Hey guys,
I recently opened beta registrations for Cadenza, a streaming service for your personal music library. You drag your album folders onto the website, and Cadenza makes them available to listen from anywhere. It's what I personally daily for all my music, including Bandcamp purchases. But also the rest of my collection that I got elsewhere (CD rips, Qobuz hi-res purchases, etc). Unlike Plex or Navidrome, there's no server to run; Cadenza hosts your files, so you don't need to keep a computer running just to listen to your songs on your phone.
I built Cadenza because I want to encourage people to break free from big streamers and own their music libraries again. And selfishly, I wanted to recreate the magic of building and curating a personal library, like from the iPod days, but with modern conveniences I'm spoiled by. It nails that by speaking OpenSubsonic, making Cadenza compatible with any Subsonic app, many of which support downloading your library for offline listening offline. And Cadenza natively supports scrobbling your listening history to ListenBrainz!
Cadenza is free during the beta, and all accounts get 25GB of storage just for signing up. Some obligatory warnings, though:
- It's actually a beta! It has rough edges, and while I replicate your data across two data centers, Shit Happens™. It's not ready to be the only place that holds your music files. (It's what I do, though.)
- It's a bootstrapped indie outfit with just me at the helm. I build Cadenza and personally respond to every email, but progress grinds to a crawl when I catch a cold 🙂
- It'll have to become a paid service after it leaves beta. I haven't figured out pricing yet, but I'd like to make the price accessible while keeping running costs reasonable. And beta testers will have the biggest impact on what a post-beta Cadenza will look like.
I'd be honored if you'd give Cadenza a shot, despite those issues. Let me know how it works for you; happy to answer any questions.
Thanks,
Jason 🙇♂️
