Being an AI dev is not the problem, however being an incompetent AI dev is

117

u/RadiationReaper 14h ago

Both are a problem

-21

u/ScorchIsBestSniper 13h ago

AI can be used to increase dev productivity, but only to an extent. It’s good for quickly eliminating a lot of tedium

The problem comes when people get dependent on it. Don’t let it do anything that you think an intern might fuck up, and it stays as a tool for filling out spreadsheets, giving code a once-over (importantly not in-depth), and similar tasks

Of course, corporate gives no fucks about the limit to which it is useful, and do everything in their power to maximize its usage. Productivity is measured in lines of code, you’re expected to consume a quota of tokens, and you keep getting requests to push it into areas it doesn’t belong to “””“automate”””” them

19

u/RadiationReaper 13h ago

Ai wasn’t needed in the business before and isn’t needed now. Companies shouldn’t use it AT ALL BECAUSE companies like ea will use it to cut corners and cause more issues. If AI is used at all it is an excuse to be cheap and not hire or pay someone to actually do a job.

2

u/ScorchIsBestSniper 13h ago

Wasn’t needed before sure, but that’s literally all technology

Companies are using it to cut corners, and it is causing problems. That’s not a fundamental problem with AI, it’s a problem with using something wrong to cut corners

Used to be cheaper and not pay someone to do a job… just like every piece of machinery since the industrial revolution

Though it is in an interesting spot; using AI properly is cheaper right now, but the infrastructure supporting it is sucking in money like a motherfucker, and eventually it’s gonna run out. Only questions are when and what remains

2

u/eggzaacklee 9h ago

For example using ai machine learning tools to pack UV for 3D models is great, you put in parameters you need and the tool does the rest in a smart and fast way. And everyone knows packing UVs efficiently is pain in the ass and unnecessary tetris session, and steamrolling through it makes the rest of the work that maters done faster. You do need to manually unfold everything though otherwise no amount of packing will fix stretched textures

u/chickenfriedrice416 10h ago

AI work is not real work

u/Jakel_07Svk 14h ago

Yet the bayonet scabbard is still rotated inwards since 1.7.....

10

u/Outrageous_Horse8379 10h ago

You dont understand, they are just super focused on arma 4 /s

Meanwhile you still have people coping saying to just not buy them, like my brother in Christ, be fr, this of all things makes sense to be mad about. I mean, if more people were mad back when some of us were saying that something felt off we probably wouldn’t be in this situation, now a sizable portion of this community is suddenly starting to see that this game isn’t just complained about on Reddit like they’d say to cope with the fact we’ve been rug pulled and scammed out of $70. It’s laughable really, but hey, if you support AI generated dogshit, keep consuming away, but don’t act like everyone who does notice this shit are the bad guys or idiots.

18

u/OwnAHole 11h ago

You just know they wouldn't have this same energy if it was CoD or any other game, it's only "not so bad" when it's beloved Battlefield.

6

u/No-Bid-3840 11h ago

Exactly, Like I genuinely find it as no surprise that MW4s marketing is mostly focusing on the cosmetics especially with this going on rn let alone their own community having an uproar about BO7s cosmetics.

•

u/SheridanWithTea 16m ago

If it was only.

5

u/i_froze 4h ago

Everyone likes to handwave skins as "not a big deal" when they get complained about.

They were never the point. The entire time, whenever someone complains about a skin, it's the fact that that content has even made it into the game.

Dice has no constraints for their art direction, if they even have an art direction at this point. They don't attempt to conform to their own setting whatsoever.

The more and more you let your constraints slip or fall away entirely, the worse the overall product becomes in ALL FACETS.

That's how you get actor skins in your game. That's how you get soldier skins from completely different time periods in your game.

Oh wait... Miles Teller and Dual-Rank WW2 soldier are already. fucking. here.

Battlefield isn't attempting to create an immersive arcade shooter experience any more, which was the defining factor of franchise icons like bf3/4/1. It's the major reason those games are held in such high regard.

They adhered to a style and a vision and it made the experience remarkably better, on top of them being fun games.

