Device Settings Question Phone went empty within 8 hours of idle

• Upvotes

I recently yesterday left my phone untouched, screen off, 4g5g on but wifi off, power saver mode on, with 85% and When I check 8 hours later the phone does not turn on. Its empty.

The battery usage report shows nothing. No app usage at all. Probably because it powered the phone off and I havde to recharge.

Any idea why despite using the power saver mode my phone still drained so rapidly? Was it the 5g? Was it probably some apps specific apps maybe

The phone is young so that cant be a batterydegradation.

Looking For Suggestions Access to data/obb folders

• Upvotes

Hello everyone

A bit of background: I am upgrading from a Moto g100 to a Motorola Signature. And I know modern android restricts access to some data folders. I am trying to find ways to have the same access I had on my previous phone, or better

I know of shizuku, which is used to access some of that data, but I wanted to know if there was any other way you can gain access back to that data more seamlessly, like you could on previous versions of android.

I was considering rooting the phone as soon as I get it. I am divided on that, though, because the phone is new and the OS will get a few updates in the future, and I lack experience doing that sort of stuff.

I appreciate any comments about the matter, thanks in advance!

Google Pixel 6 Pro suddenly severe battery drain, slow charging and overheating for the past 3 days

TL;DR

I've suddenly been experiencing 3 problems with my Google Pixel 6 Pro for the past 3 days:

  1. Extremely high battery drain
  2. Slow charging speed
  3. Heat buildup even in standby I've already tried a few things to fix the issues, but without success.

I'm usually only reading, but I couldn't find any helpful answers or similar issues on various forums either. For the past 3 days, I've suddenly been experiencing the following problems with my Google Pixel 6 Pro:

  1. Extremely high battery drain

Previously, charging it to 80% was enough to last me a full day (4 hours of screen time). Over the past few days, I've had to charge it to 100% at least twice or to 80% three times to get through the day. According to a third-party app, my battery health is still at 81%.

  1. Extremely slow charging

The device charges extremely slowly, both in standby and while in use, with my usual 45W charger and a suitable cable. According to the Ampere app, the current is around 900 mA. I've also had the impression that the battery percentage sometimes stops increasing once it reaches 50%, even while charging.

When I turn the device off completely, it charges as usual.

  1. Heat even in standby

Even in standby, the smartphone stays more than just lukewarm. The heat seems to be coming from the left edge, roughly halfway up the device. It can get even hotter while charging in standby or when the phone is in use.

Here are some examples of my battery drain:

11:30 – 86% → 15:30 – 8% | Screen time: 1h 22m

18:50 – 80% → 21:39 – 29% | Screen time: 2h

23:11 – 100% → 00:00 – 88% | Screen time: 9m

00:23 – 81% → 08:39 – 5% | Screen time: 24m

Things I've tried to improve the situation:

- Restricted background activity for some apps (browser, Google, YouTube, music player): Barely any improvement - Switched from 5G to 4G: Barely any improvement - Airplane mode ON and Wi-Fi OFF: This solves the battery drain and overheating issues (it still charges slowly, though, and unfortunately this isn't a permanent solution) - Airplane mode ON and Wi-Fi ON: Barely any improvement - Mobile data ON, Wi-Fi OFF: Barely any improvement

Some additional details in case they're relevant:

- Device in use since October 2023 - I've been using it since January 2025 - Screen glass cracked after a drop in May 2026, but otherwise there have been no issues - Android version 17 - Android security update: October 5, 2026 - Google Play system update: September 1, 2026

3 days before it worked perfectly fine.

Maybe someone has an idea whether this is a hardware or software issue and has some possible solutions.

Thanks!

S25: Can't re-add any Google account. /data/system_ce/0/accounts_ce.db is corrupted ("database disk image is malformed")

Device: Samsung Galaxy S25, One UI 9, Android 17

My phone shut off at ~5% battery while the charger kept disconnecting and

reconnecting. After it booted, I got "you need to sign in to continue using

this account" for my Google accounts, and tapping the notification did

nothing. Settings and Google services were freezing at that point. I tried to

remove my Google accounts (it seemed to do nothing, but after a restart they

were gone).

Now I can't re-add ANY Google account that was on the phone before, in the

main profile:

- Password and SMS code work, I accept the terms, it loads, then "Something

went wrong" and kicks me out.

- A Google account that was never on this phone adds fine.

- The same accounts work inside Secure Folder.

