Criminal Justice and Psychology degree looking for work in Philly

I have a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Masters in Psychology. I have been working in emergency services as a Dispatcher for 12 years. I keep going back to that type of work because it is difficult to find anything else. I live in Pittsburgh area but I need diversity for my two daughters. Can anyone tell me who is hiring in my field please?

Has anyone flown into PHL with Aer Lingus?

My mum is coming to visit for Halloween, flying from the UK via Dublin with Aer Lingus. One of the selling points is that you clear immigration/customs in Dublin.

Everything Google is saying they fly to Terminal A West and have to clear customs again. Has anyone flown this route and do you know where we would expect to pick her up?

Thanks all for the quick replies! No 2nd immigration is a relief

Motorcycle meetup? Biker bars?

Hey everyone! A friend of mine has always wanted to experience riding on the back of a motorcycle, even if it’s just for 15–20 minutes.
I was wondering if there are any biker bars, motorcycle meetups, or events in or around Philly where we could meet some experienced riders who might be willing to take her for a short ride as a passenger.
Any recommendations on where to look? Thanks!

People who went to Evergreen state college from here, how was it?

Probably a bit of a stretch, but anybody from Philly who went or still in evergreen state college at Olympia, Washington? If so, what was it like for you in detail? I'm planning on going after my two years at community college of Philadelphia, so I'm wondering if any other natives from here went there or did online classes there. Thanks!

Two Rittenhouse 1BRs, same rent, a block apart: renovated with mini-splits, or bigger and older with a private deck?

Moving to Philly Nov 1 for a one-year lease. I’ll commute to Media from Suburban three days a week and work from home two days. I’m choosing between these two 1BRs, both between 15th and 16th:

A: 1521 Spruce #301

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1521-Spruce-St-APT-301-Philadelphia-PA-19102/463415899_zpid/

B: 1536 Pine #2R

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1536-Pine-St-2R-Philadelphia-PA-19102/2056245488_zpid/

Both have $1,795 base rent, but Spruce includes water and Pine charges another $50/month. So it’s $1,795 versus $1,845 before electricity, internet and insurance.

A — Spruce

- Listed at approximately 700 sq ft; third-floor walk-up.

- Mini-split AC in the living room and bedroom.

- Newly renovated

- Smaller living room with built-in shelving/bench beneath the living-room windows.

- Local landlord whose office is next door.

- Smaller living room than Pine

B — Pine

- Listed at approximately 750 sq ft; second-floor rear unit.

- Larger-looking living room with tall ceilings, an alcove and a chandelier.

- Private deck accessed through the bedroom.

- Paneled doors, old wood floors and cast-iron radiators.

- Older kitchen/bath finishes, a blue tub and ceiling tiles in the bedroom.

- Window AC in the living room and a through-wall unit in the bedroom.

- Private owner who lives out of state; a storefront occupies the ground floor.

Looking at the photos and layouts, which would you prefer and why

Free Occupational Therapy Item

Hi folks,
I have a set of occupational therapy items (walker, adaptive toilet seat, reaching aid, sock aid), barely used and sanitized that I don’t need anymore. On my neighborhood’s “buy nothing” group nobody has shown interest, and I have a feeling that marketplace won’t be any better. At the hospital where I got them from they don’t want them back. It would be really a pity to toss perfectly working stuff, I’m thinking of the walker, in particular. Do you know of a place (church, senior community, etc.) that could be interested?

EDIT: Thank you to all of you who responded. I do confirm that TechOWL accepts donations, and that's where I'm going to take this stuff. Go birds.

xfinity mobile arena box office last minute tickets

How hard is it to score last-minute concert tickets at the Xfinity arena? Especially for popular concerts?

I really wanna go to an upcoming concert and was considering arriving early to try my luck in line, but unsure how early I need to be. I saw online that they open up tickets 3 hours before the concert starts, so I want to plan as I live about an hour away. Anyone else try before?

Moving to Philly Qs

Hii all!!

I’m originally from South Jersey and am thinking about moving back up north from Austin. Philly is definitely on my radar, but I’m a little nervous about the move and would love to get a better feel for the city!!

One thing I really love about Austin is the sense of community, especially around health and wellness. There are always meetups, dance events, movement classes, and people looking to connect in ways that don’t necessarily revolve around drinking. I’m curious what the social scene is like in Philly, especially for people in their late 20s!

I feel like a lot of my memories of going into Philly growing up involved drinking and going out to bars, and that’s just not really my scene anymore. I’d love to hear about how people meet friends, find community, and spend their time outside of work, especially if you’re into wellness, dance, movement, or just finding fun ways to connect with people!

Would love to hear your experiences, recommendations, or just general thoughts on what it’s like living in Philly!!

Thanks in advance!! 🫶

Affordable studio apartments in West Philly, Spruce Hill

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for an affordable studio apartment in West Philly, preferably around Spruce Hill. I came across The Clark and really liked it.

Are there any other apartment buildings or condos you’d recommend? I’m mainly looking for places with good reviews that are reasonably priced.

Any suggestions or personal experiences would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Where does one go when they're interested in starting a music project but have never started a music project before?

Hello Philly friends - I'm interested in starting a little music project that's 80s synth pop based but this would be a pretty new venture for me. I've no idea how to go about finding folks that would be interested in collaborating. This would just be for fun and possibly little side gigs here and there, but nothing serious.

Why do some people in Philly park like this? Seriously?

Around 7 PM today, I was parked near Eagle Salon in Chinatown, Philadelphia.
I had already started my car, my lights were on, and I was getting ready to leave.
Then this guy in an Audi A4 decided to back up ridiculously close to my car.
Here’s the thing: **He had PLENTY of space in front of him.** He was already parked, but he just kept reversing until there was barely any space between our cars.
Like, seriously, WHY?
There was absolutely no reason to park that close. It honestly felt like he was deliberately trying to make it harder for me to get out.
I’ve never experienced anything quite like this before.
**Is this a common thing in Philly? Do people actually do this on purpose just to annoy other drivers, or am I missing something?**
I’m genuinely curious because this was incredibly frustrating.

Things to do with a toddler for a day trip into Philly

Hi all, I F22, am celebrating my daughter’s second birthday by taking her to adventure aquarium the day before her second birthday (my day off from work AND she’ll still get a free pass since she’s under 2 I believe?)

Now this is the hard part; I’m thinking- what do we do after, where do we hit up?

Personally I’m from delco and would go to Philly a good bit as a kid but that was a hot minute ago. In high school I mostly stayed in my area (Havertown area) then didn’t really get into the city much after graduating because I’ve been working a ton (there were a few times with different people I was seeing but I barely remember that anymore). Then I had my daughter. I still made it out to Christmas village this past year lol.

The only idea I really have right now is maybe stopping by reading terminal market for food. Still on the drawing board.

P.S. Thank you in advance ! 💕

another moving to….

Hi all,

I know this has been asked a lot but the advice seems to vary, but I’m moving to Philly from the Midwest in February and never lived in the city before. My job will be in Center City. And I have a few specific that I have to have:

I need greenery, diversity (preferably more black/pocs), has to be safe, a oly gym, and car friendly. I know it’s anti car here but it’s just not worth getting rid of yet.

I’ve narrowed it down to Graduate Hospital and North Point Breeze way. Anyone familiar with these areas? Or have any recommendations?