Bf6 is a decently fun game. But it's only ever going to be remembered as being better than 2042. And that bar is in HELL.

It was never about the skins. It's what the skins mean. It's what the shitty animations mean. What all the missing features and bad changes to the formula mean.

It means that they don't even respect their own game and they damn sure don't respect their community.

It's so frustrating to see smoothbrains miss drawing this quite simple fucking conclusion over and over

Frustrated rant over LMFAO.

2

u/KHWD_av8r 3h ago

The solution really is to stop giving them money, and making sure that they know why. We vote with our wallets, and if companies see that AI slop isn’t profitable, they won’t use it.

If we need to risk letting BF6 die so that the franchise thrives, it sucks but so be it.

Besides, spending money on poor quality content is just fiscally irresponsible, isn’t it?

1

u/No-Bid-3840 1h ago

People are addicted to consuming, it’s just the way people are now, that’s why this will never change, you’ll have people screaming and hollering about it but they won’t follow up with action. For example I haven’t even touched this game since season 2 because I saw where the ship was going and hopped ship before the inevitable crash.

12

u/ShowyProgram 13h ago

Getting publicly clowned on by Bohemia is wild.

17

u/ResidentDrama9739 14h ago

That's fucking hysterical!

8

u/UglyLikeCaillou 14h ago

Bad when you can’t even defend the game anymore, just gotta roll with the punches.

7

u/-VioletEverlight- 13h ago

you can fit about 30 shots of morphine in your pants pockets too and I like to imagine that's a fun little surprise for whoever loots my body

39

u/The_Omen17 14h ago

Get fucked by my favorite franchise DICE.

23

u/DhruvM 13h ago

This honestly makes me want to check out arma reforger and other games outside of BF. This franchise just ain’t it anymore with all the BS it puts out

19

u/GreasyPeter 12h ago

Wardogs is where it's at. It's a more organized Arma. Arma is kinda a sandbox. They're both better than battlefield.

7

u/Leopard_2K_MBT 10h ago

There's also the older BFs, like BF3, BF4, and BF1 (the actual GOAT when it comes to FPS games).

5

u/DhruvM 12h ago

I have both on my list!

-2

u/Brilliant-Sky2969 10h ago

Wardogs is boring if you're a bf player, it's very slow and vastly different.

4

u/Independent-South-58 8h ago

Depends on the type of BF player you are, if your only interested in running around at mach Jesus and shooting people every 5 seconds yea it's boring. If you're not one of those people it's actually really fun, especially if you are a support main and like heavy weapons like Mortars and machine guns

5

u/Jeeefffman 12h ago

Arma reforger is great! It has a high learning curve it’s worth it, and I had so many “Battlefield (arma) moments”!

2

u/_Nameless_Nomad_ 11h ago

Unfortunately Arma 4 is also coming to consoles. It’s gonna go on the same downward slide Battlefield did of chasing trends and money.

Something better will take its place eventually, cycle always repeats. Sucks to see happen though. I love Arma, and used to love Battlefield.

1

u/sharkk125 10h ago

Knowing bohemia, I doubt that, im assuming they'll probably do the same thing they did with arma 3, release a bunch of actual dlcs that add vehicles and shit to the game but then you never actually need them as many mods and ops wont really need them

2

u/HailStorm_Zero_Two 9h ago

They're removing steam workshop support specifically because they are prioritising console compatibility.

Granted, Arma has always had extensive modability without relying on it, but at least for PC users, it does feel like a step backwards and a big compromise, which is why people are concerned.

Bohemias' track record doesn't often keep team balance and overall playability in mind with their faction compositions and DLCs either, so it's going to be interesting to see how this turns out.

-2

u/Mammoth_Midnight_343 12h ago

Your gonna be super disappointed lmfao and don’t come to the reforger sub talking abt “this game is so bad idk what yall see”

1

u/DhruvM 12h ago

lol you sound so upset

4

u/AgentShovel 14h ago

Always have a backup for your backup

3

u/HaugerTheHunter 13h ago

EAI games, it's in the game.

3

u/No-Orange-5216 13h ago

😂 yet another reason to love Arma.

