This is our 14 year old bull terrier. Shes a loving and sleepy girl but still does a couple of zoomies a day when she’s excited for dinner. Recently she’s started doing head thrashing a lot more and more vigorously. She did used to do it a little bit. Does anyone know what the cause of this could be/has experience with their dog doing this?

🦷 Dental Health Is My Shelter Dog Really 2? His dental health makes me think he may not be...

My dog who I just recently adopted from Texas was listed as born in 2024, making him 2, but he has severe dental issues that I only found out about when he arrived, when I was able to check his teeth in person (I planned and still plan to brush them regularly).

He had so much tartar build up on his back teeth that I booked him an exam immediately and the vet we saw today thinks we'll likely need to do an extraction of a few of them (Id get pictures but hes feeling discomfort and sensitivity there so Im not going to mess with them for that, but when I did look they were VERY clearly covered in tartar in the back.)

I dont mind if he IS maybe older than I thought when I got him, I just want to know what other people think? He's got white fur by his whiskers too which my old dog had as he got older, but he's also just got some white fur here and there with his coloring so I didnt think much of it...

I wish I asked the vet at the time but it didnt hit me until I got home that it was weird his teeth were so bad if hes as young as the rescue said he was. He came from a neglectful house, was rescued after owners were hospitalized and he was left at the property with two labradors. He is a chihuahua mix.

My poor sweet girl has been coughing like this along with having frequent sneezing fits for quite some time now. When I asked my vet about it they said it's probably just seasonal allergies but after how much time has passed and she still does it I'm not sure about that. She's between 12-13 years old and about 11 pounds. She doesn't have any previous history with health issues, either. I need to make her a new vet appointment to re-discuss it but bills and rent and other expensive things keep getting in the way. She doesn't seem to have any abnormal amount of eye discharge and her personality is the same as it's always been, she doesn't seem depressed or lethargic.

Does this look like a cat scratch

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! So I noticed this scratch when I was taking a shower and the hot water stung a bit. And I don’t know where it possibly came from or how old it is. I worry about whether it’s a cat scratch, but it doesn’t look like a typical cat scratch and I didn’t feel anything scratch me to my knowledge bc I would’ve been reactive. 2 hours ago, I was walking to the store and from the corner of my eye I noticed a cat 3 feet away from me and I kept walking and looked back and it was in the same spot. The abrasion is located above my ankle of the inside on my leg. And I was wearing long sweatpants, put I didn’t see any nail marks from a cat. Does this look like a cat fresh scratch or an already healing abrasion? Also when I took this photo the minor scrape was already flat.

Behavioral Advice

Hello everyone,

My roommate and I have had a recent problem develop with our dog and I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

My roommate owns a 4 year old, unspayed, female German Shepard and recently she’s developed, what seems to me, like anxiety.

Over the last week or so she’s been crying, pacing, and just seems to be in a lot of distress. Historically she would cry at the door briefly after we left, but would eventually settle down and sleep until we returned home. She would also previously whine whenever my cats would play and run around the house.

Now she is crying constantly and pacing around the house with this one specific toy in her mouth. She is continuing to cry at the door when we leave for work, but now it is genuinely upsetting to hear how distressed she sounds when we walk out. When we check the pet cam during the day, she is sitting on the couch and howling and the same toy is usually sitting next to her.

My roommate took her to the vet this afternoon and her physical exam and bloodwork were all normal. We are currently waiting on the results of a urinalysis to rule out a UTI. The vet did also not see any signs of a false pregnancy or pyometra.

There have been some environmental and routine changes. Our second dog recently passed away this past June, and I recently started a new job within the last month that is field-based when I previously worked from home. The German Shepard did not necessarily seem to be phased when our other dog first passed away, but I’ve heard dogs can experience delayed stress responses. The vet did say that a grief response being this prolonged is unusual, but I’m not sure if my not being home anymore could have triggered that.

The other odd thing is that she still cries after we arrive home. She will eventually settle down but it takes a little while. Our return does not seem to bring any immediate relief. I’m not sure if she’s having trouble regulating and self-soothing after being upset all day or what.

I personally feel that the vet was very dismissive of the possibility of her developing separation anxiety, even after explaining the recent changes, and so far nothing seems to be physically wrong with her.

She only cries in the house. She seems perfectly content on her walks and was fine in the car and in the vet’s office today. I’m just not sure how to help her. I hate that she’s been so upset recently and honestly feel like the vet and my roommate are being very passive in terms of problem solving.

She’s been eating and drinking normally. She doesn’t seem to be straining or experiencing any pain when urinating. There’s been no aggressive behaviors at all.

I just want to help her feel better. Has anyone experienced this before or have any thoughts on what could be going on?

No ER Vet near me.. dont know if im overreacting but i just wanna cry

My baby girl Roo is having some kind of issue with her eyes. Earlier today, I noticed that her left eye was squinty, red, and watery. It has gotten worse over the course of the day and now her other eye is starting to get squinty and red as well. She is also acting slightly lethargic. Every place near me says its closed via google and the nearest open place is 2 hours away. I just wanna cry. She is miserable and idk what to do.

She will be 4 years old in December. Shes a lab/husky mix. Ive had her since she was around 6 weeks old. She got all her shots up to 6 months old when her previous vet gave her the last of her "puppy shots" ig you would call them. She is due for rabies vaccine though. She lives with one other small elderly dog and her kitten sister. She also has a pretty large yard she runs in that is partially on the side of a mountain. I suspect shes gotten something in her eye or maybe the cat scratched her during play. She doesnt have contact with other dogs and shes only outside a short time usually to potty

Has anyone had positive experience with such a veterinary surgeon (by positive I mean you felt that they did the best job they could under the circumstances). Thank you!

Onion Soup

My 10month old Basenji got into our compost and ate week old french onion soup which had been discarded. We caught her and immediately called the emergency vet who instructed us how to induce vomiting. Within 30-45min of ingesting the onions, she vomited four times. The first incident of vomiting had all the onions, very few in the second instance and the third and fourth instances were white foamy water and light yellow tinge (suspecting bile).

This occurred at 12:00pm, she is acting completely normal now. The vet instructed us to offer her some rice and water around 4:00pm.

I am an emotional and anxious mess. We live in a tiny, remote island, there is no comprehensive vet care here. We are flying to the mainland on a pre-planned trip with her Monday (we always take our dogs on vacation with us) and have contacted the mainland vet who will see her and do a blood test to ensure she is okay.

Can someone tell me straight and true, will she be okay?

🧬 Diagnosis Help Spot on belly 13 wk old Boxer

Any idea what this could be on our 13 week old boxer girl - it’s seem to have gotten a bit worse. When I try to wipe it off, it looks like when you’d wipe dried blood - kind of brownish flakes. It feels smooth to the touch and not like scabs. It’s only on her belly. I have a call in to make an appt but just wanted to get others opinions.

2 year old calico. I've only seen this happen to her 3 times and it's only lasted about 2-3 minutes each time. Granted I'm not sure how many times it's happened when I'm not home.
She will go from completly normal, to laying down, disassociating , but still able to follow my movement/ motivated for treats. But unable to walk normally due to back legs acting like they're asleep/stiff? After a few minutes she's completly back to normal. Playful & eating and drinking normally too.

I do have plants but she's only nibbled on one once when she was a kitten & doesn't even notice or touch them now. And I've checked & none of my plants have bites or anything.
