This is a story me and my friend is working on and I wanted to get some advice and see if people like it.
I wasn’t always the high-spirited, self-courageous, unfazed Natsuki my friends think I am. Let’s just say I didn’t have a very good childhood, but first, let me tell you about me.
I have brown hair and brown eyes, wolf ears, and a quirk called bright light. Sorry I don’t have much info on me, but that’s basically my life right now, except that my bio parents are Mirko and Best Jeanist. I was born to Mirko and Best Jeanist, but to protect Mirko and his career, he was forced to lie to Mirko that I died so that he could leave me, so that they couldn’t get blackmailed by my monster of a fake mother.
Now that we’ve covered my birth, let's get to my childhood, shall we? Around the time my dad left, my wicked mother did the most unforgivable thing imaginable; she injected me so I would manifest her quirk instead of one Mirko had, or Best Jeanist's, or both of them combined. All I remember about being a baby is that I would hear her yelling at somebody in the house or on the phone a lot. Then you get to the part where I am just a little kid; that's when my life gets a little rough. As I said, I didn’t have a good childhood, but I didn’t go through it alone. I had Ryka Tyka, who has been my best friend since I was a child. One time, I was training with my mother, if I could even call her that. I tried so hard, but it might be better to show you what happened.
“Alright, go,” my mother said as I rushed forward to close the gap as I got ready to throw a blinding shot, but my mother dodged to the right. She spun me and pushed me to the ground. “Tch… you’re pathetic at this.” My mother said as she snarled at me, holding my arm behind my back, while my head was against the tile floor.
“Bu… but I thought I had you,” I said with a hint of frustration.
“No, you want to know why you didn’t? Because you’re weak, just like your father! That’s why he left, because you're weak!” My mother said as she grabbed me by the hair, dragged me to the closet, then threw me in, bruises and all, before she locked me in the closet.
“Wait, Mother, don’t leave me in here, please…” I said with a desperate plea.
“You’ll never get into UA, and you’ll never be a hero until you learn to do better and not be pathetic,” my mother said with disgust as she continued talking before she walked away. “I wish I never chose you to be my daughter.”
I cried myself to sleep before Ryka found me as she unlocked the door with her vines, and she shielded me with her wings. For some reason, I had that little kid's never-give-up determination; I kept trying because I believed, deep down, that my mother loved me, but no, she didn’t.
Then came the last time I ever believed that, the one time my mother showed the true colors of her heart:
“Mother?” I said, walking into the kitchen. Mother was tapping on the phone when I said her name, then I yelled, “MOTHER!”
She looked over at me with an annoyed glare. “What? Can't you see I'm on the phone, brat?”
“I- yes. I'm sorry, but can you come into my room? I want to show you something. It will only take a minute.” I said with pleading eyes.
She groaned and rolled her eyes. “Fine…” I had her sit on my bed and explained every detail of how I would be a hero, then she sat up and threw it at the wall with a smash. “Why don't you get it? You can't be one! You don't have the money! Why can't you grow up already! You won't be like your father! You'll never go pro!” She said with a sigh, “You'll never learn. So I have to make you." As she said that, she beat me up till I lay on the floor, then left.
After that, I ran to the person who cared, Ryka. Fast forward to middle school, things were really starting to look up, sort of. My mother was the same, but I wasn’t alone. I had my best friends Ryka and Jeskai, who protected me from my mother when they came over. Ryka would shield me with her wings, and Jeskai would use his chainweight quirk to claw chain to force my mom to become immobile and unable to do anything. And for once in my life, I felt safer with them around.
Then one day in class, the teacher asked, “Who wants to go pro? I'm guessing all of you are right?” Everyone raised their hands enthusiastically, then the teacher looked at me with a warm smile and asked, “Natsuki, don’t you want to get into UA High School?” Everyone turned to stare at me.
Laughter arose from the class that made me want to be so invisible, then Ryka slammed her hand and said as her wings spread.
“Hey! Don't laugh at my best friend! If you laugh at her, you're laughing at me, and I tell you, you don't want to laugh at me.” She said, and a low growl resonated through the room as she glared at the class with a cold stare that made everyone stop laughing.
After class, all three of us walked home together. “Hey guys… do you think I'll get into UA?”
“Of course you will, Natsuki. You're really strong and smart; you can do anything.” Ryka said, waving across the street.
