New to Fairbanks

Hi! Me and my wife are going to be stationed in FT Wainwright next may. She’s from California and I’m from New York. We’re extremely excited to experience something new and enjoy Alaska. We’re both 21 and fearing we will end up getting bored and pregnant like 80% of the married military culture out there we wanted to know if there’s any bars out in Fairbanks that have younger people that we can have fun at

Looking for resources-help with electricity

My husband and I have been without electricity for over a month now (he works, I'm unable to due to health issues we're still trying to figure out) due to unexpected expenses with our car and have been trying to pull together the funds to get it turned back on, we've tried public assistance and they can't help us because even with the full amount, it won't be enough to get our electricity turned on, does anyone know of any places outside of public assistance and Salvation Army that would be able to help us? We owe $617 to get it turned back on and were banking on our pfd, but I'm not receiving mine until the 22nd and my husband only got a partial. Our house is very cold and we've tried everything, we just can not scrape the funds together. Thank you in advance!

Recommendations Needed!

Hello! We are currently visiting fairbanks and with the rainy weather today our plans have been heavily modified lol. Our trip to Castner Glacier was a no-go and we are running a bit low on ideas for things we can still do today, anyone have recommendations?

We have an arctic tour for tomorrow and plan on going to the chena hot springs and ice museum on Wednesday. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated and extremely helpful 😊

Hello anyone else currently hearing Loud music near the trainer gate area at 10:54pm? I’m curious to know where it’s coming from (doesn’t bug me) just curious since I can hear the bass clearly and some of the rest of the song but I can’t pinpoint where it’s at nor do I see any activity around me

Southern Cali with no experience driving in snow visiting third week of October.

In regards of driving I’m patient and a well adaptable driver. I’m unsure if during this time snow will be an issue for a rental and if I need to do anything to make sure the rental doesn’t get damaged during my visit.
I’m driving alittle up north for an Airbnb and wanted some help or guidance to know how’s the roads during these times. Is it doable to drive? Should I prepare in advance for anything. How’s the drive to Chena hot springs? Any recommendation on tours and do tours have a meet up spot or do they pick up from the city. Would love any advice from any experience travelers or locals

Groceries after midnight

We are arriving late on a Friday. I'd love to have snacks, drinks, and coffee for the next morning before we head to our rental house. I can't seem to find a store open that late. Is there a heavily stocked convenience store in Fairbanks?

What would you suggest I visit around the city to take photos of?

I'm flying to fairbanks in a week and I have absolutely no clue of what areas of the city are most "city like" or interesting. Less nature more rural I should say. Whenever I look up Fairbanks photography it's always something about mountains and nature and while that is fun and interesting, most of my trip to Alaska is filled with enough of that.

Visiting Fairbanks in February

I’m beginning to plan a trip to Fairbanks in February with the main goal of seeing the Nothern Lights. We have some plans to visit UAMN and the Ice Museum near the Chena Hot Springs resort. I would like to find some souvenirs and special keepsakes while there & not necessarily just tourist cash grabs.

A few places I found online are Arctic Travelers Gift Shop and Northern Whimsy. I know about looking for Silver Hand or Made in Alaska markers. Are these any good? Can anyone recommend authentic souvenir shops that are open during the off season? I’m more so a trinket & jewelry person, so that’s the vibe I’m looking for.

Is this a local artist? I thought it was so beautiful but thought I'd ask if it was similar to project on first with locals doing art 🎨 🩷🪷 or how it came to be near garden/river

Transportation options

What are recommendations for two people. Our first day is accounted for in regard to transportation. We have two additional days that I'm trying to figure out logistics.

They are weekdays. One day we have a timed event at the running reindeer farm with a 2:00pm start time. The other day would only be for any ships or one shorter activity before flying out.

We will be staying at the La Quinta.

We did want to go downtown after our tour and potentially, down town the following day.

What would your best recommendations be as far as transportation and cost? Thank you in advance.

5 Months in Fairbanks

I have accepted a seasonal job offer in Fairbanks from late April to the end of September. I’ve done some of my own research but wanted a local perspective of things to do, food recommendations, and the best places to make friends (especially friends with cars that will drive me places out of town lol).

I like the outdoors and am willing to participate in pretty much any summer sport, though I’m mostly keen to hiking and rock climbing. I like music or really any crowd event. I also LOVE history, especially mining history/ghost towns. I put Chatanika Dredge on my itinerary, but would love any other similar recommendations. Also what are the chance of me seeing the Aurora at some point in September?

I know this is a lot but any help is appreciated!
