Discussion/Question What was the importance of this scene?

Post image

Right after it shows the scene of armin and eren talking after eren dies and armin gets his memory back this scene from much earlier plays where Annie asks if armin wounds are healed. This scene seems very out of place and happens right after a big moment so surely it has significance?

Discussion/Question Mistake in AOT ending?

I’ve noticed that in the finale after mikasa kills eren she says to armin “you got ur memories back TOO right? Of the times eren reached out to talk to US”. Since mikasa is an Ackerman this would make no sense as an ackermans memory can’t be altered so why would mikasa say words like “too” and “us” as if she’s had the same experience? Is there smth I’m missing? The only other conclusion I reached is that she’s referring to the rest of the scouts but after this the scouts then announce eren spoke to them aswell so it’s unlikely she knew this before. So what are your guys thoughts?

Na minha opinião, o Eren é um dos personagens mais complexos dos animes. Ele tomou decisões terríveis, mas suas motivações eram complicadas. O que vocês acham? Ele era um herói, um vilão ou os dois?

In Akuma no ko ED, we were shown glimpses of Paradis which is Empty and Re-taken by the Nature. But nothing like such ever happened in the Show. Unlike other OPs and EDs which were basically spoilers foreshadowing the future events of the show. But nothing like such happened in the show as we were shown in Akuma no ko.

All I can think of is that this is what would have happened to Paradis had Eren refused to initiate Rumbling. Any other takes?

Discussion/Question Hot take 50%: Some shifters can beat the colossal.

Post image
76 Upvotes

Most fans look at the Colossal Titan’s sheer size and nuclear transformation and assume it’s an automatic win against anything. While that's true to some extent but it isn’t entirely true. Some shifters have chances of beating the Colossal(that is if Colossal already transformed). Excluding the founding titan.

  1. Jaw(Falco): Jaw by definition is actually the antithesis of the Colossal. Due the jaw titan being the faster especially on reflexes. While the Colossal is the slower titan. However A standard Jaw Titan (like Marcel, Ymir, or Porco) would struggle immensely. Even though they have the speed and the claw/jaw strength to bite through bone, the Colossal is simply too tall for them to reach nape. But the Falco jaw is different. Since Falco jaw can fly and with jaw speed. The Colossal Titan has zero anti air capabilities and it's reaction speed is way too low. From the sky, Falco can reach it's nape, and shred the neck before the Colossal can even turn its head. Falco ony needs more experience.

  2. Beast(Zeke): normal beast titan wouldn't due much against Colossal. But Zeke titan is different. This is actually a 50/50. Because if they're close quarter Colossal would win. But if they're far away Zeke will win. Zeke thrrowing rocks actually breaks the sound bearer, If it took down the armore(most durable titan) then it will get through the Colossal as well.

  3. War hammer: The war hammer titan is actually the only titan has chances lf beating Colossal without external factors. Since it's capable of creating any weapon. it can certainly create a weapon that can manage to reach the Colossal neg. But it all depends on the user creativity. However even if the jaw couldn't win. It will be stalemate. Since Colossal can't break the jaw cristal either.

Lastly Levi can properly beat Colossal as well, if he played his cards right.

Discussion/Question Hot take 45%: Grisha controlled the founding titan.

Post image
39 Upvotes

To use the founding titan one must clear the rule. Rule #1 the vessel must be of royal blood. Rule #2 A non-royal shifter cannot access the Founder’s active power on their own. They need physical contact with a Titan or Shifter of royal blood (as Eren did with Dina Fritz’s Smiling Titan, and later with Zeke).

Grisha met the exact required to tap into the Founder's nexus. When Grisha consumed Frieda Reiss, he acquired the Founding Titan. But as he slaughtered the rest of the royal family, he came into direct physical contact with multiple individuals of royal blood. 1. At first Grisha was merely seeing glimpses through Eren’s selective memories, Eren could have easily filtered out the worst details to manipulate his father into passing down the Titans. But after Grisha consuming the Founder briefly unlocked the true scope of the Founder’s power, he caught a direct, unfiltered look into the future that Eren tried to hide from him. Especially the "freedom panel" that Grisha was horrified from it, to point of asking Zeke to stop Eren. 2. Let's explain the The Attack Titan ability. It allows its inheritors to see the memories of future inheritors. Through Eren’s future memories, Grisha could see what Eren was seeing (which included Zeke standing in the room). However, seeing a memory from a third person perspective does not account for physical interaction. However when Grisha had the founding titan he was able to clearly see Zeke and hug him. Zeke genuinely feels the warmth of his father’s touch. it transcends simple memory viewing.

the Founding Titan controls space, time, mind, and the physical form of Eldians through the Paths. Grisha bridging that physical touch across time with Zeke fits far better with the unrestricted manipulation of the Founder than with the passive memory viewing of the Attack Titan alone. That means all the 3 members of the Yeager family at some point had control of founding titan.