Jeskai was a little nervous before he spoke up, “Natsuki?”
I looked at him. “Yes?”
Jeskai got his courage and said, “Will you be my girlfriend?”
I answered without hesitation, without realizing it, “Yes.” I said without realizing it.
“Wait… really?” “Yes… I-I was waiting for you to ask me… You may be a quiet one, but you know how to get a girl to like you.” I said, blushing.
Then our eyes met, and my ears twitched as he leaned close, and then we kissed. From that moment on, I told him who my biological dad was. He was surprised to hear it was his favorite pro hero, Best Jeanist, and then he was determined for him and me to get into UA together. He got into UA, but he was put in General Studies, and he soon transferred to Class 1-A after the Sports Festival and the villain attack against the hero Killer Stain with Deku, Shoto, and Lida.
Soon after the attack, both Jeskai and I got to know Deku and learned about what happened with him and Bakugo in middle school. I decided right then and there that I wasn’t going to let Bakugo bully him anymore, and soon Bakugo backed off.
Soon trouble stirred between Uraraka and Jeskai. “Hey, Quiet Feet, why are you hanging around Deku a lot? Do you- do you like him more than a friend?”
I chuckled a little at this while Deku waved his hands at Uraraka to stop, a bit embarrassed, but Jeskai calmly explained that I was his girlfriend and that Deku was just a dear friend who understood him and knew they could depend on each other.
“Oh! I'm so sorry, Jeskai! My mistake; I shouldn't have let my jealousy cloud my judgment!” Uraraka said in an embarrassed tone.
“It's okay, I understand,” Jeskai said calmly, then Uraraka turned to me.
“I'm very sorry to you, Natsuki. I should have guessed you were with such a nice person as Jeskai-kun.”
“It's okay; you just need an understanding,” I said calmly. A month later, our class got a new transfer student.
As Aizawa said, “Quiet down, class. Today we are getting another transfer to our class. Introduce yourself.” As the new transfer was introducing herself, Aizawa interrupted the new student with a glare, “You better stop hiding your dragon features right now, or I will use my quirk on you, Ryka.”
Jeskai and I were shocked to find out it was Ryka, as her shadow dragon features became visible as she was wearing a scarf similar to Aizawa's.
Bakugo snarled a little in a condescending tone, “Why do you have a scarf similar to his, extra?”
Ryka lets out a low growl at him, “That's none of your business, Sparky… don't worry about it…”
Bakugo mutters a little as he looks at Aizawa, “Why did you allow a freaky extra, with freaky wings, to be in this class? We already have enough freaks and extras in this class.” Bakugo gets knocked out by a shadow dragon spike that landed on his neck, which released a toxin that put him to sleep as his face hit his desk.
Ryka growls a little, "No one gets to harass me or the people I care about… stupid angry Pomeranian.”
As the class was shocked, Aizawa spoke in an unsurprised tone, “You can take the seat next to Natsuki… and avoid doing that again if possible.”
Ryka gets calm as she heads to the seat. “No promises there, Aizawa.”
Ryka sits by me, and we continue on with class when the alarms start ringing as there is a villain attacking. Ryka immediately followed Aizawa to go see what villain it was, despite being told to stay. Jeskai and I followed as well, and we saw it was my ex, Tetshi Kitshi (Also known as the Puppet Master).
Tetshi noticed me and gave a creepy smile as he spoke, “Well, well, if it isn’t my favorite puppet toy… Are you ready to be mine again or still throwing a temper tantrum?”
Ryka looked at me with a concerned look. “What does he mean by that, Natsuki? Why did he call you a puppet?”
I was speechless and went to get away from him to avoid being mind-controlled. Tetshi went to stop me, but Aizawa intervened as Tetshi knocked him out, and at that moment Ryka got pissed off, and Tetshi ended up hanging upside down from the ceiling by shadow tendrils. As Tetshi struggled to get free, he called for his minion to free him. I noticed the girl coming, and Jeskai had used Claw Chain to make her immobile as he stayed by my side, and Tetshi ended up in a cocoon of shadows.
Tetshi spoke through the cocoon, “What are these stupid things surrounding me…”
Tetshi shut up with prey-like fear as Ryka let out a low growl behind him; her eye color went red as she was pissed.
