I didn't read the FAQ Spontaneous trip to NOLA

Have comp rooms at Harrahs Casino, so staying there. Flying in Thursday at 10am and leaving Sunday at 10am. Very quick trip. We've never been here before, very excited!

What's the must to-do in 3 nights/days? We like concerts, drinks, food, and gambling. lol. Don't want to rent a car, hate driving on vacations. Any good river boat tours? Ghost tours worth doing?

Lodging First trip to New Orleans

We are in our 60s and plan to drive so we can hit a few spots in Mississippi on the way back home. We are looking for a preferably historic hotel to stay in that has a secure on site parking facility. We are ok with paying a daily fee but it must be on site. It seems alot of places we are checking out on line use lots that are several blocks away and not secure. Looking for recommendations.

I didn't read the FAQ Planning my best friend’s bachelorette trip in NOLA

Hi! 26 y/o MOH planning my best friend’s bachelorette trip to NOLA. I have never been before so I have no idea what to expect or even where to begin looking. Aiming for July 2027.
It is really a small group, only maybe 5-6 of us. Everyone is 21+. I’m looking for any input, suggestions, advice, etc.

  1. What are the best places to look into staying?
    - I would love to be able to book a really great hotel or even a nice AirBNB type of thing, big enough for all of us in one room or a conjoined room if at a hotel, preferably close-ish to Bourbon St. A pool is a really big pull for me bc I know that is where we are hanging out when we are waking up hungover lol, if at hotel- good breakfast included or good spots nearby would be awesome!

  2. Best places or “must haves” to eat in NOLA?
    - mentioning food, that is a MAJOR aspect of this trip. i need all of the best breakfast/brunch spots, restaurants for elegant dinner vs more casual dinners, good dessert shops and obviously- the best bars to stop at. anything and everything is welcome. the bride is a huge rock fan, as well as a karaoke lover. we love a good dive bar, but maybe a good club or two for one of our nights out!

  3. Best way of transportation?
    - should we plan on booking a rental car or are most things in the area at a walkable distance? how is the safety of uber’s or ride-shares in the area?

  4. fun, niche activities?
    - I for sure want to book like a boat ride through the swamp, we wanna see gators and all the wildlife. I would love to be able to book like 4-wheelers or dirt bikes of some sort and go mudding?? is that even a thing there idk. obviously… ghost tours. i need all the best ones. and then just any other fun activities you may have done for your bachelorette or something you want to do in the future?? any ideas are welcome!!

Thank you in advance to anyone willing to answer and share their feedback/advice! This is something I have been so extremely excited to plan!!

David Wimbish Tix (free)

Found someone. Thanks!

I have tickets for December 2 for David Wimbish. Actually for American aquarium, because he’s opening for them. But I bought them for David. I’m not going to be here now, and I am happy to give them away. I’ll leave this up for a few hours and then pick somebody, assuming there are multiple somebodys that are interested. It’s four tickets, which gets you a table. Tell me why you don’t need another goddamn sermon… David style. 🎶❤️

Irish cultural museum and coffee house

Planning our next visit and Google shows the Irish cultural museum and coffee house are temporarily closed. Can't find any information on it closing or why. Was wondering if it is in fact closed? And any information on when it will reopen?

Was my favorite Irish coffee ☕

Halloween in NOLA as a solo female traveler / Endless Ball

I (44F) will be traveling to NOLA for the first time for Halloween weekend this year, flying in on Friday 10/30 leaving Monday 11/02. I just got myself a ticket to the Endless Night Vampire Ball on Halloween Night, but I'm now starting to feel anxious about it. I will be on my own, and I'm hoping to meet people and have a good time.

I just read an old post from 3 years ago of a couple who only stayed at the ball for 30 minutes as they thought it was very loud and too packed. I spent over $200 for my ticket as I missed the early bird sale, so I'm hoping it's worth the money. Now I'm second guessing myself. I really would have wanted to go to the Anne Rice Halloween Ball but it's sold out and too expensive.

I spent a lot of money on my Halloween outfit, and on this trip alone. I've wanted to visit NOLA ever since reading Interview with The Vampire when I was 12. So, it is quite a special trip.

I'd love to hear from you guys about the Endless Night Ball or other places I could explore if I end up not liking it. Also, if you're also going to the ball, let's meet up for a drink. I'd feel less alone and anxious. 😬

Where’s the free/cheap dirt?

Hey I have a 12’ deep hole in my yard that I need to fill in. Requires many dumptruck loads of dirt. Soil Quality does not matter. Happy to pay a driver for their time and gas but would prefer to pay little/nothing for soil that contractors etc. need to get rid of anyway.

Got any leads???

Moving Here Mint Mobile - how good of a connection is it?

Hi!
I have been planning on switching to Mint Mobile from the MVNO I have right now. How good is the network, and the what about the mobile data? I mostly live in Metairie and work in New Orleans, so that is the region I need it working the best.

NOLA Funk Fest advice.

Is it worth it to bring a chair or blanket into the festival? I’m not concerned about being at the very front of the stages.

whitney plantation or wwII museum

hello! I am coming to nola for a wedding in november and we are building a short trip around it. unfortunately we don’t have time to do both the WWII museum AND the whitney plantation, so we have a decision to make! which would you recommend, and why?

I enjoy history and any opportunity to learn more, but i wouldn’t consider myself a “buff” by any means.

thank you so much! can’t wait to visit!

Moving Here Am I different than the rest?

I know you all are probably tired of these posts butttt
I’m from Bossier City, wrapping up my undergrad in May here and Baton Rouge and plan to attend SUNO for grad school. I’m no stranger to the fear mongering regarding Shreveport and Baton Rouge and I already know what it’s like just living in Louisiana. I’m just looking for recommendations for any neighborhoods closer to the school/outskirts of the city. Thanks!

Moving Here Yes, another “maybe moving to NOLA” post!

Hi all, I’m a medical student looking at where to go for residency. New Orleans is on the list—I’ve only ever been a few times and it is very different from what I am used to… I grew up in the mountain west and am used to being able to hike/bike/whatever else year round. I’m curious how the outdoorsy folk of NOLA fare, what y’all get up to, and any insight people who’ve moved from similar spots have!

Any info you have on what it’s like working at the hospital systems in town (especially Tulane or Oschner) would be appreciated as well :-)

When I’ve been in town I’ve loved it, I’m an artist as well and the creative community is compelling, and I must say, I LOVE y’all’s food and the energy of the city, but outside the touristy stuff I just don’t know what to expect, and am looking to get a better sense of what my day-to-day life may look like.

Thanks and blessings!

Lively Sunday nights? Recs appreciated

Are Sundays in the French Quarter lively? I’m getting married on a Sunday this coming March and instead of doing a reception we were planning on all hitting the town together as a group after dinner (~15 people likely) but I wanted to see if there were any areas/bars that were recommended on Sunday nights? Dinner ends at 9 but wondering if we should look to shift our timeline a bit earlier if it dies out in the quarter earlier.

All opinions and help appreciated!

Activities Favorite shops for vintage/oddities and quirk?

Mapping out our holiday trip and would love suggestions for your favorite shops for vintage clothes, offbeat/quirky items and oddities. We’re traveling with two teens who are fans of weird and thrifted stuff. Your suggestions welcomed!

(Dreaming of NOLA is my anti-drug right now, especially as I wrap up active treatment for cancer and need something fabulous to look forward to.)

I'm looking for a private company to pick up a party of 4 from the airport and drop us off at the hotel? Does anyone have any experience with any companies? (Black car service)
