There’s no obvious signage heading east on the trail about the closure, so if you’ll end up having to detour back to Congress if you need to continue east on the trail. Txdots suggested detour is biking down Riverside 🙄
Txdot is gonna Txdot, so this is on PARD / Trail Conservancy to better communicate these closures with advanced detour signage.
Austin Family Rides is doing a Halloween cruise through Hyde Park next Saturday, and everyone's welcome. Costumes very much encouraged.
When: Saturday, Oct 24. Meet at 9:00, wheels down at 9:30
Where: Shipe Park (4400 Avenue G), and we start and end there
Two rides:
Classic ride (3–5 miles):for families on cargo bikes and kids who are confident riders. No-drop, low-traffic streets, lots of regroup stops.
Shorter, slower ride (1.5–3 miles): for kids pedaling themselves who might be a bit slower, with parents riding alongside.
We'll be back at the park around 10:30 for snacks and playground time. Bring helmets, water, and snacks.
If you're an experienced rider and want to help, we could use a couple of people to ride float and sweep on the shorter ride. Drop a comment or message me.
I moved back to Austin in June and I’ve been noticing bike lanes have gotten a lot bumpier because of new bike lane markings. It appears that instead of repainting the markings, the City has laid pre-made markings on top of the old one, making them elevated enough to feel like rolling over a bunch of little speed bumps. I’ve noticed it particularly on the Pedernales bike path, the 3rd street bike lanes in downtown, and areas in North Austin around Shoal Creek, but I’m sure there are a lot more places. I’ve brought this up to my friends, and they’ve all said they try to dodge the marking (I do too), so not only is this a comfort issue—it could easily turn into a safety issue.
Has anyone else noticed this? When did this start happening? Do we know if anyone at the City is aware that this is super uncomfortable and potentially dangerous for biking?
I’m also wondering if anyone has ideas about who to contact about this. I’m thinking about maybe reaching out to my councilman, but I’d love to get ideas for other ways to raise this issue.
(Pictured above: 6th and Pedernales -- notice how there are two layers to the marking)

My friend had her e-bike stolen off her porch in her apartment complex in Wells Branch. AirTag seems like it’s still in the neighborhood but unable to find it when we walked around looking for it. Police report filed.
Looking for other opinions on the bike lanes on shoal creek. Lots of runners there, are bike lanes in Austin shared use? Do I have to yield to these runners in the bike lanes? Genuinely curious
In particular, knee issues. I’m 63 and need a knee replacement. I need guidance on how to build strength and how much riding is advisable before I do the deed in the spring. I have a highly respected orthopedist, but I can tell they don’t know jack about cycling.
Last weekend my red trek road bike was stolen from the parking garage at my apartment complex near Zilker park. Please message me if you saw anything. Last known location on my GPS tracker was a hotel by 35 and Koenig
Keep seeing NRS mountain biking pop up around Texas. Their whole vibe looks like a sick underground crew or gang lol. Does anyone know how you actually get down with them? Is it just run by that anonymous guy noxver757 / noxver with the black full-face helmet? Looks like a kid trying to be cool lol. Also do they actually make clothes/merch or nahh? Imma just DM him and call him Nox lol, but I want to ride with them if they aren't totally closed off.
Not that it doesn’t suck to bike in the Domain anyway. But does suck to see any bike infrastructure taken away no matter how minimal. The yellow signage is still up though.
Unfortunately I don’t have pictures, it’s doesn’t have distinguishing characteristics, and I didn’t have it locked up so I know it’s likely gone for good but it was an early 2010s Rockhopper Comp 29.
This is more of a PSA than anything else (lock it up and bring it inside) but the thief rode into our street around 4am to case the area on an electric (Bird?) scooter then came back around 5am to grab the bike, put it into a black SUV, and leave with the headlights off. Boo.

Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it.
We stop at red lights, yield the right of way and let cars pass as best we can. WE DON’T BLOCK INTERSECTIONS. We are nice to both our fellow riders and the other traffic on the road. Please LISTEN TO the volunteers helping to lead the ride. They are some nice folks and have your best interest in mind. We ride these streets every single week and thus far we’ve managed to keep local law enforcement at bay by abiding by these rules. Let’s keep it that way!
**Please pick up after yourselves and throw away your trash.
REMINDER: The goal has always been to create a safe environment for all riders, but we cannot control, nor do we desire to, every rider’s behavior. We promote personal responsibility, and it is each rider’s responsibility to take care of themselves, and if they choose to ride with us, then they accept those risks inherent in riding a bicycle with a large group of other people riding bicycles.

I already posted in r/bikecommuting for advice on getting started since I haven't been on a non-stationary bike in at least 15 years.
Do y'all have any advice on a work commute along Parmer Ln between IH-35 and McNeil? The total distance is about 6 miles. I know there aren't any protected lanes until I turn onto McNeil itself, but I'm really hoping to be able to start riding to work instead of driving such a short distance.
Because this is TX, any recommendations on what I should bring along so that I don't smell awful by the time I'm actually in the office?
I'm going to ACL on Friday with my kid, and I was thinking about just riding us there on an e-cargo bike. Can anyone weigh in on how secure the bike parking feels in the designated zones outside of the fest? If we lock up with with a giant Kryptonite chain lock, will the bike likely be safe? I know there are no guarantees, but I'm just wondering if bike theft has historically been an issue during the festival. Thanks!
Bike tag #1517 is located at 30.196773, -97.869136 by a new ramp to the paved bike path just southwest of Slaughter/Mopac and close to Alamo Drafthouse. Very nice improvement as you can now access the path easily on skinny tires.
I'm guessing bike tag #1518 will be considerably easier for some of you.
First time playing, let me know if I'm doing this right!
My black/grey Trek was stolen during ACL W1 Saturday from the bike rack on the Barton Springs East entrance.
I know It’s a long shot on being found, but wanted to post anyways. Ty.

UPDATE: A bike that I’m *almost* positive is mine was recently listed and sold on FB. Not saying this seller is the one who took it, but it’s worth a look if you’re looking for a stolen bike too.
my bike got stolen last night m, they ripped the rack right out of the ground (whole foods east side parking garage) so i wouldn’t advise anyone lockup there. it has an airtag and i can see the location. has anyone been able to get there bike back successfully with a tracker?
