Help/Support 🙋 Why does my phone reach 48⁰C while playing Balatro, but barely scrapes 40⁰ when playing anything else?

It has been a rough summer for me and for a lot of people here in my country. Yesterday, I was playing Balatro on my phone, since I hadn't played it in a while. Within 5 minutes of me playing, I couldn't hold the phone anymore. It was actually hurting my hands.

My phone is a OnePlus 9RT with a Snapdragon 888 5G, which I know is known for bad thermals. But this isn't normal. I've played and beaten many runs of Balatro on this same phone and while it was reaching 40⁰C for some reason, I never had the issue where my hands weren't able to actually hold the phone. Does someone have a solution for it that doesn't involve playing inside a pool of liquid nitrogen? Thank you in advance.

Observation: It's currently 38⁰C where I live, but I have AC and I play without the case.

SD 888, 888+ and 8 gen1 are the worst heat producing processors by Snapdragon due to Samsung's manufacturing process due to which they switched back to TSMC. The processor in general is bad.

Try turning off the CRT filter. I don't remember any overheating but was a big battery drain for me when I was playing, might help

I tried but it didn't work. It definitely improved battery consumption though, thanks.

Limit your fps if your phone supports it , you can do it if the game has a setting for it or if you have a preinstalled game manager

Balatro is probably the least intensive game on my phone, it definitely shouldn't behave like that.

If you got the game as a shady APK or anything, it could be doing some things you don't want in the background. Either way, I'd reinstall.

I haven't played balatro but I am surprised about some particular card games that consume ALOT of power. Wildfrost is like this as well. Its something about these 2D games that the cards are a flat 3D object. I chalk it up to optimisation because battery drain is well known issue with balatro which probably leads to the heat generation.

Do you play with Spanish language setting?

Try to switch to English. This sounds like a jape, but I'm serious.

Weird, Minecraft makes my phone super hot and drains the battery so fast (Pixel 8a)

Minecraft does that to me too, but any version older than 1.18 doesn't.
