Discussion Embark this is your game.

I have been jerked enough to feel the need to write this out into the void.

I have very very fond memories of tech test 2 and the early days of arc raiders on release. This game demands tension, without tension its a sandbox experience with no real economy or risk, i have played one session on pve and my inventory would make jeff bezos weep with envy, its so easy.

Pve breaks this game, the current abmm breaks this game, stop trying so hard to please everyone and stick with your vision, my fear is the current player numbers will impress the suits and all of a sudden we have my little pony supermarket looter edition.

Relax the abmm, dont introduce pve unless you literally want a destiny 2 style story and raid system and lean in harder on what made this game special.

If you really want to make a pve mode, it atleast has to be so hard and scary, people still fear taking legendary weapons and gear, the frigate would be a current good example, genuine threat to life.

My two cents.

Im now going to pvp because i have no space in my inventory.

To me personally, the game was at its peak before devs confirmed that abmm was a thing. The tension was there, the unknown. Since then, community just fell into a toxic holywar between PvP crowd and PvE. Then cheaters shat on PvP. Then game died for me.

Game needs tension. Game needs the unknown. Game needs to fight cheaters back. How? I dont know at this point. Just my two cents

u/Malamutewhisperer 20h ago

The reddit community became a toxic holy war

The game has continued to be a fun experience for a couple ten thousand of usĀ

u/TheToastGhostEUW 19h ago

I don't mind ABMM purely because it made sure people had their "PvE lobbies" but they weren't COMPLETELY risk free and it seemed to accomodate both the Crazy high tier PvP crowd and the PvE crowd. PvE Mode is just redundant as its basically the same as low aggro lobbies.

1

u/Berrggyy 13h ago

I have never seen a game community get so tribal over made up labels like this. Ā It’s funny because it isnt even a real thing. Ā 90% of the playerbase is somewhere in between but these people argue like every problem of theirs is cause by the other side.

0

u/rcrobodude 20h ago

It needs to remove ABMM, we need to be able to search for our nitche in the game, trying to find other friendly raiders used to feel unique and fun, as well as tense because you never know who you could trust. It used to feel like social deduction trying to see who you could trust, but it became endless friendly lobbies so I just left

This sub has to have the highest occurrence of the word "tension" anywhere on Reddit lol

It truly is something to see how everyone starts using the exact same words.

Keep an eye out for 'having a blast' . I see that phrase everywhere on Reddit. Borderline empty marketing phrase atp

33

u/jimmyjamjars 21h ago

It is only a beta test lets just let it play out, they will do whatever they want with their game, Reddit posts have zero influence on it

18

u/Kouropalates 20h ago

Yeah exactly. I for one am very happy with the PvE Beta and if they decide to remove it, thats okay, I'll just uninstall the game again. Theres literally nothing wrong here. People acting like this is Arc 9/11 need to grow up.

-37

u/Recent-Somewhere-360 20h ago

You will not be missed if you can't stand original developers vision of the game.

18

u/Kouropalates 20h ago

Lol ok. I never said I would be missed. Im just a random asshole, Embark doesn't know who I am. I play PvE because it's fun and if it gets removed, I'll just go play other games in my library. I go where the fun for me is.

12

u/AliceRose000 20h ago

Original being a PvE game then?

-11

u/notbeansagain 20h ago

They realised it was shit and changed it the vision of the game they RELEASED

9

u/slozon 19h ago

Then people started leaving.

-8

u/notbeansagain 19h ago

Some people. Most people left because of lack of content. Pve mode hasn’t increased number they are down from last week when the update dropped.

5

u/Blue_5ive 18h ago

They’re up 6% on steam compared to the day after the update but before pve. Why lie about something so easy to check?

-5

u/notbeansagain 18h ago

The peak was 200k at the update it’s down from that

1

u/Blue_5ive 18h ago edited 18h ago

Where are you seeing these numbers? It doesn't seem to match the steam data I'm seeing. https://steamdb.info/app/1808500/charts/

Here's my source and a screenshot to back it up. Even the less popular time is 20% higher than usual.

Edit: Obviously steam is a fraction of the player base, so the numbers are actually likely higher.

Edit 2: The peak after the frozen trial update, before the free weekend was 45k (you can see the "FT" in my screenshot showing when that was released)

They explicitly stated they wanted casual players to enjoy it.

This isn't Tarkov. Why are you talking about vision and ignoring this?