Discussion/Question Hot take 40%: Mikasa isn’t shallow or one dimensional.

Post image
163 Upvotes

Alot of people don't know whats depth or dimensional layers. They water down character traits to one dimensional. They mistakes Mikasa character traits to one dimensional. Character traits doesn't ≠ dimensional layers or depth.

First off what's depth? A character depth is how meaningful their ideas and philosophy are. For Mikasa, she want to be with Eren -> why because she loves him -> why Becomes he saves her heart -> because she surrendered to nihilistim -> why because her family got killed infront of her. Thats already depth and reasoning.

Or we could talk about Mikasa dualism world view.

To Mikasa the world was cruel, why? she lost her parents & without them the world is cold aka nihilism -> Why beautiful? Because Eren didn’t just save her life. He saved her heart when he wrapped the scarf around her, made her realise the world beauty-> that realization shifts Mikasa world view into dualism. Why because she acknowledged the world is cruel and beautiful also beautiful. Se how i connect Mikasa multi-layers. And this without getting into her philosophies and messages. Also a character not having development doesn't mean they're badly written. Ironically Mikasa is multi-layered more than some characters with development.

Mikasa is one of the best characters regarding emotional depth. Unfortunately not just Mikasa is misunderstood on this aspect. Even Levi people water him down to one dimensional cool aura dude when he has so much depth but that's for another discussion.

Discussion/Question Hot take 35%: Paradis government are correct.

Post image
7 Upvotes

The military leadership claimed they wanted to modernize Paradis and build alliances with friendly elements from the outside world. Yet, we see Niccolo get beat up, https://imgur.com/a/yxIfkZT

The dude literally just went to visit Sasha grave. Not to mention Niccolo is one of the few volunteers who genuinely grew to love Eldian people and culture through Sasha’s. It mirrors the exact same paranoia and dehumanization that Marley inflicted on the internment zones. Instead of breaking the cycle of cruelty, the Paradis military simply inverted the roles, treating outsiders with immediate, institutionalized malice.

When Erwin and the ones who orchestrated the coup against Rodd, their goal was to replace the tyrannical, self serving fake royal government with a legitimate sovereign who actually cared about the people, and the they literally told the citizens they're not doing military rule https://imgur.com/a/HfovnTj

Under Erwin’s vision, Historia’s coronation successfully united the citizen https://imgur.com/a/rPFioFX

because she was active, compassionate, and worked directly with orphanages and the common folk. However, once Zachary and the military elite fully consolidated power, they relegated Historia back to being a political object for them to rule expose military rule within paradi https://imgur.com/a/RLzXZGD

espite them making oath to the citizens that they goal isn't military rule https://imgur.com/a/TdwFg3D

this is the exact same utilitarian exploitation that Rod Reiss and the old nobility practiced. They just wore uniforms instead of crowns. Putting a puppet king while they use their own ideas under the king/queen name.

The military government’s decision to hide information regarding Eren from the leadership of the Survey Corps was a fatal political miscalculation

https://imgur.com/a/7l7lNFR

While keeping Eren under wraps from the general public due to his volatile behavior is strategically understandable, cutting out Hange the Commander of the Survey Corps was betrayal. Hange deserve to know a decision regarding one of her members, not to mention Hange was the intellectual backbone of the military. By freezing Hange out, the military proved they trusted paranoia and control more than they trusted their own highest ranking officers. Yeah they don't trust scouts members because they're close to Eren. But regardless they should at least they should inform Hange. She's a higher ranking and leader of the scouts, like imagine them hiding something as important as this from Erwin.