5

u/OrderOfMagnitude 10h ago

I love how everyone is just assuming AI did the 5 pistols.

Like there's no proof at all, it's just an assumption. I'm pretty sure AI can't make 3D models either.

I'm going to get downvote avalanched for saying this, but I genuinely think the ugly five pistols design was just someone trying to be cool and edgy.

1

u/ForsakenBobcat8937 1h ago

People love shouting "AI!!!" at everything for easy internet points now, it's super annoying.

1

u/ezuwua 6h ago

AI can absolutely make 3d models though

2

u/OrderOfMagnitude 4h ago

I mean these kinds of 3D models specifically

2

u/untraiined 10h ago

if a game blatantly uses A.I. and doesnt advertise it you should be allowed to refund it when they pull a bait and switch

1

u/AstroWhitt 10h ago

Eventually people will have relied on AI for too long to the point they won't be able to do anything themselves. I mean just look at autocorrect...people rely on that already.

1

u/Shoddy-Strawberry261 9h ago

And alas, those are the most bland and forgettable skins ever, and if you spend money on them, I will judge you

1

u/Still_Conference_923 7h ago

Gonna buy Arma again and wish I could refund BF6

1

u/Quad_A_Games Enter EA Play ID 6h ago

Is reforger good?

1

u/Kornstar04 6h ago

Should be called out by everyone.

1

u/Musicmaker1984 5h ago

I still don't understand why the devs couldn't just model skins out of real life setups and kits. All this effort for skins that make no sense and look unappealing to the core audience. Just give us classic BF3 and BF4 classes

1

u/oldguccimoney 1h ago

They look ugly tho

1

u/kameleka 1h ago

At least it has 5 fingers as well (irony)

1

u/Skitelz7 13h ago

LOL. I'm gonna find that tweet and tag them

1

u/Commander_Cj 12h ago

Hahahaha

0

u/Mikalton 10h ago

Arma trying to be relevant. Funny

-22

u/MysteriousForeteller 14h ago

Sounds like their operator skins are unrealistic then. How are they carrying 5 sidearms?

37

u/fatalityfun 14h ago

backpack

26

u/kuhndog94 14h ago

Ever heard of a day pack?

-4

u/Right-Succotash-9980 13h ago

Can we pls not side with bohemia interactive they are just as money hungry as dice/ea atleast u can play ea games without the threat of hackers getting into ur pc just by logging into official servers 🤦‍♂️

2

u/GreasyPeter 12h ago

How are they equally money hungry?

-4

u/Right-Succotash-9980 12h ago

Realise broken updates constantly Refuse to fix cheating in official servers Charging insane prices for dlc And again official dayz servers can literally allow hackers to remote into some pcs

-14

u/Jimmorrison1771 14h ago

That's funny but Reforger is a mod download simulator . I did have fun when it worked but got so tired of having to update the server mods all the time. I got shit to do.

16

u/The_Omen17 14h ago

Coukd just play vanilla which is the cooler era anyway

-1

u/Mammoth_Midnight_343 12h ago

Once you play modded you realize how bare bones vanilla is and if your console vanilla is your only option and it’s super boring fast now that they decided to reset your level everytime you die

2

u/Smitethepedosplease 12h ago

Console can play modded servers

1

u/Mammoth_Midnight_343 12h ago

No we can’t it crashes as soon as you load in and then freezes every 45 seconds vanilla is the only thing that doesn’t crash it still freezes every 45 seconds tho

3

u/Smitethepedosplease 12h ago

I play modded on console all the time

2

u/Mammoth_Midnight_343 12h ago

What servers cause every server I’ve tried crashes

2

u/Smitethepedosplease 12h ago

One of the chenarus servers, the server that takes place in North Carolina, one of the Vietnam servers, WTF US Civil War maps like Pacifica.

