Weekly Mix Feedback Thread - October 12, 2026

Welcome to the Weekly Mix Feedback thread on r/beatmatch! This is the thread where you post your DJ mixes and ask other people to give you feedback. If you submit your mix, please take the time to listen and comment on some other submissions, especially if they play a style of music you're interested in. Thanks for your help in making these threads work well for everyone!

These threads are intended for beginning DJs who are honestly looking for feedback or critique on their technique, selection, transitions, etc. If you are an established DJ who is just looking for more followers/listens on your new mix or have a podcast/radio show, please post it to a more appropriate place such as /r/mixes or a genre-specific subreddit. Posts that appear to be purely promotional in nature may be removed at the moderators' discretion. This subreddit is aimed at helping new DJs learn and is not the place to promote yourself!

Guidelines:

  • Please include the genre(s) of your mix. This helps attract DJs/listeners of the same genre(s) who are likely to provide more useful feedback. You might also include a title/length.
  • [Mixcloud](http://www.mixcloud.com) is the preferred place to post mixes. It allows you to include your tracklist and transition times, allows unlimited uploads, and is generally more geared towards DJs. If you don’t want to use Mixcloud, be sure to include a tracklist.
  • Please ask for specific feedback or list parts of the mix you liked/didn’t like. Hopefully you are looking for input on specific tracks or transitions.

Example post:

[House / Tech House] djscsi - moving on up (45 minute mix)

http://www.mixcloud.com/djscsi/moving-on-up/

I’ve been spinning for about a year, this is the third mix I’ve recorded and I’m hoping to get some house / tech-house DJs’ opinions on my track selection and mixing. I really like the first few transitions but I feel like I lost some of the energy when I brought in the Maceo Plex track at about 13:30. I messed up a couple parts but I’ve listened to the mix a few times and I think it sounds pretty good. Does anyone think I used too much FX? Thanks for any feedback!

Note: If you have any general feedback about these threads or /r/Beatmatch in general, please message the moderators

My Experience with the Your Shot DJ Competition: I Received a Disqualification Notice After Submitting Feedback

Here is what happened:

In September 2026, I signed up for the Yourshots DJ program. According to the program requirements, participants were expected to complete five weeks of DJ training and attend four mandatory meetings. Each meeting lasted two hours, from 7 to 9 p.m., and took place at a nightclub.

During my time in the program, I attended two classes and one meeting. After the meeting, there was a survey in the app asking us to evaluate the classes and give them a rating.

My feedback was that I really liked the instructors. I thought they were serious, responsible, and professional, and the atmosphere among the participants was also great. I made a lot of friends. However, I did not like the two-hour meeting. I felt it was a waste of my time. The content could have been covered in just 10 minutes, but instead, the meeting lasted two hours, with the same things being repeated over and over, almost like a constant motivational pep talk. I suggested shortening the meetings.

A few days after submitting my feedback, I received an email from the Yourshots team informing me that I would no longer be allowed to participate in the competition and that they would refund the relevant fee.

I exchanged emails with the organization running the competition. I cannot know all the reasons behind their internal decision-making. All I know is that after I openly expressed my dissatisfaction with the meeting arrangements in my feedback, I subsequently received a notice that I had been disqualified from the competition.

I have participated in many events and competitions, and I have seen quite a lot over the years. This is the first time I have ever encountered a situation like this. I find it ridiculous.

I don't want to say too much more about this competition. I simply want to share my experience of participating in it, exactly as it happened.

Thank you, everyone.

————————————————
Just to clarify: I didn't miss a single class or meeting. Right after the first meeting, I submitted my feedback, and they immediately emailed me to disqualify me. The next meeting was two weeks away—how was I even supposed to attend the rest?

The truth is, they just couldn’t handle me pointing out that the meeting was a waste of time, full of empty hype, and just two hours of standing there listening to them repeatedly brag about how great they are. A real world-class competition doesn’t need to constantly boast about being world-class. Plain and simple, they don't want any criticism of their meetings; they only want people to praise them.

Rotary Mixer -> Power Amp Pairing: Need Advice (Class AB vs Class D)

Hi everyone!

I’m building an analog home setup inspired by "Audiophile Listening Bars." My main goal is a rich, warm sound without any ear fatigue.

Here are my components:

• Sources: 2x Technics SL-1200M7B
• Mixer/Pre: Ecler WARM2 (Pure Analog Rotary Mixer)
• Speakers: Altec Lansing 997R (Vintage-style 3-way with big woofers)

My Idea:

I want to connect the Ecler WARM2 directly into a Rotel RB-1582 MKII (200W, Class AB, Dual Mono) via RCA. A local dealer was skeptical about using a DJ mixer as a preamplifier, but I know this is common in the rotary world.

