The Beastie Boys were my favorite band for years. Saw them five times back in the day. Caught Mike D at Riot Fest in 2017 and honestly wasn't impressed, so I was hesitant about seeing him again. (It made me sad ... )

But I've been listening to his new album, and it's pretty solid. Went from not wanting to go to getting excited about Saturday in Detroit.

Anyone seen him on this tour? How's the show?

Watching that now and im curious of the artistic meaning behind it?
My theory is, Ad-Rock is and has always been the crowd favorite but MCA has the secret ingredient of the group's music. And to go a little deeper, Mike D was in Beastie Boys with MCA before Ad-Rock joined which would make Mike D that much more loyal which is why in the video Mike D is the main assitant/loyal - guard of MCA, but Ad Rock is coming up to steal the "ingredients" from MCA - but doing it quite Bluntly! By using Explosives to open the safe - waking MCA and a fight ensues. Mike D wakes up to defend MCA while Ad-Rock cuts MCA's head off - but Mike is there to repair him because Mike knows who actually runs the show and knows who's really the magic ingredient behind the Beastie Boys. And the idea that - even tho Ad Rock is the most favored, it should be respected that MCA is the Glue or Special ingredient of the group. Of course, Ad Rock also knows this is true which is why he would even agree - or at least on a subconcious level - agree to such a video. At the end, Ad Rock does get the ingredients but we all know where it comes from, but the final ingredient just looks like an average fondu if only Ad Rock makes it - which brings back the concept that it takes all three to make the ingredients work!

For those who like their educational content served up like a Beastie Boys Pop Up Video segment.

So I’m planning on going to the Chicago show in a couple days, and I had a question: would it be weird to try and meet him after the show? I sometimes wait outside of the venue after shows I go to to see if I can get a chance to meet the artist and get something signed or a pic with them, but I’m not so sure if that would be odd with Mike D. Most of the artists I see are a lot younger than him, and I know he’s 60, so I don’t want to be bothering him if he just wants to get where he needs to go after the show. What do you guys think? I don’t want to be disrespectful haha.

I am going to the show in Chicago this Friday. I have around a four-hour drive to the venue and I am trying to get an idea of when I need to leave.

The event page says the show starts at 7:30 and the doors open at 6:00. Does Mike have an opening act? If there isn’t an opener does Mike go on stage close to the start time?

Parody record from the 80s (one of them went on to have a successful writing career and I'm actually a massive fan of his books).

The record itself is awful but had to add to my collection for the novelty/ beasties related side plus the artwork/cover photos are great!

All you party people posting cassette tapes will probably get a kick out of this. Love seeing the collections.

I'll admit when I originally got Ill Communication, The Update wasn't a top song for me. It's a pretty deep cut. But I was looking for a song as a B-Side for my new single and this song came on and it all clicked.

So I did my best to try and amplify MCAs message. The instrumental had a lot more layers than I realized and was fun to figure out and recreate.

I love these two mixes. 1997 with MCA and Mike D, then 2000 with Ad-Rock and AWOL (as BS 2000).

BBC Radio 1 was a pretty big deal at that time, Mary Anne Hobbes was the DJ with her finger on the pulse for EDM, hip hop, etc. This was her big weekend show and being invited was a pretty cool thing. Lots of great music was debuted in Breezeblock sets.

Anyway, I love the selection, the banter, the creative mixing (even with a few brief trainwrecks). I have a long list of discography projects before this, but I have it in my head to some day upgrade these mixes with high quality audio (then re-match EQ and compression, extract and overlay banter and scratches, re-apply fades, etc.) WOuld anyone be interested in such a project?