2

u/Mammoth_Midnight_343 11h ago

All those crashed for me

3

u/Smitethepedosplease 11h ago

Your console has an issue then

“oh My gOd aRmA sUcks, cAuSE , It sUpPorts cOmMuNITY mOds, “ that’s what you sound like

6

u/GregorIsABug 14h ago

Reforger is a test bed, not a full game. Bohemia has been extremely clear about that. That's why its 40$

4

u/Ok_Engineering7660 14h ago

As a matter of fact Bohemia's words were "Reforger is a full game in its own right, but a stepping stone to ArmA4" It started as A4 anyway

3

u/No-Bid-3840 14h ago

That’s a vibe, but I do agree that vanilla is just as good these days anyway, but I do remember the frustrations of last year and how mods kept getting taken down and put back up so it was just a headache to join anything other than vanilla or maybe the Vietnam servers.

0

u/OfficialSyyn616 12h ago

is it still a burn if they're making more money for less effort? 🤔

0

u/HerArgento 6h ago

Es verdad que es una porqueria que usen IA para las skins de BF pero las de Arma son una verdadera mierda y no son para nada disfrutables. Dejense de joder en comparar juegos mamertos. Sino les gusta el juego lo desinstalan y listo. Retrasados.

-19

u/Cyberwolfdelta9 14h ago edited 14h ago

Okay Not entirely defending battlefield here but Arma is currently dealing with a severe issue of AI mods

18

u/Intelligent_Lynx2984 14h ago

What do player made mods have to do with company’s games

27

u/Sky_guy_17 14h ago

Yeah, AI mods. Bohemia actual doesn’t have much control over how much AI goes into user-made mods. They just remove them from the workshop if they violate the EULA.

-2

u/Cyberwolfdelta9 14h ago

Unless something changed Arma Reforger just had a known modder quit cause someone used AI to steal the code and supposedly Bohemia hasn't done anything about the Theif yet

8

u/Sky_guy_17 14h ago

Realistically, what can Bohemia do? They don’t have any authority to stop that sort of thing, since it’s a third party mod. Best they can do is remove it from the workshop, but again, it has to violate EULA in order for that to happen

12

u/El-Finkers 14h ago

What's color crayon is your favorite flavor?

3

u/dkb_wow 14h ago

How are they supposed to stop players from using AI to make mods?

I guarantee you if Battlefield allowed mods, there would be a million AI created mods.

1

u/dunnowattt 6h ago

I am playing Battlefield 4 and i used chatgpt yesterday.

Fucking Battlefield 4 is ruined. Thanks Dice.

-2

u/Fearless_Tutor3050 13h ago

This is just what devs that don't care about immersion think is cool.

-8

u/Longbow92 13h ago

Ye average BF6 skin

17

u/RangeCreed 13h ago edited 13h ago

That's a mod though, has nothing to do with vanilla reforger or Bohemia.

-44

u/SSteve_Man 15h ago

all these milsims spouting platitudes but never want to make a casual arcade game with aesthetics like this
its just cheap punches without really providing anything resembling a solution.

8

u/Arideer96 14h ago

reforger is the middle ground between arma 3 and battlefield

-5

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

it still leans more into arma than anything else

4

u/dkb_wow 14h ago

Gee I wonder why Arma leans into Arma?

Who would've thought?

-2

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

i know right ?

idk what hes on about

-2

u/No-Bid-3840 14h ago

Idk why it feels like you are the only human on this thread bro but I’m with you.

-1

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

appreciate it bro

22

u/elot_2552 15h ago edited 14h ago

If only the middle ground milsim/ arcade shooter kept its authentic AESTHETIC .. now we have this

3

u/elot_2552 13h ago

Ok dice fanboys/ employees, fuck off, layoffs are cominnngg

-8

u/knotallmen 14h ago

It isn't the authenticity that is the problem for me it's the slop. Authenticity as I like to remind people here is not just modern camouflage and bushy beards (except for the oiled hegseths where that is not allowed!) but authenticity is Tactical Cat Ears, makeup, women, colored arm bands to identify which military they belong to. Basically these people are individuals and there is self expression that is not captured or celebrated in the christian fascist military slop war movies.

