US Inflation Is Heating Up Again.
September CPI numbers are out, and inflation came in hotter than expected.
• CPI (YoY): 3.7% vs. 3.6% expected, up from 3.4%.
• Core CPI (YoY): 2.6% vs. 2.5% expected, up from 2.4%.
• CPI (MoM): 0.6%.
• Core CPI (MoM): 0.3%.
Energy prices are driving most of the increase, with gas prices jumping 9.1% in just one month.
So what does this mean for the markets?
Hotter inflation makes it harder for the Fed to cut rates anytime soon.
That’s good news for the dollar, but could put short-term pressure on stocks and gold as bond yields rise.
Now all eyes are on the Fed and the dollar’s next move.
