Other Looking for software developers for a short audio interview about AI and the future of software engineering

Hi everyone!

I'm a university student working on a research paper about whether AI will replace software engineers or transform the way they work.

I'm looking to interview a few software engineers about their experiences, how they use AI tools, which tasks AI can handle well, where it still struggles, and how they think the profession might change in the coming years.

Interview details:

\- Format: Audio-only Discord call.

\- Duration: Approximately 20–30 minutes.

\- Language: English.

\- Availability: This Saturday, or Sunday, you can tell me the time frame and time zone you are available at one of these days and i'll try to accommodate it.

\- Preparation: I can send you the questions beforehand if you'd prefer to prepare your answers in advance.

Privacy and anonymity:

\- You don't need to provide any personal information, including your real name, the company you work for, or where you live.

\- You can participate using a pseudonym.

\- I won't identify you in my research paper.

\- The paper is strictly for a university school project and will not be published publicly or uploaded to the internet.

\- You can skip any question you're uncomfortable answering.

\- I won't ask for confidential information about your employer or projects.

\- And you can make any requests before the interview if u want to add or change or ask anything

I'm interested in hearing honest opinions from developers with different levels of experience, from junior developers to senior engineers and tech leads. You don't need to be an AI expert, and I'm equally interested in people who use AI regularly and those who rarely or never use it.

If you're interested in participating, please send me a message on Discord (.rb3) We can coordinate a suitable time there, and you can ask me any questions or request clarification about the project before deciding whether to participate. I can also send you the interview questions beforehand if you'd like.

I'd really appreciate your time and help with my research. Thank you! 🙏

Is vibe coding a speedup or just a new kind of tech debt?

I freelanced for a while and reviewed a lot of other people’s code before taking projects. Some of the AI-built stuff was fine. Some of it I couldn’t make sense of without a few hours of digging.

My take after that: the AI part isn’t the problem. A prototype in one evening is a real win. The debt shows up when nobody reads what was generated, nobody writes down why things are where they are, and the project gets handed to someone else.

At that point the original author saved a weekend and the next person pays it back in weeks.

So for me it’s both. Speedup for the person who builds it, debt for the person who inherits it.

Where do you land? Have you inherited a vibe-coded project that was actually decent?

I managed to understand "recursive" in programming. Why can't I understand anything on open source project or even build an open source project?

When I was in high school, I was a C student, I'm a slow learner

Anyway I managed to learn how to build To Do List in C# and Java with e.g. API, SQL and also learn to understand what recursive is.

But when I check trendly github repo right now like OpenClaw or REA, the reverse engineer.

I don't understand shit, it is like I know plus and minus, and those github repo is like Calculus.

Maybe someone here who started from Hello World and now you are coding Wizard, maybe you can help me out here...

Building a distributed system

So we have to build a project on distributed systems, but we cant use kubernetes . So we were thinking of going on the task schedular road and chose that filed in distributed systems. And e thought of building a media processing based task shcedular. Can i know your thoughts on this what is best , and any industrial current needs or holes you see? This is a middleware project by the way and we are trying to build it as a good project to put in our CV's.