- On my laptop, my phone shows up as signed in again after each failed attempt.

What the logs say (adb logcat / dumpsys account)

On sign-in, Google's side finishes, then Android refuses to save it:

AccountManagerService: insertAccountIntoDatabase: Account

{name=[redacted], type=com.google}, skipping since the account already exists

Auth: [AddAccountOperation] Failed to add account to device.

The main profile's account list has no Google account in it, but the check

says one exists. At every boot, when the phone unlocks:

AccountManagerService: 8 accounts were previously deleted while user 0 was

locked. Removing accounts from CE tables

(11) table corruption: key(536393), current page(367), root page(7)

(11) statement aborts at 11: database disk image is malformed;

[DELETE FROM accounts WHERE _id=1]

Corruption reported by sqlite on database: /data/system_ce/0/accounts_ce.db

PRAGMA integrity_check ... returned: *** in database main ***

Back up corrupted DB File : /data/system_ce/0/accounts_ce.db

I rebooted twice and compared: the file keeps the same inode (10386) and size

(3002368 bytes), the "8 accounts" message comes back, and the same DELETE

fails every time. Android's own cleanup is stuck on a damaged page and never

replaces the file.

What I've already tried (none of it helped)

- Cleared cache AND data for Google Play services, Play Store, Google

Services Framework

- Uninstalled updates for Play services and Play Store

- Safe mode

- Temporarily disabled Google Play services with adb, then re-enabled

- Added the account in Secure Folder (works there), then removed it

- Signed the device out from the web

- `adb shell cmd account help` prints nothing, so there is no shell command

What I'm looking for

- Has anyone seen this on Samsung or other Android phones?

- Is there any way to make Android recreate accounts_ce.db for user 0

without wiping the phone (no root, bootloader locked)?

- If not, would a service center be able to replace only that file, or is a

reset the only option?

I don't want a factory reset. Thanks, and I'll update this post if I find a fix.

Looking For Suggestions To Beta or Not To Beta?

I've always beta'd.
The only problem I ever had was that one or two of my banking apps wouldn't recognize the OS so wouldn't load. But that was years ago, too. No other problems.

I had a P10P on beta.
Traded it in on a new P10P (free, switched carriers....) and now I'm wondering if it's even fun anymore?

Thoughts?

Looking For Suggestions need palm rejection or similar MOTO G PURE

hows everybody doing? signal east here, i know things arent going toO well for android but weve had some good times.

more importantly, i have a device designed by a techbro, moto g pure. they made my screen go to the edge and i cant stop touching it. i tried looking online a little for a 'black deadzone border' that ignores taps for a couple pixels around the whole screen. i want this for general use.

i dont even need the screen to adapt to the border, its ok if theres an overlap. surprised i couldnt find an app for this. if i need ADB perms thats fine, maybe i can use a resolution hack that doesnt stretch to the edge.

did this techbro buy a phone like this for his own daily use? he likes the style and isnt bothered by it? dont they know that fingertips are attached to a hand? techbro honestly likely doesnt even use a phone and laughs at us phone-peasants

thank you!

Can anyone tell me what will happen if I change the Gmail account used to back up Whatsapp chats & data?

I am trying to take WhatsApp chats backup for my mother's phone. The 15GB Gmail limit is over and the backup seems to be quite a lot (she has many groups, don't ask!). I thought of changing the backup account, since that account is barely 2.8 GB used out of 15 GB.

Has this worked with people? Is there sound logic in doing this, or will I end up accidentally losing all my mom's WhatsApp chats and media?

HDR issues on the Oneplus Pad Go 2

Recently got the oneplus pad go 2. Everything was going smooth until i opened the apple TV app to watch Slow Horses, and what the fork started happening. Screen brightness jumped automatically to a 100% even before i started playing an episode. Later found out it was due to the HDR content being played on screen. Apparently i cannot help it. That is not even the problem. When an HDR video is playing, EVERYTHING else lags with extreme frame drops. Swiping up to the home screen and opening the quick settings is a sore to the eyes. Suddenly the refresh rate is 1 Hz, not 120. It takes a good two seconds for things to get normal. Same thing happened with the Disney hotstar app. I understand the brightness 'glitch', but this massive lag has to be abnormal. And i can't even turn HDR off anywhere. Is there any workaround for this? Any other android tablets have this issue?

Device Settings Question Android 17 (Nothing OS 5.0). Anyone worked out how to revert to the default Clock app screensaver when charging?