“You better shut up because you hurt people I care about, and you’re going to suffer before going to prison… I haven’t had a test subject to play with in a while…” Ryka says this while snarling.
Ryka proceeded to knock Tetshi out, and he woke up in jail with some concerning marks on his body as he felt weakened, like his life force was drained. Back with us, a student from the support class came out and saw that Ryka was pissed, so they went to calm her down before someone died.
Aizawa woke up, sat up, and let the student calm her down as he spoke, “Where is the villain Ryka… and why is Kyon by you?”
Kyon looked at Aizawa while calming Ryka down. “He was knocked out, and I had Ryka teleport him to jail so that she didn’t kill him… so that happened…”
Ryka stayed quiet as she was calming down, and she looked at me and Jeskai, who was staying by my side. “Who was he, Natsuki… and what is his quirk?”
I gathered myself as I started to talk, “He is my ex, and his quirk is called enchanted magic…” I noticed that the others were shocked and confused, so I decided to explain how his quirk worked: “His quirk allows him to get anything he wants by using his charm, and he makes you ‘happy’ by mind-controlling you, and if you are under his mind control for a long time, he can make a puppet of you to control you.”
Ryka looked at me and spoke with a low growl, “So he's basically a goody-goody person who is also a villain because he didn’t have a perfect childhood?”
I spoke in a shocked tone, “He just wanted to be happy in life… that’s all he wanted.”
Ryka lets out a low snarl before speaking, “Don’t you dare try to defend him when he literally called you his puppet… he doesn’t deserve that pity.”
Kyon goes to calm Ryka down: “Calm down, babe… before you hurt someone.”
Ryka calms down, and after a little bit, we all went back to class, and everything was normal again… somewhat. After a few weeks, Mirko found out that I was her biological daughter, and Aizawa was in the middle of a class while drinking coffee as usual.
Mirko kicked the door down with a bang as she rushed in and asked, “Where is she? Where is my daughter?”
My light illusion turned off, and my ears became visible as everyone let out a gasp of shock.
Mirko rushed to my desk, sobbing, “I didn’t know… Hakanada told me you died; he told me you were dead to protect me from the blackmail. I didn’t know, I didn’t know…”
By this time, Ryka and Jeskai were out of their seats, blocking her from getting to me, while Mina and Momo were jumping out of their seats.
Jeskai speaks up calmly, “She needs space, and can’t you see that she’s in shock? And that she needs time to process this?”
Ryka growls a little as she speaks, “Yeah! You can’t just barge in here acting like you're a good mother, when you weren’t there for her when she was crying herself to sleep at night, asking herself what she did to deserve all the pain and suffering from a mother she thought cared about her. She needs a dependable mother, not a fake one that will never understand her.” Rykas wings were spread in front of me protectively.
Mirko stood up, wiping the tears off her face with a smile, then said, “Fine, sweetie… take all the time you need. I’ll be here for you when you need me, but from now on, no more using that light illusion to hide your ears… do you understand me?”
I spoke up in a nervous tone, “Yes, Ma’am… I understand.”
The next day I went to school without my light illusion on, once I got into the classroom everyone was saying how I looked pretty with my ears out, Mina even said they were cute. I felt confident in leaving my ears out soon after.
As I walked past Bakugo's desk, he spoke, “Hey fluff ears, just because both of your parents are pro heroes doesn't mean I am going to start going easy on you.”
I smiled thinking about the nickname as a compliment from him and said, “Thanks for the compliment Bakugo.” I said as I walked to my desk.
Bakugo got mad and yelled a little, “What the hell? That was supposed to be an insulting furball! An insulting hairball!”
I laugh a little, “hehe… whatever you say Bakugo… whatever you say.”
It was a few months later when we were watching something in the dorms when Ryka came in a little panicked, “Did you guys see Jeskai leave? He's not in his room…”
I look up at her and sigh thinking she was being dramatic as Ryka was sometimes dramatic with the tricks she pulled.
I speak with a sort of annoyed sigh, “Are you pulling a prank again? He probably went to the store this morning.”
Ryka's dragon ears were flat as she was serious and I could tell so I tried to text and call Jeskai to see where he was at, no response. When he didn’t respond Ryka used an ability as she could track him through the shadows which I stopped questioning after a while.
