Hobbies
I believe I've asked this question before here, but what kind of easy inexpensive hobbies do you guys like doing? Also, I have wanted to try knitting for the longest time, but just have neglected to pick it up and get started. I feel like I would like it, I did sowing as a requirement back in independent living camp, best requirement I’ve ever done and I actually begged my teacher to let me do every chance I got cause I just loved it that much.

lol, idk if its a hobby but I’ve been trying to learn to sing. It’s led me to realizing I have a very poor grasp of music theory in general, so I’m going to try and learn piano to help.

Um... That's... Extremely concerning and you might wanna get some help. I mean there’s nothing wrong with drinking, I like a good drink or two sometimes, but that really shouldn’t be the only thing you do. I'm not trying to trash on your lifestyle or your choices, but even though I may not know you I still care about your health and I want you to be happy and healthy, please talk to someone.

I knit now that I can't really embroider. I also play video games, mostly horror, or read for as long as my remaining eye will tolerate it. I also walk a lot and play pokemon go whenever the sun isn't out to fuck with my eye. And I cook and bake ALOT. I love food. It's why I'm so fat lol

Hello
I'm loving this thread. I use to read lots but it kinda stopped because well life; so am trying to pick it back up again.
I just moved to a different country. and was always fascinated by knitting. I've never done it. but am kinda looking at joining a society at uni for knitting but I don't know how accessible it is for someone with no functional vision; are their any resources? :)
I write too..
but again; am quite spiratic with it.
baking also fascinates me though of course never tried it. just learnin to kinda cook cuz living by myself now.

Love this thread. I love to walk. I have a guide dog and we are always looking for new sidewalks to conquer. Yoga and mat pilates are visually impaired friendly, and if I’m ever doing the wrong move, I can’t tell anyway, lol. Libby for audiobooks. I just started to crochet again, and it’s so addictive my hands are aching. I like watercolor, ink, and acrylic. I have RP with probably 10-15 degrees of questionable vision left, and my color vision is pretty bad. In my art classes, people always comment on my unique color palates 🥸
I also enjoy piddling around my house, decluttering, and cleaning up, but I have to be in the right mood. I’m always trying to simplify my life to make this easier and the challenge of problem solving is kinda fun.

That sounds nice, I also like going to the gym and stuff, I did knitting a long time ago in middle school, and I loved it, I want to pick it back up again and see if it’s good. I have been wanting to do it for a while, but I just haven’t done it but I’m gonna go to the art store tomorrow and pick up some stuff.
Cooking and cleaning is also fun, although cleaning up the mess after cooking isn’t that fun but I in general just like cleaning.

One of my hobbies is sewing, but I only hand sew. I'm about to start working on a couple of skirts I sat aside a time back. I have too many hobbies, depending on various things getting juggled around in my life. Bonsai, woodworking (a little expensive at times but carving isn't), , jewelry making (lots of bead work can be inexpensive), and I took up nature photography for a time, using AI descriptions to compose pictures during editing on my phone. That goes back to the sewing because I sometimes put together costumes and get pictures of them to have the AI to describe then friends to tell me if they look good. It's coming up on Halloween... There's other hobbies, but they're a little more expensive.

That’s nice, yeah I should pick up sewing again, but I’m not sure what I would sew, probably just do something random lol. I like jewelry making although I don’t do it professionally, and I usually just make stuff for my friends or people who I think would like certain stuff. I used to make a lot of bracelets and necklaces a few years ago, I should probably start doing that again because I have a ton of beads in my room, and my mom has thousands and thousands of sewing stuff downstairs, so I might just take that apart when I have time sift through it and see what I like.

Sometimes I get excited over a bolt of cool feeling fabric, other times I take on alterations, but like I said I only hand sew so it can take a bit of time. I have to be in the right frame of mind or I just can't put any passion into a project... Hope you have fun.

Yeah, I would probably only hand so as well, something tells me not to trust those sewing machines, I just feel like I get hurt with them, especially since I am extra clumsy lol. Also, I feel like unless I was really good at it or I had a little bit more vision, I wouldn’t have as much tactile feedback as I would doing it with my hands. How do you keep your needles stable? At the program I went to, they stuck the needle in a soap bar, and that kept it stable, so it could just sit on the table as you did your project, I’m thinking that if I start again, I might do that exact same thing.

I have a bunch of pin cushions to stick the needles in, even one I can wear on my wrist, but it gets in the way. I like using the quilting safety pins that have a bend in one side, and I have a metal box of those. Everything else is in plastic craft boxes that have the small compartments.

That’s nice, I have heard of pincushions, but I’ve never seen them, I really like the soap bar idea though because it is solid and it probably doesn’t move around as much.

Loom knitting might be a good way to get started, I personally learn best if someone is there teaching me. I also sometimes sew using one of my support worker's sewing machines, I'd like to get one of my own eventually. I've made scrunchies, skirts, pillow cases. One thing I want to make is a bag for a braille display. I also like playing sports, and I've never thought of myself as a sporty person (growing up, I couldn't play any sighted sports and there were no blind sports, plus I grew up low vision so don't think I would've been eligible to play any). I have been playing blind tennis for a year and tried blind cricket for the first time last week, which I also mostly enjoyed. When I go to the US, I'd love to try beep baseball. I also play D&D, I'm keen to try other TTRPGs, and I also like playing other games occasionally. Beyond that, writing stories, audiobooks, sometimes cooking/baking with box mixes.

I’ve done Lum knitting before, and it hasn’t really been my favorite, but maybe I’ll try it again and maybe I will like it more. I’ve played a lot of sports and I enjoy some of them, but even if I don’t, I’m glad that I got the opportunity to do so when I do.

Maybe even crochet? I haven't tried proper crochet yet, though I'm interested to learn, but I can do a chain stitch with my fingers :P

Divination can be inexpensive and interesting for some. Journaling helps with that since you can learn to track your failures and successes.

This is a fun question!
I’m apparently similar to others. Knitting, crocheting, and sewing are hobbies. I use a machine for sewing but I can hand sew also. Tablet weaving and spinning are two skills I’m working on.
I spend a lot of time reading and deep diving into topics. For a while I was having fun going through the free MIT courseware offerings. Right now I’m going through an introduction to linguistics course from coursera. But I also read fiction, especially fantasy.
Some other stuff I do is I play violin and sing.
For physical activities I enjoy yoga. Swimming when I can get to a gym. I used to be more active but my vision has changed significantly. Hoping to get more active again. I’ve never been a huge TV watcher. So I don’t do that a lot.
More often than not, when I’m looking to relax, I play an audio book or podcast while knitting, crocheting, or weaving. While typically I prefer braille, you can’t really read braille and do anything else. Haha

Right now, I'm playing Hearthstone, but I also enjoy reading, writing, singing, composing music, sewing, embroidering, and doing origami.