My Questions:

  1. Is anyone running a similar chain (Analog Rotary Mixer -> RCA -> Pure Power Amp)? How is the noise floor?

  2. For a relaxed, non-fatiguing sound, is a heavy Class AB amp (like the Rotel) the best choice, or should I consider modern Class D / Class AD?

  3. What amp/power amp (and what class) are you currently using with your rotary mixer?

Music Playing for the first time in front of people next weekend!

I am playing for 2/3 hours at a house party with 30 people next weekend. It's gonna be my first time playing in front of others.

It's a daytime birthday party, we go to a bar after and then clubbing. Crowd will be mostly white and majority girls. I like techno but I am sure someone will request A thousand miles at some point lol

Any suggestions?

Need help reorganizing my wedding playlist

I can't afford a wedding DJ but I do have all of my songs chosen for the duration of the dancing portion of the night. I made a playlist that I will just play on the speakers. Need advice on how to organize these for the best transition/vibes.

background: I know I want to start with the first song being signed, sealed, delivered. Every other section (poorly grouped by me) are up for reorganizing. I am Bosnian so there will be a few Bosnian songs. I want to include all the music in the playlist and want to end the night with more edm/rap because I want the older people to have fun at the beginning of the night.

Playlist:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/63GiNcn48A1LcXPGJRVhvk?si=86gKM3OJSLybbdHFa52mBQ&utm_source=copy-link&pi=Je5WT37bRdaJh

If anyone is down to help me, that would be great!

Industry/Gigs Do people want to hear spooky music the whole night on Halloween at a club?

I'm playing a set on Halloween at a 'club' (large bar that converts into a club for events). There are 5 other DJs on the lineup, I'm playing 11-12am.

My question is whether it's typical to play spooky music literally the whole night at these kinds of events or if people just wanna party with Halloween-y and spooky stuff sprinkled in throughout the night. I don't wanna play too many of the classics (thriller, ghostbusters, etc) because it's super likely someone else on the lineup will also play them.

I've never been out partying on Halloween before so idk what's typical. Just wanna be prepared, any guidance appreciated!

edit: thank you all sm for the advice! imma just play my normal shit with a few spooky tracks in there <3

Bass swaps in layered techno

Hi everyone,

Just had this question coming to my mind:

While layering techno, do you sometimes make the bass swap with the other eqs of the incoming track still decreased ? Or do you always get these at 12 before doing the bass swap ?

Just curious as it is something I do quite often but don't see many other techno djs do the same.

Thanks yall

Hardware Sound not coming out of both speakers? What am I doing wrong?

I have technics m3d’s with an Allen and heath xone 23 and Adam a7 speakers. I have the speakers connected to my mixer with standard xlr cables. When I’m playing, whatever is playing on the left channel only plays through the left speaker and whatever is playing on the right channel only plays on the right speaker. My crossfader is in the middle. When I have both channels playing trying to mix, the sound from both tracks doesn’t come through both speakers. Is this supposed to be happening? What am I doing wrong?

Volume difference in tracks

sorry if this is a silly question but how do you deal with tracks that have lower volume than others? I have also notice ones with louder volume like you can tell the master wasn’t the best. do you keep those tracks and adjust overall volume or prefer to get rid of them? I’m leaning more the latest but wanted to know what ppl do. I’m learning by myself so I don’t really have people to talk these things with lol

Rane System one or Rane 12 mk 2 and a mixer

Which would you go for?

I like the all in one system of the system one, but the 12’s also look good and VDJ with larger turntables is appealing.

Streaming to XDJ-AZ

I sold my FLX-10 and upgraded to an AZ, but one thing I miss the most is being able to just add a song to my SoundCloud and put it in my mixes.

Having to download every new track and put it onto my usb is a pain, and a lot of SoundCloud’s tracks aren’t available out there to download.

Is there a way to stream to my AZ like I did on my FLX-10? I don’t want to dj on the laptop itself I still want to use the AZ screen, but am not opposed to just plugging in the laptop and having it off to the side.

Industry/Gigs Did a DJ pop up set. It went well/didn't go well, but recommend others try out.

If you want details (the hustle, cost, issues, process, etc.), reply in the comments and I'll do a new post and write something up. I don't want to spend the time writing something if it's not going to help or interest the community here.

EDIT - I just stopped by to see if anyone actually responded. I'll type something up with the details. I hope to have it in a couple of days. I really hope it'll help and motivate.