Ryka looks at me with a worried expression, “Tetshi escaped prison and he captured Jeskai… I am going to get him. Do you want to come with me?”
I had to think a little as I was worried for Jeskai, but I also knew that Ryka would get pissed at what we might see and make Tetshi suffer in a painful way.
I had my answer as I spoke, “I'll go with… I need to be there for Jeskai.”
Ryka does a small nod as the shadows surround us and she teleports us to the area where Jeskai was which was a rich like place for a villain. What we saw there would make you sick so I don't feel like explaining.
Ryka got pissed off because Jeskai was tied to a chair and he was hurt. Ryka goes to Jeskai as I spoke up, “Are you okay Jeskai… what happened to you?”
Jeskai looked up at me as he was more nervous than calm at the moment as he spoke, “I… I really don't want to talk about it right now…”
Ryka used an ability that let her see what Tetshi did to him and it pissed her off. We heard Tetshi coming down as Ryka does a low growl, “Natsuki, Jeskai… I am going to deal with him. I am teleporting you both out away from here.”
Before I could protest she had already teleported me and Jeskai away. We were back at the forms and
Aizawa came up to us, "What happened? And why is Jeskai hurt?”
Jeskai spoke up even though he was nervous, “The puppet master escaped jail and captured me… Ryka teleported us out of there and is currently dealing with him…”
Aizawa went silent for a little as he had to process what he was told, “You're telling me that Ryka is currently dealing with the puppet master alone?”
Jeskai and I nodded our heads yes as Aizawa sighs.
Aizawa speaks with an annoyed tone, “Of course she is… she can't help herself sometimes…”
I got confused as he was making it sound like he knew Ryka in a different way than student life, he couldn't have adopted her right? Ryka never mentioned anything like that to me.
I look at Aizawa and speak up, “Why did you react that way? I thought that she was just your student like us?”
Aizawa looks at me as he says, “There are some things that were left out of her files for a good reason, you may or may not find out.”
After a few hours Ryka had come back from doing what she did as her claws were out and had dried blood on them.
Ryka speaks as she chuckles, “He won't be bothering you for a while…”
I got worried by that statement as I spoke up nervously, “Did you kill him…?”
Ryka answers with a low chuckle, “No… but he'll wish I did… let's just say he won't be able to see ever again…”
Aizawa sighs as he wasn't fazed at all which was strange to me as he spoke, “Is he at least breathing?”
Ryka hums a little before answering, “Yeah he is, he's just currently unconscious because he also planned to capture Natsuki…”
Aizawa sighs as he accepts the response, “As long as this stays between us then I will let it slide because it can be considered self defense… somewhat.”
I heard this as I thought Aizawa went insane for letting it slide but didn't call him out because I rather not have extra work.
I looked at Aizawa as I spoke, “I am going to take Jeskai to the Recovery Girl's office so she can help him recover and heal.
Aizawa did a small nod as I helped Jeskai up and led him to go to Recovery Girl's and when we got to her office I was still thinking about how insane Aizawa was. I noticed Kyon was in the room and as soon as Jeskai sat down and Recovery Girl went to check on him I went to talk to Kyon.
I got to him and spoke, “Hey, is it just me or is Ryka sometimes insane? Because I noticed she likes to torture people.”
Kyon looked at me as he spoke, “You don't know about her past do you? I can tell because you're somewhat afraid of her… aren't you?”
I was quiet a little bit because he was right, I didn't know her past and I was somewhat afraid because I didn't know what she was capable of.
He took my silence as an answer as he spoke again, "Ryka's past is… complicated, if you ever want to know more than talk to her… her life wasn't perfect in the slightest. If you take some time to learn about her past, then you will learn why she is the way she is.”
I looked at him as I thought he was insane because he didn’t know her longer. I spoke annoyed a little, “You're insane, we all know she had a perfect life because she hasn't shown any signs that she is struggling with life, why do you claim to know her more when I am her childhood friend?”
Kyon snapped at me as he spoke, “You've known her longer? Then you would know that she struggled with a lot of health issues in the past, she was raised by killers and was trained to kill without mercy. She has been learning to show mercy and it's hard because of how she was raised. She hurts others who harm the people she cares about because it's the only way she knows how. Maybe if you took some time to understand her pain. What she went through then you will understand why she acts how she does.”