After the coup, the new military government explicitly promised transparency swearing to the citizens that they would never hide the truth the way the old royal government did. https://imgur.com/a/ENpMd3L

But when the government started to hide information, that's what caues the raise of Yeagerist https://imgur.com/a/SZEjlRp

as well as most of the citizens started to distrust the government https://imgur.com/a/RZWRjX5

They view the government as power hungry and Eren as their savior. Please let's view this dilemma through " The Citizen’s POV" Put yourself in the shoes of a citizen in Wall Maria. You lost your home, suffered years of famine, and watched countless people die. Then, a kid named Eren uses titan powers to plug the wall, retake Shiganshina, and prove there is a whole world out there trying to eradicate you. To the average and most wall maria citizen, Eren isn't just a soldier, he is the savior who gave them their future back. But The Final Straw is when they discovered the government lied, broke their oath of transparency, and plotted to quietly eliminate their savior (Eren), the citizens didn't see a responsible leadership they saw a corrupt, paranoid regime trying to maintain absolute control.

Ultimately the fall of Paradis government is done by none other than the government themselves. Honestly tho it was just a matter of time before Eren turn on them.

Discussion/Question Hot take 30%: End of uprising arc has the best positive development.

Post image
80 Upvotes

In storytelling terms, there's Positive Character Arc / Regeneration and a Negative Corruption Arc. In Eren case he's character keep shifting between the two through out the seasons. Before the Reiss Cave, Eren was trapped in a toxic psychological loop. Squad Levi, Hannes, dozens of Scouts.people kept dying solely to protect him. Eren internalized this, believing he had to be humanity's savior to justify all those sacrifices. When Rod Reiss reveals that Grisha stole the Founding Titan and slaughtered the royal children, Eren’s identity completely shatters. He realizes he wasn't special his dad just murdered the royal family to give him the Titan. That he has no way of knowing how to use. He begs Historia to eat him because he genuinely started believing his existence has no value. This was the absolute rock bottom of his self worth. Even after Historia saved him, he was still just depressed. Like he literally ingored Jean when Jean tried to ragebait him. https://imgur.com/a/0LlEMQK

Before that they used to fight like oil & water.

When they made Keith Shadis and Keith recounts Carla’s words to Eren, it triggers the most crucial psychological shift in Eren's life. "Must he be special? He doesn't need to be better than anyone else... Look at him, he's so cute! He's already special, because he was born into this world." This single memory completely reframes Eren’s view of existence. Eren realizes his life has value not because he is a "savior," or "humanity's hope," that need to carry the whole burden. but simply because he exists as a human being. This realization leads directly to the healthiest version of Eren we ever see in the series. Like the dude started to openly admits to Mikasa that he was jealous of her and Levi, displaying a level of emotional honesty he never showed before.

That lead him to adapt stoicism philosophy accepting his limitations. He realizes everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and no one can carry the whole burden alone not even Levi or Mikasa. We also see him going back into fighting with Jean like he used to. All that is thanks to Carla, which is why he said he was glad to talk to Keith mainly because he told him of his Mother words "He is special because he was born into this world" honesty tho Carla impact on Eren is unmatched.

Analysis Marley is dumber than Kegsbreath

Post image
176 Upvotes

Zeke was able to get a squad of Marleyan soldiers carrying a substantial amount of equipment across the island of Paradis and through a titan infested Wall Maria (and no, he can't control the titans of Paradis because they weren't created by him, as if his control is even 100% effective), yet people still act like it was impossible or didn't make sense for Marley to send some sort of adult Marleyan supervisor trained in espionage to assist the four twelve year old kids carrying 66% of Marley's most valuable military assets on their multiyear infiltration and espionage mission, even though said supervisor would be more expendable, more level headed, more adept at intelligence gathering and decisionmaking, less prone to leaking sensitive information, and could ensure the warriors stay loyal and on target.

Discussion/Question Hot take 25%: RBA are not justified during trost onwards.

Post image
29 Upvotes

Their first attack on Shiganshina was understandable even justified to some extent. Because they were kids. But during trost they were not brainwashed at that point they know what's right and wrong. Riener was 17, thats not young kid anymore. The problem is they intend to destroy walls Rose(if Eren titan didn't appear) that would kill more people. The Fall of Wall Maria Led to the loss of 1/3 of human territory and over 250,000 human lives (roughly 20% of the population), mostly due to the military sending civilians on a suicidal "reclamation mission" because of severe food shortages. If Wall Rose would have fallen. The loss of Wall Rose would have squeezed the entire surviving human population into the cramped, resource starved confines of Wall Sina. they fully knew the consequences are but were still fully committed to do it anyway. Mostly for their own selfish reasons. I would say that's comparable to Eren attack on Liberio. He did mostly to continue for his selfish reasons(yeah he has other motives too, but that's another discussion)

Isayama structures the story so that we see the Warriors' severe PTSD, guilt, and broken mental states after the fact. Reiner’s split personality, Annie’s crystal isolation, and Bertholdt’s silent agony make them deeply compelling, tragic characters. However, tragedy does not equal justification. Experiencing extreme guilt for a crime while actively continuing to commit that same crime doesn't absolve the perpetrator. They knew the Paradisians were innocent, they knew the casualty count would be catastrophic, and they kicked the hole in Trost anyway.

