/oblakoff 2d ago

Wait, you guys don’t just right click the tray icon?

1

u/7hiigh 2d ago

Boomers

1

u/Interesting_Basil_80 2d ago

Yeah the new settings just look too busy and smashed together. I went back to the old settings- at least until blizzard tells me I have to use the new one.

1

u/Vegasmarine88 2d ago

Its funny its like they put a bunch of people in a room and make a new launcher. The problem was none of the new what a launcher was and just made it like a blizzard yahoo page or something.

1

u/Quirky_Net8899 2d ago

From a UX perspective the new layout is objectively better.

The play button and account selection being alone in the empty space in a corner is objectively bad UX design. Moving it to a more central location is a good thing.

You can also just collapse those "ads" so you don't have to see them. https://i.imgur.com/8DAghth.png

1

u/ydob_suomynona 2d ago

Dude you made an edit by crossing out typed text instead of pressing delete and have bnet launcher full screen. How old are you 70? Next time use white-out on your monitor to edit and redact stuff

The new version looks fine, press "view less"

1

u/Rarhyx 2d ago

disable it, then you can give feedback

1

u/Oriyus 2d ago

You get what you deserve.

1

u/Legal_Tradition_9681 2d ago

By objective you mean subjective right. Since it is an opinion that is relative.

I do agree with you though on your subjective opinion.

1

u/SubwayDeer 2d ago

'Objectively' and then it's a subjective opinion.
Same old, very original.

1

u/Key_Anxiety3018 2d ago

As long as there’s a play button somewhere. The rest could disappear

1

u/stiky21 2d ago

Full screened bnet launcher?

Sorry I can't listen to you after seeing that

1

u/Holiday_Armadillo78 2d ago

I like the new one better. The old style of all of the wow game types in a single drop-down was annoying.

1

u/Panther3927 2d ago

Subjectively

1

u/MathematicianSame466 2d ago

what is this resolution?

1

u/redbanner1 2d ago

I don't like it either, and I literally only used the old one for like 3 days, but I switched anyway, because eventually the old one will probably disappear. May as well get used to the new one.

1

u/Beamer-The-Mage 2d ago

Wow Player: *Has an opinion*

Same Wow Player: "Here's an undeniable fact for you..."

1

u/lbiggy 2d ago

I actually feel disgusted looking at a maximized bnet launcher

1

u/RobCo90 2d ago

I switched it back immediately. Do whatever you want to it except move the play button.

1

u/Treydor 2d ago

It is worse and I suggest you tell them that in the feedback of the launcher

1

u/Krexson 2d ago

"Objectively" 🙄

1

u/HunterNika 2d ago

I'm just glad that I finally do not have to stare at Xalafeet's ugly, smug face.

1

u/Thin_Mousse4149 2d ago

I like it but also who cares?

1

u/Accomplished-Two2231 2d ago

Yup it’s a piece of shit. Why “fix” something when it isn’t broken

1

u/Ok-Respect-8505 2d ago

Okay, first world issues

1

u/kranitoko 1d ago

Dude how wide is your screen?

3000 by 800?

1

u/xxGUZxx 1d ago

It’s like these people don’t even use the launcher

1

u/Deadlynitro 1d ago

Booted up for the first time in a few years, saw the new layout button clicked it, instantly clicked it again and continued my viewing experience I a less congested view of the old layout.

1

u/oh_father 1d ago

What’s all that space ova there?

1

u/AvidRune 23h ago

"We got a toggle for that"

1

u/dtgunslinger99 23h ago

updates never bring improvements

1

u/Furian_FTH 18h ago

The ”view less” automatically reopens everytime you click something else.

1

u/GiantMonkeyDiaper 13h ago

I always think that guy is Jack posobeic

1

u/Relative-Space2248 12h ago

I am still annoyed that we no longer have the warcraft launcher!! It was green when I started, now its just boring!

1

u/Big-Government9904 3d ago

Agreed, I’m a graphic designer specializing in UI/UX digital design. Multiple reasons why it’s worse off.

4

u/SubwayDeer 2d ago

Good thing you explained why it is worse, so we can verify if it's just your opinion or you actually know what you are talking about :)

3

u/LogDull819 2d ago

he's probably even lying that he's a UI/UX designer. People are weird

3

u/Consistent-Media7542 2d ago

Agreed, I am actually a real graphic designer specializing in UI/UX an i totally agree with you👍

2

u/d4hc87 2d ago

Very broad statement my dude. Care to elaborate on why you think this or just wanna leave us with your well versed opinion to figure that out on our own?

-1

u/SingeMoisi 3d ago

New layout is objectively better

People will get used to it and shut up about it, as usual. It's not like the previous layout is all that great. It also didn't change for all games that are not World of Warcraft.

2

u/UnagiBro 3d ago

i don’t even understand how its better or worse i just see the play/launch button in a different spot personally

0

u/Galrath91 3d ago

They‘ll ruin battle net now too, watch and see.

0

u/wozman 3d ago

It’s booty cheeks but it made me realize that you can right click the icon at the top to launch the game lol

0

u/Realistic_Earth_1240 3d ago

Io preferisco il nuovo

0

u/Tokkoa 3d ago

blizzard must have hired youtubes ui guy

0

u/Abakus_Grim 2d ago

Do you all really spend enough time in the launcher for this to matter?

0

u/AlleinTeilDeluxe 2d ago

lItERALlIey obtZsCHaeKTiFeLy

-1

u/Darkpactallday 3d ago

I hate it. I hate battle.net since it was first introduced.

-1

u/Namlad 3d ago

Press play or touch grass. Stop hanging out in the launcher. Blizzard is here to make money. Nobody cares that you're seeing too many ads.