-1

u/No-Bid-3840 14h ago

You had me for a minute then immediately lost me, I agree with the tactical ears and gun bunny stuff as well as the bands, but makeup? I’ll tell you from experience that face paint is trained but is largely a thing of the past unless your job requires it. Also authenticity means equipment looking authentic, even if it’s a knockoff or og design, it must look natural to the setting, GR: Advanced Warfighter is a prime example of that, blending cool experimental ideas with realistic aesthetics. And to a degree that also does heavily apply to the color palette they choose, the camos are fine, weird but fine, but the colors are horrendous and look like a Bollywood take on American police and swat with the overuse of blue and black. I think overall they should start finding inspiration the same way IW did for 2019 where they DID add gun bunny stuff and referenced soldiers slapping anime chicks on their weapons and not to mention added a whole line of skins dedicated to being as authentic as possible while also adding vetfluencers to top it off and show that they knew ball.

2

u/knotallmen 13h ago

Yes there are women soldiers and they wear makeup.

-2

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

yeah sadly too many publications made too many articles about how games are the devil or whatever and now we cant have cool military dudes in a game or a bad guy thats defined as a single nation

not the target audience anymore so they arent trying to appeal to me

2

u/knotallmen 14h ago

Oh no it's not the media critics it's the big business. No one wants to offend a region of the world and endanger sales. It's like how Disney movies have toned down gay presenting characters for the Chinese and Philippines same with any other "vice" it really isn't journalism but the big businesses are happy you think it is.

1

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

listen man i just want kino factions and soldiers again thats all, go the ace combat route if you have to and make up nations but if you are gonna make up stuff atleast make it cool, the issue is that their cool is skins with ugly tats and dogshit colors

pax is the biggest fail in a shooter faction ever put in a video game, third rate factions from mid cods had more cool factor than whatever pax is.

thats all

3

u/knotallmen 14h ago

Pax is intended to not be identifiable as any nation. They are supposed to be independent because they don't want to be cancelled by a region or political group. You claimed it was it was publications but the people who have voiced criticism of this are games media. Please place the blame where it is deserved, the moneyed interests making the game. Not just the publishers and the owners but the people who were looking to their new owners, the Saudi's and Trump (Kushner)

-2

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

actually its spineless artists who dont know what they are doing, you can make a "no nation" faction work but they chose not to.

if you are gonna make a pmc or whatever you can at the very least try to to do something with them, pax is this confused mess of both SUPER ADVANCED CRAZY GEAR and then actually they have surplus older gear actually ermm.

Utterly confused completely directionless zero cohesion, they tried with the base skins they really did but they look like trash i know you you are trying to spin this as big corporate is bad or whatever. I frankly dont care about that angle because my issue lies with the exection as well as the concept. I can concede that the concept exists due to monetary forces but the execution is badly made and it detracts from the whole game visual tone.

if they really wanted to they could have just made kazahkstan a fake wannabe russia, or they could have put sweden as the head honcho as pax which would have dictated a design language color scheme and idea better than "panopticon" or whatever other squads they made since then.

i tried to like them and they kinda grew on me but they just arent cool or interesting. but the fact they play fast and loose with the gear per faction and the colors and ideas they chose for the skins do not make a lick of sense i just cannot bring myself to like the faction or the idea.

-8

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

wardogs doesnt count even if it "does have that middle ground"

i dont care about pmc slop
3 man
KOTH
and money systems

its gotta have countries conquest and kino aesthetics

2

u/elot_2552 14h ago

From what I’ve heard, Wardogs leans more to milsim MECHANICS, so won’t scratch the BF itch I have

-3

u/SSteve_Man 14h ago

its more milsim, which is fine
but its also why i dont treat it as some kind of "replacement" its a fun change of pace and it has its own ecosystem of fun stuff to do, but again its really not a casual arcade shooter

2

u/fine_cuisine h 12h ago

DICE loved throwing punches like this when they were on top but all of a sudden it's cheap and being a bad sport when it's turned the other way. What comes around goes around

2

u/SSteve_Man 12h ago

i wasnt aware of that
all am saying if they are gonna keep being haha game dumb make poopy skins atleast use the opportunity to exploit the market

0

u/StationFine9650 10h ago