Industry/Gigs First timer cdj 3000x with some questions

Hi. I got a closing slot for a event on Friday, but I’ve only ever opened before so I have some questions…

How do I go about getting my usb in? Do I ask the DJ and then plug into the other CDJ?

Do they link automatically or do I need to manually link them?

How do I mix out of his track and then take out his USB properly?

Sorry if these are pretty basic questions, any help and additional tips are appreciated

Budget subwoofer($500)

Aight lemme give all the context I see so much mixed feedback.
I don’t do weddings or a ton of bar gigs or anything to make a lot of $$$ from DJing, me and my friends have started hosting free parties and hope to make some profit in the future but we aren’t there yet.
I own pretty much everything for a full dj rig except a sub.
I can continue to rent and borrow for the parties but I do a lot of random pop ups with my friends (I own a vintage store we do events randomly and people ask me to dj their events here and there)
I have mackie thump 212 tops (12”) they’re honestly great but I need the sub, don’t wanna break the bank, most people in a room is like 100 max tbh usually small outdoor spaces or smallish rooms , if I did anything larger scale I’d rent till that’s a consistent gig.
You could make me super happy by showing me good affordable options and not just the best one that’s $499 and barely in my budget.

Other any tips? How do I start DJing.

Hello! I hope this is the right sub to ask questions about DJing. I don’t exactly know what a beatmatch is, or if it has to do with DJing. I freksinf LOVEEE house music and would love to start mixing some songs, as well as just have fun.

I was thinking of getting a flx2, ddj 400 or flx 4 recently to get started. I have no idea and no knowledge about any of the programs ljke rekordbox and Serato or whatever tho.

I am extremely sorry if this is an overasked question, but how do you learn to dj? I am kind of considering buying some course from DJ Carlo. But if I could learn it on my own, or if there were any tips for the flx 4 in specic I’d love to know.

Thanks!!!!

Where to sell my Pioneer XDJ-XZ-N Gold?

I’ve posted it on eBay and FB marketplace without any offers. Is there another platform that is better for selling DJ equipment?

Software I like Mixxx. Is there a reason to get used to rekordbox instead?

I have a DDJ FLX-4 which I bought for better mixing. I was using 2-4 decks with Mixxx before this. I am on Linux, but have Win 11 as well for rekordbox.

Is there a reason to start mixing with rekordbox instead of Mixxx? Whenever I use rekordbox, I keep wondering what I gain vs Mixxx. I haven't discovered any features yet that seemed better.

Is it just about getting used to club equipment and preparing USBs in rekordbox for use with CDJ, or are there other benefits to using rekordbox?

New dj - looking for constructive criticism

Hey all, I’m a beginner DJ (rekordbox + DDJ-FLX4) and I’ve got a 25-minute set at a beginner DJ competition. It’s judged partly on phrasing. I want people dancing, with a little contrast and some recognizable moments. Here’s my set:

  1. Olive F – Hot Sauce (Extended Mix) – 127, 11A
  2. Noize London, Natty Valencia – Red Light (Original Mix) – 125, 10A (short, darker twist)
  3. Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You (Original Mix) – 124, 7A
  4. Kideko, Wh0 – Soul Searcher (Extended Mix) – 125, 8A
  5. Spiller – Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) (Original Mix) – 123, 8A (breather / singalong)
  6. Yvvan Back, FabioEsse – Coração (Extended Mix) – 124, 11A (cut in from Groovejet)
  7. Hard Drive Library – When I Feel U (Original Mix) – 130, 1A (closer)

Mostly 16-bar blends, one cut (Groovejet → Coração), and tempo climbing from ~125 to 130 at the end.

Questions:

  • Does the order and energy flow make sense?
  • Is Red Light too dark/out of place for this vibe?
  • Is When I Feel U a good closer, or would you end differently?
  • Any tracks you’d swap in that fit this funky/disco house lane?

MPC or DJ Deck?

I have a mpc live 2 and I've created a bunch of songs on the device. I've a lot of experience using the device for writing, but I've never done a full set with it where the songs flowed continuously.
Does anyone have experience running an mpc with a dj deck?
I'd like to keep the mpc as part of the workflow because I have a midi glove which works great for controlling effects (like lowpass filter), or muting tracks or pads (like muting the bass or the kick).
Is there a dj deck that could take midi messages so that I could route a midi controller to control effects and things like that?

Also, is there a deck that could work with audio coming in from an instrument, in this case the mpc, instead of from a usb or streaming service?
