Need help selecting an axe for my Son
I haven't thrown an axe in 20+ years, but recently I remembered how fun it was and I'm always looking for stuff to do with my Son. Long story short, I want to get him an axe so we can try/practice throwing. I think I still have mine, so I'm good, but I need help getting him setup with the right axe.
He's 11 years old and pretty average size for that age (4'8" and 71lbs (142cm and 32kg)). His strength is also pretty average.
A few more details:
- We'll be throwing on our property in a forest environment (i.e., not going to a facility that may have specific requirements)
- I want to start CHEAP - I've learned with my kids that as much as I think they'll love something, I'm usually wrong. I'm a "buy once, cry once" type, but not when it comes to the kiddos. Something I can get on Amazon for a low price would be ideal. If he's into it, I'll start looking for a local blacksmith :)
- We're in the PNW (US) and deal with a lot of rain. stainless steel would be nice, but I also know SS is a PITA in almost every other way. Maybe a synthetic handle would be a good idea?
OK, well hopefully that's enough info for someone to make suggestions.
