Housing Executive Advice
I’ve been told that I’m not eligible to buy my flat under the RTB scheme bc my tenancy (11yrs) isn’t long enough.
I’ve lived here with my father who passed last year so I only became a sole tenant last year as I’m not very old and only started to work in 2024.
I’ve a decent job now and know they’re changing the scheme so want to buy as it was his wish since he didn’t have much.
I’ve been told I don’t have a right to buy the flat despite the fact I’ve been here with my dad for 11 years.
Can I fight this?

If I was in your position I would escalate it further up in the housing executive. My mum passed in 2016, we'd been resident in the home since 2009 and I was offered to buy the property after she passed under the RTB scheme so no idea why you wouldn't qualify. I wasn't even a full time resident from 2012 - 2016 I lived in England during term time for uni

You don’t seem to understand how the right to buy scheme works so not sure why you’re commenting under this 👍

I know that it’s usually 5 years before you can buy but there are provisions for people who succeed a tenancy. Did they mention how long you’d need to be a standalone tenant?