Discussion/Question Hot take 20%: Eren & Mikasa lack understanding one another.

Post image
153 Upvotes

Eren and Mikasa don't really understand each other. Despite them loving one another. Mikasa doesn't understanding Eren nature, and Eren doesn't understand Mikasa's heart either. Mikasa have been shown multiple times not understanding Eren. Mikasa literally accepted Zackly words of Eren is being manipulated by Zeke. https://imgur.com/a/9zT0Ac6 Because she couldn't accept that Eren is doing thing's on his own will https://imgur.com/a/V7A9SAl

We even saw her latter on question her understanding of Eren "what part of Eren had I been seeing?"

Eren also doesn't understand Mikasa's heart. He can't comprehend why she goes to search extends for him. He compared her associate with him to his obsession of freedom. Not just that, He even asked Zeke about Ackermans mainly to try understand her feelings. Even at the end Eren tells her to "be free," it's like he still mistake it to his obsession for freedom. While Mikasa did understand Eren but that was at the very end.

Their tragedy could've been avoided if the understood one another and maybe open to each other. I feel that's what the Cabin supposed to be that. their tragedy was avoidable, but only if both had been capable of stepping out of their own psychological prisons to truly see and talk to one another.

People who claim their romance is "badly written" are often looking for a standard, functional romance built on healthy communication and mutual clarity. What Isayama wrote instead was a gothic, tragic miscommunication. The tragedy isn't that they didn't love each other, the tragedy is that love alone wasn't enough to bridge the gap between two people whose fundamental views on existence were completely incompatible. Eren was a fire that burned everything to be free, and Mikasa was the hearth trying to keep the fire contained so it wouldn't destroy them both. That's what makes their dynamic so beautiful written.

Discussion/Question Was Erens founder at full power?

Probably a dumb question to some of you but I wondered if he was at full power since; it was established that having your spine broken makes the titan come out wrong during the reiss debacle, and since he has no spine attached when being caught by Zeke that certainly has to affect him no? Or is it "optional" since Zeke is still in one piece and they fuse into the founder? Or is it not important since he does not have the royal blood which is needed?

Discussion/Question Why was Eren limited in using his time powers? Did the writers even realise the powers he had?

To use the Founding Titan's powers one had to have been a descendant of Ymir and had to have had royal blood (the latter of which is stupid because all Subjects of Ymir are descendants of Fritz and Ymir making them all equally capable of wielding the power. They all have royal blood because Ymir only ever had kids with Fritz and her daughters all had royal blood and thus their descendants will also have royal blood). Eren manager to by-pass that requirement by convincing Ymir to stand with him. That's all well and good.

My problem comes with him using his powers. Since he could manipulate the past and see the future he could've literally done as he liked and created a perfect world for himself and his friends. Instead of Bertholdt, Reiner and Annie destroying the wall he could've had them reveal everything once they entered and he could've made everyone believe it by simply altering their memories. This would've saved them a lot of trouble. We also know the timeline works weirdly in AoT because Grisha ate Frieda because of Eren but for Eren to be in that situation Grisha had to have eaten Frieda first, so a grandfather paradox. Him saying "Because I'm an idiot" is such a cop-out. That just doesn't make sense. It's like the writers forgot the powers he had and realised too late into the manga deadline. They could've easily fixed it in the anime because they had time and reviews online.

Eren said that all futures he tried ended up leading to 80% of the world's population to die but that's just not possible.

The saying "Characters are only as smart as the writers." really shows here. Anyone with a brain would've just created the perfect world for themselves. Since he could see the future he could've gotten future technology back in time and he could see what influence it would've had on the timeline. Simple things such as this were overlooked. I loved everything about this show until the final part. Basic time powers were overlooked and the justification was "I am stupid."

Discussion/Question Hot take 15%: Zeke is better final antagonist for Eren & the story more than Riener.

