Just a delightful day

Last month I nominated the new IT guy at work for Employee of the Month, and he won!

I also nominated a specific manager for a values award (We Advocate) and she also won!

Then driving home from work today I pulled up beside a van for a disability support service I used to work for 1.5 yrs ago and knew the person in the passenger seat. I motioned to the carer/driver to wind down her window and I yelled out to say hello to the person I knew and told him I missed him and he was waving and so excited to see me and yelling back he missed me too.

A really sweet afternoon.

Haha I work in Quality & Risk and part of my role is managing org-wide feedback and complaints… so I make it my mission to provide specific formal positive feedback for people wherever I can because I know how impactful it can be.

I also do this in my every day life where there is opportunity, like at the register at the petrol station when they have the iPads set up for feedback… anywhere really! It takes minimal time and effort and genuinely impacts a real person who is also just doing their job and trying to get through their work day as best they can like the rest of us.

I provided feedback for an air stewardess once who looked after me when I was flying in to say goodbye to my dad who was on life support. She offered me free wines and sat with me for as much of the flight as she could. It took me all of ten minutes to write an email to the airline a couple of weeks later, I couldn’t remember her name as I was so distraught at the time but they were able to identify her based on my flight and my description of her. She then won a company award for her outstanding customer service.

Sorry this is turning into an essay… final points haha… If I can’t leave immediate feedback I usually make a note of the persons name in my phone notes and the time I was in-store so I can provide feedback to their employer after… and I also do this to model positive behaviour for my teenage sons!

The end.

I work in Quality & Risk and try to make sure I build excellent relationships with colleagues so they are comfortable speaking openly about compliance issues and risk with me!

… and as my comment further down… I make a point of leaving positive feedback for people with their work places. Everyone is just doing their best with what they have, especially at work!

It's amazing how spreading positivity like that can completely change an environment. You sound ideal for your job, an easy person with whom to share concerns.
