I just rented a house for the winter and moved in 2 weeks ago. I'm looking to buy somewhere come the spring, so this is temporary for me. The landlord turned up this afternoon and announced that someone is coming to paint all the exterior windows on Monday at 7am.
I am disabled and work from home. I also have a cat, and we have been living in Airbnb's all summer - about 10 different places. (This was not the plan to move the cat so much) I've moved to Sweden from the UK because of my disabilities.
I have sensory issues, and I'm also really ill and need to rest. Moving here was supposed to be the last move, so i could rest and recover for 6 months. The painting means that the whole house will smell, possibly for weeks because it's cold and wet, so it won't dry quickly, and I can't air it because it's too cold to have the windows open. This means I can't stay in the house, and I've told the landlord and requested he pay for alternative accommodation.
Apparently, he arranged the work before I moved in and just didn't tell me. I would have rented another place if I'd known.
I don't know what my rights are here in Sweden. 1 working days notice seems completely unreasonable. Especially when it means I have to take time off work and arrange alternative accommodation. The stress has already caused some of my health issues to flare up, and if they come on Monday to do the work and I'm here, the stress will likely cause me to have seizures. I need my home to support me to manage my disabilities.
I don't know what to do!
