Hey folks, Seth from BikePGH here.
We're partnering with CMU's Human-Computer Interaction Institute on a focus group about how robots should behave around people on bikes. They're not in Pittsburgh yet, and I can't say we're enthusiastic about the prospect of having them here...but delivery and sidewalk robots are showing up in cities across the country. If they do get rolled out in Pittsburgh, we'd rather have people who actually ride here shaping how they act and get regulated before they're rolling all over the place.
When: Tuesday, October 13, 6 - 7:30pm
Where: CMU HCII design studio, 407 S Craig St, Oakland (first floor, accessible)
What you'll do: Try an interactive simulation where you show how you'd want a robot to yield, pass, keep its distance, or signal what it's about to do. Then meet CMU's robots in person and talk through safety, accessibility, and whatever concerns you have.
Skeptics are very welcome. If you don't want them anywhere near a bike lane and/or sidewalk, that's exactly the kind of feedback the researchers need to hear. And if you remember the Starship robots that were piloted in Oakland several years ago, bring those stories too.
Space is limited, so please RSVP if you're interested: https://secure.everyaction.com/6qU8ecst3UehYgbWhDpNiw2
