Megathread 2026 Ann Arbor Housing Megathread

Welcome to the r/AnnArbor Housing Megathread!

Whether you’re an incoming student, a long-time townie, or a new professional moving to the area, finding housing in Ann Arbor can be notoriously competitive.

To keep the main subreddit feed clean and make it easier for everyone to find what they need, all housing-related posts must go in this thread.

This is the place to post if you are:

  • Looking for an apartment, house, or room to rent.
  • Looking for a roommate.
  • Offering a sublet or lease transfer.
  • Asking general questions about specific property management companies, neighborhoods, or the Ann Arbor housing market.

(Note: Surrounding areas in Washtenaw Country like Ypsilanti, Dexter, Saline, and Milan are completely welcome here too!)

Useful links:

  • /r/UofM Subreddit: If you're looking for student housing, you'll have more luck with their corresponding annual housing megathread.
  • U-M Off-Campus Housing Website: Useful for students and faculty looking for verified listings and roommates.
  • Ann Arbor Tenants Union: Resources for renters' rights, lease disputes, and dealing with property management companies.
  • City of Ann Arbor Rental Resources: The official city hub outlining Ann Arbor rental laws, including the Early Leasing Ordinance (which dictates when landlords can ask you to renew) and how to file habitability complaints with the city inspector.

Hit and run at meijer

This guy in a gray truck hit my car while backing out of a parking spot at meijer on Saline road and drove off. This was back on August 23rd at around 2:15pm while I was in the store. My dash cam glitched out and didn’t record when I pulled in, so I never got his license plate, but I did get his face and that the back left tire well is rusty 😂 The police officially closed the case and can’t identify the license plate from the shitty meijer camera footage. If anyone thinks they recognize this guy, pls lemme know!

Ann Arbor Real Estate Sub Interest

Hey A2!

Mods remove if not allowed, I do not consider this a “housing” related question.

I would like to gauge interest on Ann Arbor specific Realestate sub. Honestly I am probably going to start it anyway, even if no one visits.

This is different from housing, and obviously different from U of M mega threads.

Obviously things are expensive, but the market does change. A great example of the type of sub would be the New Orleans Realestate sub.

Fully disclosure, I NOT associated with any real estate firm, agency, or agent. Nor am I an agent of any kind or broker. NOT a Realestate investor either.

I DO works in the quasi adjacent field of Geographic Information Systems.

Now for the why - I have noticed an uptick in Realestate related questions (myself included) here in A2. Having a dedicated sub would help the A2 community and Reddit community with questions, answers and general information.

State Street Median Project: Lane Closures

I will preface this by saying that I support the project and certainly see the need to beautify a main access point of our city. Large swaths of concrete are not very welcoming.

Now I will complain about the lane closures.

It has been a few weeks now and two lanes have been closed. I pass this area of the city around 730AM and again around 510PM.

Only once have I seen anyone actually working in the median in order to justify closing two lanes. I am assuming they have these lanes closed simply for safety purposes, as there seems to be no other benefit. They could use the turnaround areas for vehicle storage or close a lane temporarily to deliver mulch or supplies, but constant lane closures, when no work is being completed is rather bizarre. Especially given the year we have faced with road closures.

My recommendation would be at a minimum to close the lanes when the work starts and open them back up when the work is complete for the day. This would address most traffic surge issues.

The only benefit I have noticed so far is that people have seemingly accepted the zipper merge as a proper form of managing lane closures.

End rant.

Meteor over North Ann Arbor?

Anyone else see what appeared to be a meteor last night around 11:30-11:45PM? I was sitting in the LA Fitness parking lot on the phone, facing north when I saw a bright streak, low on the horizon slowly drop through the sky and burn out just above the Miller/M-14 area.

Too fast to snag a video/photo unfortunately.

To the woman who hit me on my bike on Zeeb/Liberty yesterday…

Thank you for not bothering to ask if I’m ok. Thank you for not saying a single word to me. Thank you for refusing to give me your insurance information. Thank you for being more concerned about the scrape on your car than the damage to my whole body AND to the extensive damage to my bike. You are the true definition of selfishness and entitlement.

To the complete strangers that drove and rode by who checked in on me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ve never been hit by a car while on my bike, ever. Never came close. This person failed to yield and didn’t bother to stop or slow down. If I didn’t immediately brake like I did, I would have been severely injured. It’s a miracle I sustained no head injuries and just walked away with a couple of scrapes and internal bruising. My helmet saved my life.

