I love this. I do think Augusta is beautiful. Pendleton King is my favorite for walking around since it's relatively close and decently large. I wish park-goers and people would take better care of it though, there's always trash and some of the structures are just old and in need of repair. I'm so thankful they got it back up and running after Hurricane Helene, I thought it might ve been gone for good. Does anyone know how to sign up to volunteer there or help gardening?

I love Pendleton King Park. I understand the history there, but when i tell locals I go there nowadays I've heard: don't get raped! , ew its sketchy , and other ridiculousness.
A colleague recently said something similar so I asked her the last time she'd been... the 1990's is the last time she'd been there 🙄 I said "y'know what, that's fine, keeps it less crowded for me to enjoy !"
Yea, it's landscape is a little scruffy and less manicured, but I'm thinking maybe that keeps the 'hoighty toighty' folks away. Lol it sounds like im gatekeeping, I'm not, im just making observations.
Yes, there is a sign on a bulletin board there, near the old military tank, which has the info about volunteering.
Personally, I'd love to fundraise for a new, big ol' playground for the kids - one for smalls and one for older kids. And to get the 'Sensory Garden' going again - I'd do that work myself! Lmk if anyone could help me with that...

I grew up in the early 00's going to P. KING park i used to live climbing the tank. It's not really that sketchy as long as you go during the day. When i was 7 years old I released my pet turtle there to give her a better life. I also fell into a cactus plant there once and that sucked. I even had a birthday party there in 4th or 5th grade. Lots of great memories there. The little fountain garden near the front is a gem spot for meditation and reading. Haven't been here in years since living in Atlanta but i hope to revisit soon.

I mean despite all the crap you get here. It is truly beautiful and livable financial wise. Im actually glad fall has finally arrived. Its still a bit warm but i rather like fall, winter, or spring than summer. Plus people can get sick out here for being in the sun too long. Unless they are use to it. Also, do they still have the geese and swans they had there years ago?