For some reason the huge, bright, screen-burning main clock screensaver has replaced the smaller, dimmer, more appropriate version from the Clock app.

I have tried switching off the main screensaver but can only get the Clock app screensaver on by manually activating it.

I used this as an overnight clock whilst charging overnight. Any ideas?

Keyboards for Z Fold 8 Ultra, used to IOS

I need help finding a keyboard for my Z Fold 8 Ultra. I've had the phone for a while now, and I switched from an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I was an iPhone user since the iPhone 6. Prior to that, I was a huge HTC fan before I switched to IOS. On the iPhone, the standard keyboard was fantastic for the features it had, and I didn't realize what a pain it would be to leave it behind.

I frequently use voice-to-text and text replacement/shortcuts, so I gave Samsung's default keyboard a chance to impress me, and I assumed it was on par with or better than iPhone, and I was sorely mistaken. Shortcuts and text replacement work okay, and certain apps don't accept them at all. I can type "ty" and it'll replace it with "thank you". Voice-to-text on IOS is also seamless, and Siri was okay at determining what I was saying and added grammar and punctuation to make the message seem more natural. The Samsung keyboard tries... But falls short often enough that it makes messages look unprofessional. I also make more mistakes on the Samsung keyboard, and half the time the phone won't even make an attempt to autocorrect the mistake.

I did some research and tried Gboard. Gboard also has text replacement that works, but to add punctuation and grammar to voice-to-text, I have to say "period" to add one. I also like the way the typing experience feels. I did more research to find a truly seamless solution, and I found FUTO. I make a LOT of mistakes manually typing with FUTO, but its voice-to-text is perfect and exactly what I'm looking for. It also does not do text replacement at all unless the phrase is common, so "ty" will expand to "thank you" but "otw" won't expand to "on the way". I did try Extenda, but it limits you to 10 shortcuts in the free version, and 15 dollars a week is ridiculous for the paid version.

So then I tried SwiftKey, and its own voice-to-text has the same issue as Gboard, where I have to say "period" to add one. I did try Futo voice with SwiftKey, and that doesn't work because using the microphone button causes Futo to pop up and minimize the keyboard, which stops text from being entered. To get around this, I have to hit the keyboard button in the bottom left to switch to Futo voice, which isn't seamless. SwiftKey also doesn't handle text replacement that well. It works, but it will replace the shortcut exactly how it's typed, regardless of where the shortcut is entered. So if I type "Hey, I'm otw" it will expand to "Hey, I'm On the way," but the O is capitalized, and it shouldn't be. I understand this is very nitpicky, but I just want my messages to seem professional regardless of where I'm typing them.

As a compromise, I have been using the Samsung default keyboard with Futo voice as an alternate keyboard since that seems to be the only way to get text replacements that work some of the time along with a good voice-to-text tool that is somewhat easy to access.

Tldr: I tried Samsung keyboard, Gboard, Futo, and SwiftKey, and each had pros and cons, and I just want a seamless voice-to-text that adds grammar and punctuation and a text replacement/shortcut tool that works as seamlessly as it does on iPhone. I'm willing to make some compromises but I'd prefer as seamless as possible. Any help or insight is appreciated!

Local music player apps with big grid layouts

I have quite a bit of albums downloaded and scrolling through them can be a bit annoying sometimes since I have so many albums downloaded so I was wondering are there music players out there they have big grid type layouts? I use musicolet and their grid limit is 5 so I'd prefer to find an app that offers more.

Device Settings Question How to disable "swipe down on notification = floating window"?

I have a OnePlus Open. I enabled this feature a while back but can't for the life of me figure out how to disable it. It is so annoying! I've tried searching for it and no one seems to have an answer either. I've tried to disable anything to do with floating windows and it keeps happening!

Thanks in advance, all!

Other How can I flash a stock ROM on my Honor phone after a bad update?

Hey everyone, I need help finding a way to flash a clean stock ROM on my HONOR phone.

An update was interrupted, and now my phone keeps restarting and lockscreen issues. I’ve already tried a factory reset, but it didn’t fix the problem. Based on my analysis of the bug report, I suspect that reflashing the ROM might solve the issue.

Since I’m using the Chinese variant, the official service centers in my region won’t support my specific model. So, I want to try reinstalling the software myself.

Does anyone know the proper method to force-flash the stock ROM on an HONOR phone? Is there any tool or workaround that would let me do this without taking it to a repair shop?

Thanks in advance!