This lady was so distraught about the damage on her car. She was so distraught that she fell to the ground. But me? Screw me. I didn’t exist. I was super nice to her. I didn’t have to be, but I was. She still wouldn’t talk to me.

Also, thank you to all medical personnel and the police officer who came out for assistance. You all were phenomenal.

My first time being hit by a car on a bike and I truly hope it’s the only time.

Goose rescues in the area? Injured animal

I had a Canadian goose fly into my house and hurt it's neck earlier today. It got up and can sort of walk but it can't fully lift its head. It's been walking around then sitting down for a bit now so I don't think it's going to get better.

I tried using Animal Help Now, but I could only find a few options and two of them haven't responded.

Closure of East Huron River Drive Update (10/14)

Closure of East Huron River Drive between Huron Parkway and Hogback Road
Oct. 14, 2026 update:

The project continues to be delayed due to utility conflicts with overhead electrical facilities. DTE Energy anticipates completing its work to resolve them by mid-October and then construction of the retaining wall and roadway can resume. The road will remain closed until the project is complete, which we estimate will be by mid to late January 2027, weather permitting.

Although the roadway surface itself remains intact, the existing guardrail, retaining wall, and the steep slope along the riverside portion of the roadway have been determined to be unsafe for vehicle traffic. For that reason, the road must remain closed until construction can resume and the area can be made safe.

The Ride Route 26 Buses

I've noticed that the Route 26 Buses have not been showing up at all to the Fifth and Washington transit center in the evening hours. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, why is this the case? Did something happen?

Dermatology Recommendation?

Dermatology recommendation? As of March, Michigan Medicine Dermatology is no longer doing preventative body scans, even for those of us with regular WLE's to remove precancerous cells and a family history of melanoma. They recommended I have my PCP do a full body scan and then refer me to MM for concerning spots. I'm doubtful my PCP will be able to effectively scan my body for spots even MM residents struggled to notice. Who do you recommend?

Question for people working in IT locally: What's going on with the job market?

I've noticed that entry-level and lower-level IT positions in help desk, backend/infrastructure, and cybersecurity seem harder to find. Some jobs that were previously direct-hire positions now appear to be increasingly handled through 3rd party staffing agencies.

I'm curious whether others have noticed this trend and whether hiring practices have become more restrictive or opaque. Are qualified applicants being filtered out before reaching hiring managers? Has anyone encountered what seems like informal gatekeeping in the hiring process?

I'd appreciate hearing from others in IT, recruiting, or management who have insight into what's happening locally.

Fall Colors Photo Spot

Looking for a recommendation for an area that's likely to be pretty this weekend for a few portraits. Anything in the Ann Arbor/Brighton/Ypsi/Saline. I know some of the popular parks will work but if there's a pretty spot that's less busy that would be lovely! Thanks!

New in town

Hi everyone! I am moving to Ann Arbor next week and feeling a bit anxious about it. I am moving due to an RTO mandate for work. I think Ann Arbor has a lot of things I would love in a place to live long-term, but definitely feeling anxious since it wasn’t necessarily what I was planning to do. I would love to hear people’s favorite things about Ann Arbor and why you like living there. And if you have any recommendations for groups or meet ups for finding community, that would be great! 😊

How the heck did you do this!

I was at the baker rd McDonald's. Some guy came frantically running up to my car while I was getting out yelling "reese, reeese" then he said, "oh, I thought you were reese" yeah, clearly. So that was weird. But I didn't think too much of it. Then I went through the drive through and I figured out why real quick. The person at the speaker said pull around, second window. Normal. Ok cool. So I pull around to the side where the windows are. There's a car sitting at the first window, not moving. So after a few seconds waiting, the person in front of me pulled out and went around them and pulled up to the second window. I thought that was weird but ok. I waited a few seconds then did the same thing. I looked back to see what the heck the driver was doing and realized it was empty. Smh. So I asked the girl at the second window what was up with that car. She said he locked his keys in his car. Wth smh. Then I saw the guy walking around the parking lot looking lost. The same guy who came running up to me. First of all, McDonald's should have put a cone there or something. So people don't just sit there waiting. Second of all, how did you lock yourself out. It was a nice newer looking car too. So there should be a safety feature on the car to prevent that from happening. Also, why are you even getting out of your car in the drive through line in the first place. Ridiculous. Makes no sense to me.
