Who remembers the old backyard incinetator?
Growing up in the outer suburbs of Brisbane in the 1980s, it's pretty wild to think we used to burn our old trash!

No family roadtrip was complete unless there was a stop at a Golden Fleece Roadhouse.

My mum recently gifted me her recipe card box from the 1970s - the classic Australian Women's Weekly Recipe Card Library.
I've started an Instagram account and am posting all of the recipes from my mum's WW recipe card library: https://www.instagram.com/_onthecards. I'm up to set D - posting a recipe a day.
My favourites from the box:
I'd love to know people's favourite recipes and if anyone is still making meals from this set.

I remember seeing these around the place in 90s and early 00s.

I'm talking about the stuff you haven't tasted in 25–40 years but can still remember with alarming clarity.
The lunchbox treats. The ice creams. The lollies. The weird flavoured drinks. The things that tasted absolutely incredible when you were eight and probably contained enough artificial colouring to illuminate a small town.
What disappeared that you're still not over?
And if you say something that's still available, I'm going to need supporting evidence. 😂

How cool was the Australian version of Smash Hits back in the day.

Songwriter Harry Nilsson. Later, it was a hit by Three Dog Night.

Growing up, I have so many fond memories of big sleepovers at friend's houses. Sometimes it was a rumpus room or a shed. We'd play all sorts of games and get the GameCube going overnight. I remember times there were upwards of 8 kids at once.
It seems like this simply isn't a thing any more? Whilst I can understand that our social trust has eroded significantly since I was a kid, it's a shame to me that kids miss out on these experiences.

Mum would crack this out in the 80’s and god damn if I didn’t pretend I was fine!!!

Was anyone (apart from me!) that felt duped by Sea Monkeys?
I remember when I would see the advertisement on the back of my beloved Archie comic books about how these 'magical' creatures called Sea Monkeys could be your pet...you could train them to dance to music (!), you would be endlessly entertained and fascinated by them...The only problem was, they weren't yet available in Australia😔Then my dream came true! Toyworld was selling them!
I literally BEGGED my parents if I got good grades in my school report card, could I get some Sea Monkeys.
I couldn't have been more disappointed...for starters, they took over a week to hatch (!) and they looked NOTHING like this picture!
In fact, I was so disappointed that I accidentally knocked the jar off my desk...and it spilled on the carpet😧
Those poor Sea Monkeys are probably still trying to escape😆😬
It was only when I read the fine print, I saw that it said 'this is an animated characterisation' 🤔😒
This was my first experience of absolute disappointment in my childhood years😞

And they wonder how we can tell that it’s an AI generated advertisement and not a dinki-di Aussie ad that’s made by dinki-di Aussies…

One for the Gen X Aussies but first a quick story time: I was born in 1992 but during COVID I became very interested in the Challenger disaster and I’m trying to collect and archive all the coverage I can find I have the aftermath but I’m wondering if anyone anywhere has an old tape laying around that has Channel 7’s News Overnight from the day it was on after an episode of Boone called Hard to get
