Question Augusta University Parking

How strict is Augusta University parking?

I stopped by the Forest Hills campus today to use the bathroom for less than 30 minutes (enough time to claim, I’m a visitor)

Do I have to worry about getting a ticket? I live in the Augusta community, however I am not enrolled as a student.

Some of the poorest parking planning I’ve seen, bordering on incompetent. New buildings need adequate parking decks.

No, they need more robust busing in public transit in the city. The fact that they essentially require students to drive to get the classes is insane for a major university.

A parking deck would be infinitely preferable to dozens of acres of parking though.

It’s not a major university though, it’s not even a decade past being a commuter school.

Pretty serious on the health science campus, especially in the hellstar designated areas.

Park in guest parking. The library is open to the general public during daytime hours, and I've never had an issue in the guest parking by the library.

My daughter goes to the Health sciences campus and her car was towed (she was only there for one class) bc she accidentally parked in a Drs office parking space. Cost $250 to get the car back. This was about a month ago

I was at the Christenberry Fieldhouse, where there is generally plenty of parking..

I know health sciences has always been strict and limited on parking

Same here! My kid was towed as well for the same reason, and I bet the same parking lot. Then the person he dealt with at Watkins towing was an absolute asshole, so I actually filed a complaint with the consumer protection agency. They do not meet the requirements for marking those spaces as towable, it is required the space be clearly mark or every possible entrance you could get to that space have a sign, neither of those things are true. They told me it takes 6-8 weeks for them to investigate claims, so I haven’t heard anything yet, but hoping something comes of it. The tow company also couldn’t/wouldn’t give him a receipt when he paid, and that is also against their regulations. They also required cash, when they advertise they accept credit and debit cards, and that is being investigated as a possible violation as well. My kid was willing to accept he made a mistake and frustrating lesson learned, but Watkins towing crossed the line.

They weren’t nice to my daughter either. Her dad was going to fight the cost but hasn’t gotten anywhere. The saying on the trucks is “hooking for your hard earned money” 🙄

File a complaint if you believe they possibly violated any of their regulations. If enough people do, maybe something will happen. The man absolutely verbally berated my kid for waking him up when he had worked all night. My kid was calling their business number during their business hours, it isn’t his fault their business design is so poor that means someone who worked all night gets woken up, that’s their own fault.

It’s “Hooking hard for your money”. You’re twisting the words. Hooking is a wrecker euphemism for working just like “sling chains”. The expression literally translates to “Working hard for your money” meaning they are going to work hard to earn your money or if you’re paying them, they’re going to earn it through hard work.

I’m not endorsing them or associate with them. I know them, as well as every other legitimate wrecker company in the CSRA. I’ve never driven a wrecker or been a wrecker driver in my life. But you’re mischaracterizing them and twisting the words of their slogan to support that mischaracterization. You can Google the name of the business and look at nearly any photo of their trucks to confirm what I’m saying.

Nobody thinks a wrecker driver is nice when they tow their car but they didn’t call. Everyone thinks the same wrecker driver is an angel when you’re broke down, been in a wreck, stranded in the middle of nowhere, and actually call them to come get you. It’s all about perspective. Same wrecker, same driver, same company, same vehicle, just about who called and what for.

The thing is we and my kid were just accepting it as a lessons learned. Frustrating, but was what it was. No one was upset with the wrecker company. Until the person he called started shouting at him relentlessly for waking him up by calling the company number during posted business hours. That’s when the anger for the towing company emerged. Nothing to do with how the car was towed. Up until that point the wrecker company was just the person doing their job that we needed to get the car back from. Then, they insisted on cash despite saying they take debit and credit on their business signs, website, and Facebook page. Then, they refused to come release his car during their posted business hours, because they were tired from overnight, so someone would meet him an hour after their closing time. Then, the person who met him couldn’t give him a receipt or change for the cash they insisted on, because he was just a driver meeting him after hours, he isn’t an office person. How is that a decent business operating honestly?

My bad, I got it wrong. I understand the euphemism. Sure, no one likes a guy that’s towing their car but my 17 year old daughter, who is a high school senior only taking one class at AU, didn’t speak to the guy that towed her car. I was referring to when she went in to pay to get her car out.

I have video proving how unclearly they are marked in the lot of it’s the same one my kid was towed from. The lot is primarily student parking, and nothing clearly marks which spots aren’t. The online map is clear, but that’s the only place it’s clear. The person I spoke to at the consumer protections department agreed with me.

Trust! I get it. It’s a battle we’ve been dealing with for decades. When I was an undergrad, we started this FB group. I successfully appealed a couple parking tickets due to marking/signage.

I saw where she parked and see how she was confused. You don’t know my daughter so don’t assume she lied and had parked illegally before

Really depends where you are parking. Very strict on the health sciences campus. Summerville is a lot more laid back although I have seen parking enforcement on campus recently. I have never seen any sign of parking enforcement at the Forest Hills campus.

I have not been enrolled in Augusta University since 2018, so I’m not really sure if things have changed a whole lot

If you don’t attend the school or aren’t there for an event, you probably shouldn’t be on campus—especially just to stop and use a bathroom there. I’m annoyed when I have to pay to park there, but I have a kid enrolled as a student and attend events at the Maxwell regularly.

If you’re worried about a ticket, there’re stores with public bathrooms across from Daniel Field less than a mile from the school.

I was about to have an emergency and that was the closest bathroom I was encroaching on.

Again, I was there long enough to say I was “visiting”. I have not been enrolled in Augusta University since 2018 so I’m not really sure if things have changed per se.

Been there. Not judging. My best advice would be to get the AMP Park on your own phone just in case. The $4 to park is a lot cheaper than a ticket.

I used to teach there and I’d get tickets. Campus police shows up about once an hour or so

I left AU because there was no parking available. I had to steal parking spots from the cancer center patients and pay fines just to teach a class. Shame on AU
