AyBe Armenian Keyboard: Introducing support for Western Armenian, better gestures and more
Exciting news!
I have published the long waited AyBe Armenian Keyboard update (v1.2.10) and it is packed with hayeren awesomeness!
First I want to thank my users and tell that your feedback and direct requests inspire me to improve the app and make typing Armenian more and more comfortable. And special thanks to Ruben Danielian for the help with Western Armenian.
In this version:
- Western Armenian support (beta)
- New flick gesture for faster typing
- Cancellation gesture for popups
- Improved Haykana layouts
- Improved Eastern Armenian suggestions
- Improved Emoji search by full rework of emoji tagging
- Bug fixes and performance improvements
Western Armenian
Now AyBe Armenian Keyboard supports Western Armenian, including:
- suggestions
- apostrophe words in suggestions
- common suffixes dropdown
- emoji search
- app UI (this one was written using AI and if you feel something odd, tell me I will gladly fix for the next update)
- the typing game
To switch to Western Armenian you need to open the keyboard app, go to Setup and change Dialect to Western Armenian.
Flick Gesture and Cancellation
Now the popup keys are more ergonomic: each of them has default key.
Plus you can simply move the finger left and right to insert different popup keys: it's sensitive and reacts smart to finger gestures. Drop it on the cancel area (backspace) to cancel it.
Haykana Layouts
Haykana Togh: English QWERTY layout places y-n-m, while Haykana Togh was following the alphabet order. People were used to QWERTY and I got lots of requests to change the order – and it appeared really more comfortable; now it's յ-ն-մ.
Haykana Karg: և is now with ե and է։
Still No Dictation
Sorry on this one, but not my fault! iOS does not provide API to mic from keyboard extensions. I cannot build it because of OS limitation yet.
Feedback
If you find bugs, typos, weird or incorrect suggestions or sloppy words in UI, tell me, I will gladly fix them in the nearest update.

Question regarding climbing the Southern peak of Aragats in late October
Hi! We are 4 tourists, planning to do the hike on the Southern peak of Aragats on October 24th or 25th in this year. What are the typical weather conditions and snow situation there at this time? Is it a reasonable hike to do in this period of the year? Normal trekking equipment is enough, or it requires some extra stuff (crampons, ice pick etc.)? Is it even possible to get to the starting point by car, or roads are already closed/in a bad condition? Thank you!

Video / Տեսանյութ Yerevan Hrazdan Market
I spent some time in Yerevan last year and really enjoyed exploring the local markets. Hrazdan was probably my favourite, messy, busy, a bit chaotic, and full of character.
I filmed a simple no-commentary walk through it to capture the atmosphere as it was.
Would be interesting to hear what locals think of the market, whether it has changed much, and if there are any similar places in Yerevan or elsewhere in Armenia that you can recommend.
I am looking forward to returning to Armenia!
Thank you!

Birthright Armenia?
Looking to see if this would be a good option to explore Armenia instead of traveling for a month or so around the country. Has anyone done the program and is it worth it? I’d be coming from America and would be in my late twenties if I decide to go. I don’t know much about my ancestry but this program seems like a great opportunity to explore my roots. Any experience would be helpful!!

Armenia deserves so much more love and appreciation
I recently visited the Caucasus for the first time, and I honestly didn't expect Armenia to end up being my favorite country!
Everyone online and back home seems to rave about Georgia, so I went with high expectations and actually spent more time there. But I ended up enjoying Armenia, especially Yerevan, much more.
I found Armenians generally friendlier and more welcoming. In Georgia, I sometimes found interactions with men a bit more aggressive, and I got the impression that drinking and getting drunk played a disproportionately big part in some social situations. Of course, these are just my personal impressions, but I felt more comfortable in Armenia.
I also preferred Yerevan as a city. It felt cleaner and better maintained, whereas in Tbilisi most buildings were falling apart. The very visible police presence in Tbilisi also made parts of the city feel a little oppressive to me, while Yerevan felt more relaxed.
And I absolutely loved Yerevan's atmosphere! The outdoor café culture was one of my favorite things, with terraces everywhere and people sitting outside eating, drinking and chatting. Some streets reminded me of Paris. The city felt modern, lively and full of character.
The Cascade was another highlight, especially the art and the gorgeous views of Mount Ararat when the weather allowed. There was so much music and art around the city, and I was lucky enough to experience the 2808 Yerevan celebrations, which made the city feel even more vibrant. And the food was fantastic, too!
I went to the Caucasus expecting to love Georgia, but Armenia was the country that really won me over. I left wishing I'd spent more time there, and already wanting to come back to explore more of the country.
To everyone who made my visit so enjoyable, thank you!