-13

I don't care about casuals cause they will LEAVE THE GAME. They will casually go play something else and the game will die just because of idiots who can't die in video game.. few years back devs would have said to get good or go play something else.. nowadays everything has to be for everyone.. what a joke

What's so stubborn that I don't want to lose the game it was ? Everyone said it's masterpiece and it didn't have PvE because it never needed one

6

u/latestwonder 16h ago

thats like, exactly what being stubborn means man

0

u/Recent-Somewhere-360 16h ago

People saw and bought PvPvE game and few months later bullied developers into PvE only.. why would you buy the game if you don't like pvp? It's not like it wasn't clear to you before putting your credit card there.. if this will become permanent it's the death of this game.

7

u/latestwonder 16h ago

It was going to die without a change no matter what. Again - no one got bullied. They are a company that is free to do with their own property what they think is best.

0

u/Recent-Somewhere-360 16h ago

Right.. so I HOPE that they will not listen to people who can't play the game as it was intended

8

they are the only people who get to decide what the current intention for the game is.

6

u/The_HDR_Sn1per 20h ago

Thank fuck, someone In reality ā¤ļø

4

u/ImNinjaBob 16h ago

This is just sort of blatantly untrue.

You aren’t going to make a difference by making a single post. But the devs absolutely care about what the playerbase thinks and if the entire response on online discussion forums all point to the same thing that is going to have an impact on their decision making in the future.

Sure. If this change is metrically a success, the negative opinions on discussion forums aren’t going to have an affect. But if it isn’t a success then they will absolutely be looking at consensuses among the online communities for the game.

1

u/I_always_roleplay 16h ago

Yah the trial isn’t for feedback. It’s for them to see what they want. And they don’t want what the players want. That is very clear

1

u/BlacJack_ 2h ago

You say that, yet they are beta testing a PvE mode. This wasn’t something they planned to do.

1

u/goeppster 19h ago

5

u/Natalia_Queen_o_Lean 20h ago edited 19h ago

The game has been a casual shopping sim since launch in low aggression lobbies. Almost like embarks statistics they posted show 40% of the player base enjoys that playstyle…

Rat players are just losing their mind over it now because they’re now getting access with the toggle. It’s been like this since inception lol.

Lol you can downvote me but I’ve played over a dozen ā€œPvP matchesā€ with no raider flare popped at all since pve beta start. Rat babies really can’t handle being wrong.

1

u/Malamutewhisperer 20h ago

Obviously not everyone agrees.

In fact, more disagree with you than agree per embarks numbers. Some people need to free climb to get excited, others get that thrill going 5 over the speed limit.

"Different strokes"

2

u/Ciaran_h1 18h ago

Sometimes gamers don't know what they need and this is a prime example of it. If you've played even 2 or 3 matches of PvE, you quickly realize how dull it is. Nobody speaking, no need to bring defibs of you're supposedly looking for "friendlier" players to be on lobbies with.

I think if they want to do PvE, you need to have a separate character for it. Otherwise why should you benefit by going into pve looting lobbies, no risk all reward, then take that into the normal lobbies and economy. There's so many glaring issues with this that nobody from the pve enthusiastic side see willing to address. They just want to load in and have none of the consequences and all of the reward.

-4

u/Malamutewhisperer 17h ago

"Sometimes gamers dont know what they need"

Hilarious arrogance aside...

What if:

YOU are "that" gamer?

What "economy" are you talking about? Too many players have too much stuff and too many guns? I honestly don't understand that complaint

1

u/Ciaran_h1 16h ago

How is this even arrogance? Clearly the devs know what gamers need better than you or I. As stated, they pivoted away from PvE before launch and it saved their game and made it insanely successful.

So yes, I believe they know what's good for us, better than us. As theyvr displayed. And what else is displayed, they gave into the whole "give us PvE" pressure and bullshit and now look at the backlash. It's terrible.

The economy aspect is fair, why are you able to go in and get X item in PvE with little risk, where others to in to get item X with essential all of the risk? There's a discrepancy. Sure you can just nerf the loot, but it's just putting a bandage on the whole problem with PvE.

1

u/OzmosisJones 12h ago

> As stated, they pivoted away from PvE before launch and it saved their game and made it insanely successful.

Lmao what kind of take is this? Every single one of their post launch moves was PvE content, whether it was ABMM or the removal or PvP from feats. Their first post launch interview they discuss their surprise at much more cooperatively actual players engaged with their game than they did as devs in their playtests.

We have no idea how well this game would have been received if it launched as a PvE game, but given the massive influx of players clearly interested in the barebones PvE at launch, so much so that every major update catered to them, it feels incredibly foolish to assume the only reason the game was successful was the inclusion of PvP. Especially when we already have hard evidence that the developers did not understand how much people would enjoy the PvE they created.

2

u/theMANofSCIENCE 11h ago

You mean all the moves they made that killed the player numbers ?