Post image
61 Upvotes

Reiner and Zeke serve fundamentally different narrative purposes. Reiner is Eren’s narrative mirror. They share the same trauma, the same drive, the same realization that "across the ocean, inside the walls, we are all the same." Reiner’s role is to force Eren and the audience to confront the horror of doing bad things while understanding it is bad. Riener has no vision for how to fix the world beyond doing what he is told. Because he's ideology is written to be weak, and unsustainable. he embodies the tragic tragedy of a child soldier whose worldview was manufactured by others. Zeke on the other hand come up with his own solutions, to solve the titan crisis the Euthanasia Plan. He actively manipulates Marley, the Eldian Military, and to reshape world history. Zeke’s ideology is written to be strong, airtight, and logical within his own frame of, making him a true philosophical antagonist. Zeke acts as an ideological foil to Eren idealogy. Zeke argues "It would have been better if we were never born," Eren argues "Because I was born into this world" Reiner cannot participate in this. because he is too broken by his guilt to answer either side, he simply wants the suffering to stop, but has no framework for how to stop it for humanity. Reiner is not part of this thesis/antithesis debate, he is caught in the crossfire.

Before anyone says Eren is antagonist. Antagonist ≠ bad, & protagonist ≠ good eitherm Antagonist is the one opposing the protagonist, and protagonist is the one the entire story revolves around.

Isayama himself described Eren as the protagonist. Because the entire story revolves around Eren.

https://imgur.com/a/krp5aA4

Isayama never refer to Eren as antagonis, makes sense because Eren can't be antagonist. Unless you want to split Eren into two and have them fight one another.

Discussion/Question Hot take 10%: Hange death wasn't useless.

Post image
100 Upvotes

People can argue that her death wasn't necessary, while that might be true. But her death is more thematically rather than was it necessary or not. Hange death doesn't just symbolizes illuminating the way for the alliance. It also serves as reclaiming the wings of freedom. By the final arc, the concept of "freedom" had been corrupted by the Yeagerists into global genocide and radical nihilism. Floch and the Jaegerists argued that survival required total subjugation to fear and hate. The yeagerist have completely misunderstood the concept of wings of freedom that OG scouts carried. Not just that but the yeagerist action towards paradi citizens doesn't alien with the OG scouts behavior towards paradi citizens. Sasha is a fallen comrade instead of honor her. The yeagerist literally imprisoned Sasha family despite them not taking part in conflicts. That goes against what the OG scouts stand for. because the OG scouts always carry the dreams and legacy if their fallen comrades. Hange death act as reclaiming that legacy, and Isayama showing us Hange along side all the OG together on afterlife/paths is essentially confirming that Hange carried the real spirit of the Survey Corps to the end. Not the yeagerist.

Yeagerists fans I swear I'm not hating on yeagerist, nor saying who's right or wrong. I'm just pointing out my thoughts.

Discussion/Question Hot take 5%: Armin & Annie conceptually is great, the problem is it's execution.

Post image
441 Upvotes

Conceptually their dynamic is great, it thesis on human connection amidst the circle of violence. Armin and Annie represent two fundamentally opposing world view, they're like Yin &Yang. Annie views humanity as inherently selfish, cowardly, and flawed. Her philosophy is self-preservation. Armin sees the worst of humanity but desperately searches for the intrinsic value in life even in small moments. Annie flows with the current because fighting it feels pointless. Armin fights against the current, holding onto faith in communication, understanding, and hope. Their dynamic could explore many things. But it's badly executed. if you remove their romance entirely, the main plot moves forward unchanged. If their dynamic had forced either character to fundamentally alter their philosophical approach to the final war, it would have been essential. Instead, it plays out as a side romance wrapped up in a story that had no time left to breathe.

I personally don't hate but don't like it either I wished to see more of it.

Discussion/Question Hot take 0%: Falco deserve more spotlight.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Gabi gets the heavy spotlight because she mirrors Eren’s external trajectory, the indoctrination, the burning rage, the traumatic loss, and the slow, painful unlearning of hatred.

Falco, however, was designed to parallel both Armin’s empathy and Mikasa’s devotion:

Falco is structured as the ultimate thematic counterpart to the cycle of violence, yet his actual narrative real estate gets swallowed whole by Gabi’s bombastic character arc.

Falco enters the story already possessing the emotional maturity and empathy that Gabi has to spend 30 chapters acquiring. Because he starts off "already understanding," Isayama treated him as a stable dynamic rather than a growing force. He became the emotional anchor for Gabi's arc rather than the protagonist of his own. Falco was essentially gifted the purest heart in a story built on cruelty, but he was relegated to being Gabi’s moral tether and the Alliance’s getaway flight rather than a fully realized dual-protagonist of the Marleyan side.
