General Politics What do you think about this article from the American Conservative comparing Denmark to the US?

Article: America Can Learn from Denmark on Good Government

TLDR:

  • Context: Sitting in a Copenhagen coffee shop, he finds himself worrying about retirement costs, healthcare and taxes. He concludes the people around him face those pressures far less.
  • Happiness: He cites a ranking where four of the five happiest countries are Nordic. Denmark is second and the U.S. is 24th.
  • Healthcare: Danes receive universal healthcare that usually costs them nothing at the point of care. He contrasts this with the U.S. system of Medicare taxes, copays, deductibles, multiple Medicare parts and enrollment penalties.
  • Retirement: He says Denmark’s multilevel system replaces over 70% of prior wages, with low elderly poverty. He puts U.S. Social Security at roughly 40% for the average worker. He also describes the choice of when to claim (62 versus 70) as a bet on one’s own lifespan.
  • Taxes and trust: Denmark’s tax agency pre-fills returns from third-party data, and most Danes approve them in minutes. He notes the U.S. tax code runs over 4 million words. He argues that public trust in institutions works as an economic asset.
  • Smaller items: Danes typically get five or more weeks of paid vacation, and tipping is not expected.

His conclusion: Danes get the better overall deal. Higher taxes buy broad benefits and remove much of the psychological burden of financial risk. He says what he envies is the absence of constant financial fear, not Denmark’s culture or institutional design.

What do you agree with? What do you think we should change here in the U.S.?

Law Enforcement Considering the fact that Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to get Ilhan Omar out of congress, and even out of the country, would you consider the investigation into Omar and the raid of her house to be politically motivated?

This question is based on the fact that there were loud protests from MAGA when Donald Trump was investigated and had Mar-a-lago raided, with claims that it was politically motivated. So I'm basically curious as to whether you guys consider this to be as politically motivated as you thought it was when Trump was the target.

Elections Are concerns that Trump will attempt to block, interfere or tamper with midterm results warranted?

Polls predict it’s likely that Democrats will pick up seats in the House and possibly the Senate after this year’s midterms.

That doesn’t mean that will happen. However based on the polling data available, even the most conservative/right leaning polls suggest it’s possible.

A key point of discussion amongst non Trump supporters is what Trumps reactions will be in the event of a loss.

Fears include, declaring a national emergency, rejecting the election results, refusing to seat/confirm elected officials and claiming election fraud without evidence.

Is there any legitimacy to these fears or is it unsubstantiated fear mongering from the left?

Other What do you think of the "Mar-a-Lago Face" aesthetic?

There is an ongoing discussion about a very specific cosmetic trend heavily associated with high-profile women in the MAGA and Palm Beach circles. Critics and plastic surgeons often refer to it as the "Mar-a-Lago face".

To many outside the movement, this look (characterized by heavy dermal fillers, frozen expressions, over-plumped lips, and extremely taut facelifts) comes across as deeply unnatural, artificial, and visually unappealing. Many argue that conservatives would ruthlessly mock or criticize this exact aesthetic as "fake" or "bizarre" if it were being adopted by progressive Hollywood celebrities or left-wing politicians.

An extensive analysis published by The Guardian highlights how prominent plastic surgeons are actively wrestling with requests for this overt, highly visible style. The report explicitly details how patients are deliberately choosing a heavily modified, camera-ready mask over a natural appearance.

Questions:

  • Do you personally find this specific, heavy-intervention aesthetic appealing, or do you think it looks overdone?
  • If prominent liberal or left-wing women started sporting this exact same cosmetic style, do you think the conservative reaction to it would be different?
  • Why do you think this highly noticeable, uniform look has become so popular and socially accepted within this specific political circle?

I see so many comments from the Radical Left Morons and Lunatics that China and Russia are helping the “wonderful” Islamic Republic of Iran. If they are, it’s at a very low level, but I don’t believe they are at all. They have too much to lose, and we would know about it, and know about it very fast! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Other What is your personal philosophy on life?

Everyone lives by different philosophies and principles, and I'm curious what yours are.

To give an example, someone might personally resonate with Aristotle's virtue ethics. They might also live by the idea captured in a quote like, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."

BUT you don't need to have a favorite philosopher or quote! It could be a religious belief, a personal motto, something you've learned through experience, etc. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Israel Is your support for Israel as strong now as it was 3 years ago?

Since launching their full scale invasion of Gaza in october 2023, Israel has continously committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, violations of international laws, and similar atrocities, both in Gaza as well as Lebanon. Many also accuse them of genocide. I'm curious as to whether these things have caused your support for Israel to diminish in any way.

BREAKING NEWS What are thoughts on Federal authorities raiding the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar?

Omar: “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”

> Omar said she was being targeted for political purposes because of her opposition to President Donald Trump.