Samsung s24 hasn't updated since 8/2025

This might be more carrier- or phone-related, but I noticed that my wife's Samsung S24 has not updated the OS since August of 2025. It's still running Android 14 and OneUI 6.something. When I tried to update it, we get the error message "Unable to update the software. A network or server error occurred. Try again later."

Plenty of free space, strong wi-fi, battery over 80%, didn't work in Safe Mode. The phone was bought new as factory unlocked in 2024, used on Total Wireless ever since, which is Verizon. My S25 Ultra was bought new, factory unlocked, is also on the same carrier and gets all the updates.

She noticed that some apps stopped working unless the OS gets updated, and it won't. Any ideas where I should start looking first?

Messages for web is stuck "Trying to Reach Your Phone"

Messages for Web Never Connects, and is stuck on "Trying to Reach Your Phone". Surely I can't be the only one being hit by this.

My issue is accurately described on https://support.google.com/messages/thread/446650595?hl=en&sjid=11520314301540465314-NC . There are now 48 people saying they have the same question on that original thread.

However, an admin has locked it and duplicated it against https://support.google.com/messages/thread/431426988?hl=en which is not at all the same issue.

I am logged in to my google account, I can pair my phone via passing the security image challenge, but messages never loads the messages from my phone.

I am on version messages.android_20261002_00_RC00.phone.dynamic which updated Oct 8 2026. That is about the same time my issue started occurring. It's also about the same time I started using my new pixel watch 5 LTE.

I have tried:

  • Unpairing and repairing messages for web. The pairing image challenge succeeds, and then drops to the above screenshot.
  • different wifi networks
  • different browsers
  • clearing cache for the app
  • clearing cache for the browser
  • clearing history for the browser
  • incognito mode on the browser
  • validating that all wifi connections work *(also validated by the fact the image handshake functions)
  • Restarting my phone
  • Phone is a fully up to date Pixel 8 Pro
  • Machine is a Ubuntu 26.04 machine with Chrome Version 155.0.8059.79 (Official Build) (x86_64).

Google's support portal won't let me post the above topic because their support portal sucks, and complains about a policy violation, but won't tell me which of the policies the above post is in violation of.

Does anyone here have a fix for this? Am I alone in this?

Do Not Disturb Exception

Hi everyone. I use a Samsung S22 Ultra and want to set up my DnD to allow only phonecalls (I have succeeded in this at least) and WhatsApp calls (where I run into a problem).

I am a light sleeper so I need DnD to silence messages, but I want phonecalls to still be able to wake me. Specifically of concern, my parents live in a different country and can only contact me urgently via whatsapp calls. They're both getting older and I need them to be able to reach me even if I'm asleep.

When I setup my DnD with WhatsApp as an exception, my phone does not vibrate when I receive a whatsapp call, it only vibrates once when the call has dropped. All messages cause my phone to vibrate. Anyone know of a way to set this up? I am forced to just not use DnD so that I am reachable in case of emergency, but I'd love a convenient way to mute notifications other than calls short of manually muting things every night (unless there is an easy way to automate this specifically?)

Thanks in advance!

Manually set home location

I have a Motorola Moto 5G Wi-Fi only and have downloaded offline maps for Google maps. For a while this works surprisingly well, giving me turn by turn instructions just like it's supposed to.

I moved from Florida to Mississippi a few months ago and the phone still thinks I live in florida. I live in a metal building now so GPS does not work inside but I have done all kinds of dancing with the phone to try to get it to update my home location. I've cleared cash, clear data, uninstalled and reinstalled the maps application, started it up outside where it can get GPS and tried to get it to update my home setting, all to no avail.

If I go outside and get in my truck and drive all the way up to my gate, I do get GPS signal and the little blue dot shows on the map exactly where my house is. If Google maps is in a good mood, it will talk to me, even announcing the street names as it gives me turn by turn direction, but it's always a crapshoot and not reliable. When it works, it works the entire trip, but when it doesn't, I end up just turning it off and navigating old school.

I got tired of the constant fights with Google maps so I installed organic maps to give it a try. Sure enough, it also thinks I'm in florida and also has no way I've found to manually update the home location. Both of these apps must be pulling some system setting from Android that shows I still live in Florida.

Does anyone have any idea how to update this setting manually? I also have an Android tablet that is Wi-Fi only that does the same thing. It's not as annoying with the tablet because I'm not trying to use it for directions but it's still annoying when I go to look up locations.
