ER visits, need of care, concern of self interest. Formal statement.

I'm not happy that I need to say this, but I've realized I have to.

Medical care is available for everyone, regardless of circumstance. The ER is intended not just to be an emergency center, but the most accessible way to get help.

If you need help, or you have a concern for your health, you are entitled to ER treatment.

Anyone who tells you that ER treatment is for life or death situation, or emergency only is misinformed or jaded in their career.

Elderly patients frequently go days or weeks without seeking care, because they are ingrained that they are a burden on who they are asking for help.

This is unacceptable and it's in complete contrast to one of the fundamentals of modern healthcare, which is patient centered care. The patient is the entire focus. Thinking they should have gone somewhere else is your focus. Thinking they are a burden is a facility focus. The focus is the patient. If someone with a toothache thinks they need emergency care, then they get it. They may not have access to anything else.

I will be removing comments that state ER visits are not something someone should consider, as misinformation, from now on unless there is a very clear and definable reason why the individual is misinformed about their situation.

Can some here explain what going on? Do other people here have this problem?

I’m wondering what is going on every time I get the cold I’m coughing way more than most people. Where most people cough than wait than cough than wait than cough.

Where I seem to cough than cough after the cough some times number times in roll. Also deep coughs seem trigger coughing spells one after other and some times chocking.

I’m wondering why that case and is this some thing should be address with doctor of signs of weak lung function.

Is this Heartburn ?

• Upvotes

I get heartburn for no reason at all . I am a healthy 112 lb 65 year old woman. I started feeling heartburn 5 days ago. 3days ago today the heartburn feels different and keeps me up in pain all night. It feels very painful between my breast bone just where the esophagus ends and stomach begins. I can’t even touch the area. But it feels way better if I sit up or if I pass gas. Feels like I need to burp. I haven’t ate much because I’m scared so I haven’t really had a good poop. Any ideas what this may be?
I had a chest ct 4 weeks ago and the results showed all kinds of things all look good including esophagus. Had colonoscopy last year all was good. Had endoscopy with colonoscopy and after that I came home with the worst heartburn for over two week.
My Chest ct said I have a small hiatal hernia.

First time getting blood work done. Is this normal? The lady took 5 vials from this arm and said it "collapsed" and switched arms. Was only poked once. This is about 4 hours after. The other arm looks completely fine, like I never even got poked

Mono symptoms with lung complications, 7mo in

Hi all! Got mono 7 months ago and it lasted two weeks. A few weeks later I got what I thought was a severe asthma attack that left me almost unconscious. I do have asthma but it is generally very well controlled and as a competitive runner I tend to have stronger lungs than the average asthmatic so this was the first time it was that bad. Unlike a normal attack it was as if individual muscles in my back had seized up and locked my lungs up.
A few weeks later I got walking pneumonia and all my mono symptoms picked back up. Nonstop migraines, high hr, high ANA levels, low white bc count. I was unable to breathe and experience high pressure on my sternum when i try to run. I cannot breathe well at all and my ribs ache constantly. fatigue is high. I took a month of bedrest and only got worse.
I got a full rheumatology panel, echocardiogram, mri, all had no substantial results. Just recently got a lung xray and a ct scan and all are negative. I cannot keep living like this. I’m worried I am causing permanent damage on my lungs and i might end up dropping out of college if the migraines come back full strength. If anyone has any ideas or any additional testing I could get please respond.

I’m scared I have Herpes NSFW

23F, I had sex with my regular partner (since July) 6 days ago. I shaved a day after. 3 days after sex, a few painful sores appeared on my outer labia, some blister-like with a yellow crust. I also have painful and frequent peeing, increased smelly off-white discharge. Gynaecologist wrote "vulval ulcer, viral lesions, molluscum contagiosum, vaginitis." She prescribed acyclovir and antibiotics but did no HSV swab. I do have a STD panel blood test prescribed for tomorrow.

Does this look like a first herpes outbreak or something else?

29F with lupus — non-blanching, slightly raised red spots on foot. Possible purpura/vasculitis or something benign?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I noticed a small cluster of red spots on the top of one foot about two days ago. Initially, I thought they were caused by friction from my Birkenstock straps, but after checking, I realized the spots don't actually align with either strap.
There were initially around four spots, possibly increasing to six. They became more prominent yesterday but haven't noticeably changed since. They're slightly raised to the touch, do not blanch with pressure, and are neither painful nor itchy.
For context, I have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a history of abnormal clotting-related bloodwork, including possible lupus anticoagulant abnormalities and low platelet counts. I also bruise unusually easily and sometimes develop large, dark bruises with little or no apparent trauma. Vasculitis has been raised as a possibility by specialists in the past, although a previous workup was negative.
I frequently develop petechiae from relatively minor pressure, such as carrying grocery bags or wearing a backpack, and occasionally notice them spontaneously on my chest and breasts.
I realize these spots could be something completely benign, like insect bites, but their non-blanching appearance, slight elevation, and my medical history have me wondering whether they warrant further investigation.
Does this look concerning for palpable purpura or cutaneous small-vessel vasculitis, or could it reasonably be something more benign? Is this worth getting evaluated promptly, or would monitoring for a few days be reasonable?

31/F unable to eat

I have so much going on that I am currently waiting on referals for. Because of unknown health reasons I am physically unable to consume more then an average of 243 calories a day and less then 16oz of water a day. I have lost over 70 lbs in 9 months. This level has been documented since oct.10 but I have been losing my ability to eat gradually over 9 months.

My blood work is only showing mild dehydration. The ER and my primary are not doing anything except giving me a GI referal, appointment scheduled for mid November. Can I survive until mid November with my current intake capabilities? Is my fear out of line and I just need to trust them or should I keep folowing my instincts and demand medical intervention?

weird bruising

Post image

does anyone have any ideas about what this bruising could possibly be from? this is my inner thigh. theres nothing i have done (or remember at least) that could cause such an odd bruising pattern. its a little tender on the top bruise, but the rest arent. i have a family dog who frequently leaves bruises in this area when i sit and play with him but i havent sat on the ground to play with him in a long time now. i dont work a physical labor job, im just a phlebotomist so definitely nothing from that. inner thigh so extremely hard to hit myself on something in that area. im out of ideas lol

Not sure what type of bug bite this is or if I should be concerned

Hey guys, so I got bit by a bug a week ago multiple times and it looks like it’s like a set of teeth in specific areas but I’m not really sure what type of bug me or if I should go to campus health, they’re really hard when I touch them where the bumps are and they were itchy, but they’re not anymore, but they’ve been pretty red for the past week I think it might be some sort of spider and I washed my sheets, but I really don’t know no more have shown up

My boyfriend has this problem with his beard.

28 years old. 171 cm (5'7"). 65 kg. He is a tobacco smoker. He has suffered for years from back acne (which was treated with isotretinoin) and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in his armpits, but this seems different. What is it? They are itchy and painful, resembling a rash of pus-filled pimples.

The dermatologists don’t know what it is; they have prescribed clindamycin, doxycycline, clarithromycin, retinoids, and topical antifungals. However, the problem has worsened rather than improved. This has been going on for 1 year and 2 months.
