Smoke alarm
I own a house 2 hours from where I live. It's currently between tenants.
I got a call early this morning from a neighbour letting me know that a) the house wasn't on fire and b) the smoke alarm was going off
I decided to go for a nice drive to check the house out, change the battery, and run errands in the area.
On the way I realised I would need a ladder. I stopped at a hardware store and selected a nice aluminium step ladder.
I got to the house, changed the battery, petted the neighbours dog, then went to Ikea for meatballs.
It was a pleasant day.

As someone who recently dealt with the owner of the unoccupied unit next to mine who didn’t consider it at all important to replace the dying smoke detector batteries, THANK YOU for being so quick to handle this

Wouldn't the neighbours have lend you a ladder? It sounds like that kind of place where people lend stuff to eachother.

This went from a smoke alarm emergency to a full day of errands and IKEA meatballs. Glad the house was fine! Honestly sounds like a pretty nice way to spend the day. Were the meatballs worth the two hour drive?

I forgot what sub this was for a hot second. And so after almost every thought I was like oh snap it really was on fire, or the ladder fell off the truck after he bought it, or something big and expressive.
So it was just really nice to know that it ended with some meatballs!