0

u/marry_me_tina_b 15h ago

The ā€œmuh tensionā€ people had to pivot because that argument was going nowhere so now we’re seeing a ton of scrutiny on ā€œthe economyā€ in a game where duping glitches have run the show for 6+ months filling people’s inventory with pink weapons but suddenly now it’sactuallt a super critical issue because PvE people might be able to stock up. It’s all nonsense. Some folks will enjoy the mode, some folks won’t. That’s what the toggle is for.

-3

u/rcrobodude 20h ago

People are fucking stupid

-7

u/Recent-Somewhere-360 20h ago

-6

u/EirikurG *** ******* 19h ago

The PvE players wanting an exclusive PvE mode are not quite as big as you believe

2

u/LaBombonera 19h ago

Embark released the numbers, there isn't a "as you believe" here. Dude...

0

u/EirikurG *** ******* 19h ago

They did, and Mixed were the majority in April (40%, 27% in September). PvE 37% in September (a majority if you look at that in vacuum yes). But PvP were at 34%, which combined with the 27% mixed players makes 61%
That's a majority actually engaging with the PvP aspect in the game

2

u/LaBombonera 19h ago

Oh, the old "mixed and pvp are basically the same" argument. So old. Do you think the majority of mixed players are more inclined to pve or pvp? The "mixed" lobbies, the ones with the tension aren't 50/50, it's 80% pve and 20% hunting by pvp/mixed players.

Let's even do 39 vs 61, even then, it's 39% exclusively pve. 39% isnt strong enough to try a mode?

You might not like it, but it's not a few people wishing for pve only. Deal with it. šŸ«‚

3

u/EirikurG *** ******* 19h ago

The reason we can lump Mixed and PvP together is, as I just told you, they're both demographics that accept that PvP is a part of the game.
Mixed players are by Embark's own words "with the leftover 40% in the "why not both" camp."

PvE players don't accept PvP as part of the game. That's the difference between Mixed and PvE
Mixed players get slotted into PvE lobbies all the time for simply not shooting first, which inflates that 37%, as we've seen Mixed going from 40% to 27%, while BOTH PvP and PvE increased from 30% to 34% and 37%

I'm not even going to bother touching on your made up 80% 20% numbers as they're pure fiction

4

u/LaBombonera 19h ago

If a player doesn't shoot first he's not mixed or pvpve, he's pve that retaliates. If shooting back is "mixed", pve is even stronger. You have lots of care bears that shoot if engaged. Still care bears.

So, I'm 90% pve, once every 10 raids, I shoot. I'm more in the pvpve camp than pve, right? Lump me with the pvp stats.

80/20 was generous. Before pve mode that was the rate of my mixed lobbies.

39% isn't a strong enough number... Lol.

u/EirikurG *** ******* 16h ago

That's already a minority compared to Mixed and PvP collectively making up 61%

0

u/latestwonder 16h ago

You can't define the PVPVE crowd as both PVPVE + PVP and PVE as its own thing by itself unless you add PVPVE to PVE too. There was no PVE mode before today so the PVE people where in that mixed crowd before too.

1

u/EirikurG *** ******* 16h ago

of course I can
both PvP and PvPvE players accept that PvP is a part of the game
PvE players want PvP removed from the game
hence why PvP and PvPvE players are okay with no PvE toggle in the game

0

u/latestwonder 15h ago

PVE dont want PVP removed from the game, youve created a strawman that doesnt exist. They just want to be able to play it differently on their own. I've only see PVP players asking for the opposite mode to be abolished.

Not if it's an optional mode

2

u/GroundbreakingLead15 19h ago

Isn’t that just asking to stop pleasing the PvPvE people and please your view though? Like how is it not

1

u/GhostNagaRed 19h ago

Because it's optional

1

u/GroundbreakingLead15 19h ago

But it’s still asking them to take time and effort away from the main game (stop pleasing others) in order to please your view (PvE). I don’t care if it’s optional it still has an effect on others

2

u/GhostNagaRed 19h ago

Every thing they do effects others.

Dev studios can do multiple things at once, like work on the main game AND trial new things.

It's fine if you don't like the idea of PvE mode just stop pretending it's for the greater good and not just your own reasons

2

u/GroundbreakingLead15 19h ago

Embark released 3 weeks of content after 6 months of work. It’s great content, but let’s not act like they do a great job of working on a lot of things at once.

All I’m trying to point out is the irony of your statement. People who want pve are the ones that are specifically asking for major changes at the expense of others. Dev time, game balance, economy, etc. Not the other way around

0

u/GhostNagaRed 19h ago

It's only irony of I'm saying the same thing as them. I'm not. They're advocating removing something. I'm not.

Your opinion on what Embark releases isn't linked to this topic. With it being optional it isn't at the expense of others. You either want PvP in your rounds or you don't. The options there.