MS NOW reported that a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the raid — which comes weeks before November's midterm election — said the investigation into Omar is based on allegations of fraud.
Fox News, which first reported the raid, cited a source familiar with the probe as saying it is focused on her immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her father when she emigrated to the U.S. with him from Somalia as a child.

Other Is this post by Trump saying MN should "fight back" against Somalis racist??

These quotes are from an NBC News article. Is this statement racist? Do you feel ok with what is being said, and are you comfortable having voted for someone who talks this way? Thank you for your consideration.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/president-donald-trump-urges-minnesotans-fight-back-somali-immigrants-rcna602431

President Donald Trump on Thursday continued his long-running attacks on Somalis by urging Minnesotans to “fight back” against the Somali community in the state.

“The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The people of Minnesota must fight back.”

He added: “The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back! If you need, the Federal Government will come to your rescue.”

The White House did not immediately respond to an inquiry about how Trump wanted Minnesotans to “fight back.”

Minnesota has the largest Somali population in the U.S.

...

Trump’s rhetoric against Somalis in Minnesota has intensified following reports last year about dozens of people of Somali descent being convicted in fraud schemes. Since then, Trump has referred to Somalis as “crooks” and called Somalia “filthy, dirty, disgusting, dirty.”

Trump is hovering at about 37% approval in polling aggregates

Senate seats in safe states like Texas and Kansas are in play and these potential losses are being blamed on Trump's popularity

Would you rather have Trump temper his message to help the GOP, or should he stick to doing and saying things he always has?

If you were on a public street and masked men ran up to your vehicle, how would you react?

Why has ice continued to do more dangerous apprehensions like this over the simple "grab someone leaving their house for work" method that is significantly safer for all involved?

Russia What is the America First strategic case for reducing pressure on Russia while the war in Ukraine continues?

I’m Ukrainian and I follow US politics fairly closely. I’m asking this specifically because I want to understand how Trump supporters who agree with his current foreign policy see the strategy behind it.

The latest example that confused me is the deal Trump announced with Putin to bring Russian diesel back onto the US/global market, together with temporarily easing the sanctions that restricted those exports. From what has been reported, the initial amount is over 300,000 tons, with additional shipments planned.

What I’m struggling to understand is the broader strategic logic.

From my perspective, Ukraine has been doing enormous damage to one of America’s longstanding geopolitical rivals without American soldiers having to fight Russia directly. Russia has lost huge amounts of manpower and military equipment, NATO members have increased defense spending, NATO itself expanded, and much of the military spending involved ultimately supports American and allied defense production.

So from a purely America First perspective, weakening Russia this way has always seemed like a pretty straightforward strategic benefit to the US.

I do understand several arguments Trump supporters make against the previous policy. Europe should carry more of the burden. American stockpiles matter. Ukraine has corruption problems. China is the larger long-term competitor. Nuclear escalation is a legitimate concern. And obviously no war should continue forever simply for the sake of continuing it.

What I don’t understand is why those arguments lead to reducing pressure on Russia itself rather than simply changing how Ukraine is supported.

So for Trump supporters who agree with the current direction, what do you see as the intended end state?

Is Russia simply no longer considered enough of a threat to justify continuing to weaken it?

Is the idea to pull Russia away from China?

Do you think continued support for Ukraine now costs the US more than the strategic damage being inflicted on Russia is worth?

Is ending the war quickly more important to US interests even if Russia comes out of it militarily and economically stronger than it otherwise would?

Or is there a different strategic logic behind Trump’s approach that I’m missing?

I’m genuinely interested in the strongest America First case for this policy. I already know why people who oppose Trump dislike it. I want to understand why people who support him think this is better for the United States.

Russia What do you think of Trump buying millions of galllons of diesel from Russia?

President Donald Trump said that he has struck a deal to obtain diesel from Russia, a stunning reversal of years of U.S. pressure on Moscow over its war with Ukraineand an attempt to address high fuel prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

Trump said on social media on Friday that he struck the deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call in which he was expected to discuss a suspected case of plague in Russia.
Instead, Trump announced that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by an additional 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons “immediately thereafter.” Russia will deliver another 3 million tons “within a short period of time” after that, he wrote.

Trump’s shocking announcement comes after he signed a sweeping Russia sanctions law last month that aimed at clamping down on Russia’s energy economy, among other areas, that fuel its war against Ukraine.

Other Do you support the Pentagon publicly broadcasting an execution via firing squad?

The Pentagon announced its intention to livestream the upcoming firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan.

According to Amnesty International, in 2025 executions took place in 17 countries. Only 2 countries performed public executions: Iran and Afghanistan.

What are your thoughts on public executions? Considering medically-induced executions often fail, should we transition to executions via firing squad as the new standard? Or should be eliminate the death penalty entirely?
