Sub under new management - Anyone can now make a post

Hi all,

As the previous mods had gone AWOL, I have now claimed this sub from Reddit.

I have changed the rules and anyone can now make a post without prior permission being needed.

Please be patient while I go about getting this place in order.

Severe bloating issue

38 years old
240 pounds
Had full bloodwork done in April and nothing stood out as abnormal.
I took two rounds of antibiotics in August for a sinus infection and started developing gut issues.
My dr upped my dosage of lexapro from 30mg to 40mg due to panic attacks and eve since I wake up bloated and go to sleep bloated, I can barely eat, and the bloating keeps me in an anxious state all day.
I also take buspar 15mg 3 times per day and pantoprazole for IBS. Tried simethicone and digestive enzymes with no relief.

36M Fainted During Local Anesthesia With Epinephrine — Does the Vasovagal Explanation Make Sense?

Hey,

I'm 36M and yesterday I suddenly passed out during local anesthesia injections for my second hair transplant, before the procedure even started.

The anesthetic was Dentocaine with epinephrine, which my surgeon said is similar to what dentists use.

I was sitting at a 45° angle. After just 5–6 injections (~1 mL, perhaps 1% of the planned total), I lost consciousness without any warning, I didnt feel I'm about to pass out. I felt absolutely no pain and had just told the doctor the injections were very gentle.

According to my surgeon, I was unconscious for about 3-5 seconds (for me it felt much longer). I woke up briefly confused, with cold sweats and mild chest discomfort. My BP was 150/85 before the injections, 125/75 afterward, and 5 minutes later i felt cold sweats again and they measured 104/60 while still feeling. Full recovery took approximately 30 minutes.

Relevant background:

  • First hair transplant a year and a half ago with zero issues, including anesthesia.
  • Just completed an 18-hour trip from the US to EU.
  • Slept only 6 hours in the previous 48 hours, with severe jet lag and exhaustion.
  • Was anxious before the procedure, but not sure if more than the first one.
  • Hereditary hypertension since childhood, treated with amlodipine/valsartan 5/80 mg daily.
  • No smoking, alcohol maybe a glass once a week, healthy in good shape (maybe physically even more optimal than the first transplant).

My surgeon is convinced this was a vasovagal reaction, caused by a sudden BP drop due to the combination of epinephrine, exhaustion, stress, and my possibly BP medication (the amlodipine).

He suggested retrying after 1–2 days of rest with the same anesthetic and even recommended temporarily stopping my BP medication. I've decided to postpone for several weeks instead go home to fully recover and come back in a couple of weeks.

My questions:

  1. Does my surgeon's explanation make physiological sense?
  2. Could returning well-rested, hydrated, and less stressed significantly change my body's response to the same anesthetic?
  3. Has anyone experienced something similar and later tolerated the same anesthetic without issues?
  4. could it really be one time thing? I never experienced something like that in my life.

I am not asking for medical advice, nut I'd especially appreciate input from other people, I'll see my primary doctor next week.

Thanks!

Upper chest pain

At around 12am yesterday night, I(18F) began experiencing upper chest pain after a cough. I've been coughing quite a bit for only a day, but I think it was after one specific cough that I suddenly felt a dull, aching pain in my upper chest. I took some painkillers and hoped that I would sleep it off, but the pain has continued onto today. My upper chest feels fine until I move my upper body, take a deep breath, cough, yawn, or clear my throat. I'm usually a bit reluctant to get checked at the hospital or GP because I always feel like I'm overreacting, so I wanted to know if the symptoms I'm experiencing are more than likely something minor that will disappear after a few days, or if I should get it checked out just in case.

Dizzyness.

27F Height: 5'6 Weight: 68 Race: White Country: South Africa.

I am currently feeling extremely dizzy. I cant lie down or the dizzyness gets worse. I am on chronic medication for my asthma, My normal dr has me on Vannair. I dont drink or smoke. I am clean as a whistle but this dizzyness has started yesterday evening. It feels like the room is spinning whenever I am lying down. I first thought I didnt have enough salt so I had a little bit of salt last night along with some water. But it didnt help much. It is starting to be summer here. But my nose has been feeling pressure for the last week or so. I am only gonna be able to get to the dr or ER this afternoon. I am wondering IF I need to go.

I barely ate for like 2 days and felt rly full when trying to eat? What is that feeling caused by?

Idk if there’s an explanation for this feeling, or it’s worth seeking help, due to my circumstances I did not have access to food for a while til I seeked help, I had felt a uncomfortable starving sensation for a while, until i managed to eat and after eating a few chips I felt very full. I couldn’t eat more or the rest of the food. Usually when I eat when starving I feel relived but this time I felt full?? and now I just feel very sick and I am cramping badly now, does anybody know?

How do GPs and Clinicians feel when you show them health data captured from an app?

If there are any Doctors out there, or if you have gone to a Doctor or a specialist, I am not asking for medical advice - just a general understanding of thoughts and attitudes.

I would love to know what doctors think when you receive or share data that has been captured and monitored by a personal device? (Eg. wearables, devices or health apps) and then maybe interpreted by ai??

Do you trust the data? Or would you still question results and want to run your own tests?

Have you come across any apps or tools that accurately capture data well enough that could be used in a GP discussion setting?

Mild cold symptoms (loss of smell/taste/congested sinuses) and joint paint for 1 month

32 male, 175lb, no known preexisting conditions.

Past month ive had a very diminished sense of smell, taste and have a slightly congested sinuses, not extreme but I can feel it and have a slight congested sick voice. It feels like I have some slight clogged snot behind my sinues i cant clear. My upper right shoulder joint area also has general pain / aches during movements. No other joint pain.

Any guesses or ideas what this could be? If I get a cold it generally clears up quick and Ive never been this long with this mild sickness, in combination with the right arm joint pain.