1

u/slozon 18h ago

What time and effort. Its already done. Its not as much work as you think.

2

u/GroundbreakingLead15 18h ago

There are already so many complaints about the way this is implemented. Not enough arc, too many players, too easy to grief. So many people are saying ā€œwell this is just the first test, they’re gathering data to change it.ā€

Unless they plan on leaving it exactly the way that it is at this very moment, then they will have to take the time to balance and change things.

0

u/ImNinjaBob 16h ago

That’s kind of silly. It being an optional mode doesn’t mean it existence doesn’t have an effect on the rest of the game.

Adding another game mode doesn't remove tension from the existing one.

However one day of a playtest doesn't mean Embark shouldn't explore a PvE experience it's just that it needs to be built from the ground up around that just as the current one was designed at its core to have the threat of PvP.

Your title is correct, it is Embark's game. Just let them test it, maybe without pissing on everyone's parade after just a single day of testing.

All the whining and griefers sabotaging the tests is just proving the point that the p2p interactions in this game are somewhat out of balance and need fixing.

1

u/Majestic-Concept-832 20h ago

The ABMM was find before PvE beta test. That's all it needs, doesn't need a seperate PvE mode. How you play reflects the type of player you tend to bump into but with the tension of knowing that any one of them could have a hidden agenda.

1

u/t___unknown___s 11h ago

True to an extent, but disregards the fact that ABMM has already drawn this line in the sand anyway. Unspoken rule you play solos for PvE and play duos/trios for PvP.

You’re on the right track bringing up the Frigate but based on how these devs think that thought process isn’t even on their radar yet. They are barely learning what endgame content even is.

It's crazy how bad y'all want to rat on other players! Just go play PVP and shut the fuck up šŸ˜

I would rather come into PVE and annoy the fuck out of you.

Bro we know, you all won’t shut up about it

I'm glad we are getting our message across.

Enjoy your PVE mode.

u/Blue_5ive 20h ago

I am, I haven’t actually come across any of you all so keep trying! šŸ‘

Going into PvE mode to frustrate players instead of playing the "superior" and your prefererred PvPvE mode says more about your maturity than anything else.

It also reinforces the idea that you care more about griefing than you do about gameplay you claim to enjoy.

Which only serves to support the idea that some form of PvE mode is required.

I remember what made this special. Getting shot in the back with no chance of reprisal by someone I couldn’t hear. Ā Super special. Ā

They also started making a pve game and added pvp. Ā Whose to say what the real intention was, but they are testing to see if there can be more that what was originally designed.Ā

Things evolve. Ā

I think people need therapy for being ambushed in a video game because this is the number 1 complaint against any opposing criticism.

For me personally this isnt enough of a reason, also git gud.

2

u/Historical-Step-7583 20h ago

And also you forgot to mention to him after git gud, or before, either works that he has a ā€œskill issueā€ .

3

u/B1rdbr41n 20h ago

As much as I would love to no life a game to ā€˜git gud’(I wouldn’t) I would rather just be average and have fun. Ā

Respectfully you probably have more hours than me and are worse.

2

u/B1rdbr41n 20h ago

I mean playing since it came out for about 6 hours a week likely. Ā So like 300 or so. Ā But again I play for fun. Ā I know it’s a hard concept for pvp minded people to play a game and not win or get one over on someone else. Ā And most likely am worse. I’m not trying to get better. I have better things to focus on than getting pro in a fake world. Ā

They also devolve, take that as you will.

1

u/B1rdbr41n 20h ago

No they just evolve in a way you don’t like. Ā Others may like it better.Ā

I don't really care about what other people like.

PvE player here. I do like the PvE mode for casually completing quests without fear of rats. However I agree that PvPvE should still be the primary game mode. Maybe make PvE a rotating map condition so players still have access to it, but heavily restricted. PvE lobbies just feel dead as there’s no reason to communicate with others, and there’s so many loot goblin rats as well

How would you prefer they do matchmaking? Before aggression based matchmaking I remember a lot of rounds where none of the big arc were hunted because players avoided each other or hunted each other. Especially in a group it really wasn't fun unless you wanted to pvp

There was no before abmm. It was in from launch

Literally this!

I'm starting to believe Embark doesn't have a vision for their game.

2

u/rcrobodude 20h ago

They did, they just compromised it for money, but I think by catering to everyone they will end up catering to nobody

u/Eerieyerris 19h ago

Just joined this community, and I am a player who shoots first ask questions later, miss me w that pve stuff. This isn't a huge problem in Asia region because we actually like to shoot the shit out of each other lol.

I hope that Embark wakes up and gets this shitty pve mode out of the game. You want good loot? Fight for it is my way. shrug

You seem really mad about this feature. I assume that means it is mandatory.