Hiking to Azhdahak without a guide
Hello,
I'm looking to hire a car for a hike up Azhdakah in the next couple of weeks. From what I've seen online, it's best to park in Geghard, and set off from there. Has anyone done this before? If so, how many hours would you recommend? Is there a visible, marked trail? And I'm guessing there's going to be a bit of snow falling this time of year?
Thanks in advance

History / Պատմություն Vakifli/Musa Ler Dialect- Has it changed ?
Hi guys, Bolsahye here.
I was doing some research on the different dialects of Armenian the other day and while I was watching some interviews from the Vakifli village in Antioch I couldn’t help but notice that the dialect spoken is literally the same as what you may come across in Bolis. It’s kind of confusing to me because I thought since Vakifli is located on the slopes of Musa Ler the villagers would probably speak the endangered Musa Ler dialect.
*** ****Does anyone have information on this linguistic switch ? Was there a wave of armenians from urban areas that decided to move there ?*
If anyone has some information on this I would be really glad to learn more.

Tourism / Զբոսաշրջություն Visiting Armenia this week! Looking for hidden gems, jewelry workshops & laundry help in Goris
Hello, my beautiful Armenian friends!❤️
My family and I are traveling to Armenia this week, and we're super excited to explore your beautiful country!
Our plan is to spend 3 nights in Dilijan, 3 nights in Goris, and 3 nights in Yerevan, exploring the surrounding areas along the way.
We'll be traveling by car, so we'll have the flexibility to explore smaller villages, take scenic detours, and discover interesting places off the beaten path.
We'd love to get some recommendations from locals, especially for:
- Hidden gems: Beautiful nature spots, small villages, local food, unique experiences, or places that aren't necessarily on every tourist itinerary. We love discovering authentic places and avoiding overly touristy attractions.
- Jewelry workshops & local artisans: My wife is a jewelry designer, and we'd love to discover local jewelry makers, traditional craftsmanship, or workshops where we could meet artisans, learn about their work, or even participate in a workshop. Anywhere in Dilijan, Goris, Yerevan, or along our driving route would be great!
And one very practical question about Goris: Where can we do our laundry? 😅
We're traveling light, and since Goris is our middle stop, we'll definitely need to wash some clothes there.
I already asked our hotel about laundry services, but they weren't particularly helpful during booking (maybe they'll be more helpful once we arrive!).
Does anyone know of a laundromat, laundry service, or even a local person/business that offers washing and drying in Goris?
Of course, our last resort is washing everything by hand, but with a 4-year-old traveling with us, we'd really appreciate a more convenient solution! 😂
We're really looking forward to discovering Armenia, meeting lovely people, eating delicious food, and enjoying its beautiful landscapes.
Thank you in advance for any tips, suggestions, or local secrets you're willing to share! ❤️

hey guys, i am a 12th year student who wants to apply to aua data science major. i am not really sure about where to volunteer that will have value in my application. would appreciate if you could suggest any volunteering opportunities related to my major.
one more thing. i am chosen to volunteer in cop 17 green zone. i am confused about whether it is worth participating, cuz as soon as i know the certificate that they are providing is not even by the UN and it is just an armenian organization that is organizing events like this one.
