PSA My friend’s brother was just taken by ICE

My friend’s brother was working on a construction site this morning in NE Albuquerque and all of a sudden ICE was there, and took five men in the raid. My friend’s brother was one. My friend speaks only Spanish so I am doing what I can to help her navigate this devastating development. I have a friend that is an attorney and we are seeking her help. I am sick that this is America in 2026. Please tell everyone you know to be on the lookout for ICE activity. We have to try and protect our immigrant community any way that we can. 💔

No Banana Ball in Albuquerque Next Year

Albuquerque won’t be on the Banana Ball schedule next year after hosting games at Isotopes Park the last two years.

It looks part of a broader shift toward reaching new markets and putting more games in larger MLB and football stadiums. Bigger venues mean more people can attend each stop, but cities like Albuquerque lose out when the schedule moves elsewhere.

How good is our food??

How good is our food? Apparently so good that people are breaking into our restaurant in the middle of the night just to get some. This is our 4th break-in this year! At this point, we might need to start offering a midnight menu. Bro, we open in the morning. You don’t have to break in to get a plate. Only in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

PSA Gas station pre-authorization charges

This morning I got $20 in gas and the station put a $225 pre-authorization charge on my card. Aside from this being absolutely excessive, this could easily cause overdrafting or checking account holds, so be careful! 😡

Question Has anyone here done the first time homebuyer programs here in ABQ? How does it work on a house that costs $400K?

• Upvotes

Specifically FirstHome and FirstDown from this site: https://housingnm.org/individuals-and-families/homebuyers/mortgage-programs

Does combining with other loans bring the payment down? Is there anyway to bring my monthly payment below $2,000 on a thirty year loan through these programs?

I’m trying to calculate but I’m a little lost on how they work.

Possible ICE vehicles seen last night

Yesterday evening I was northbound stopped at the intersection on Pan American fwy and Menaul. I was looking at the red light and heard a police siren chirp behind me and when I looked over I saw two trucks with civilian plates flash red and blues and run the red light without the caution that law enforcement vehicles usually use.

-Newer Gray Nissan Titan with a turquoise plate
-Mid 2010s Silver Chevy Silverado, four door, chili plate, with damage on the left-side passenger door

Both trucks had very dark tints on all of the windows. They got off at the Jefferson exist headed east. This was at 7ish last night though.

Posting because I saw the post about ICE being in Abq that same day, and another one today. Out of all of the kinds of modded trucks I’ve seen in this city I have never seen civilian trucks with sirens flashing red and blues

Part time job search

Howdy folks, looking for some ideas on part time work to help make ends meet for my family. I have a full time 8-5 and a young family so early morning (4-7:30ish) would be preferable but beggars can’t be choosers. Looked at Amazon but didn’t see any openings, not sure how much money there is in uber or door dash that early in the morning but I’m open to anything at the moment.

Question Local Smash Ultimate events/get togethers?

Hi all! I know the questions a bit specific, but wanted to ask if there are any local Smash Ultimate groups/get togethers in town. I figured UNM maybe has one, but am having trouble finding specifics.

Just moved back to town and my boyfriend adores the game and used to have a group he played with locally back in Denver, and would love to be able to play with others in person here too.

Skate-O-Mania Closing

We just got an email saying Skate-O-Mania was closing for good at the end of November due to difficulty in finding insurance. My son goes to skate at least three times a week and is really bummed. Are there any other skating rinks in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho, or anywhere else that's safe for a teenager to skate regularly? Thanks in advance!

I was googling to find a nearby car wash and it turned out I was 500 feet away from one. my question is, if you subtract all the car washes, massage parlors and dispensaries, how many business would be left in Albuquerque?

Politics NM HD-60 Rep Josh Hernandez raised over $15k in the last fundraising report, from a grand total of 10 donors. NONE of them were individuals - all PACs/Corporations.

Post image

In total, he has raised $140k+ from the most rent seeking industries in NM - from charter schools to oil companies to car dealerships. A breakdown by industry can be seen in the table above.

Rep. Hernandez has only raised $1410 from the city of Rio Rancho, <1% of his total. Only 3 of his contributions appear to be from his district - one of them being a Republican PAC.

There’s a perception these days that Republicans have become a party of populism, especially in the Trump era. The reality seems to be very different. Rep. Hernandez is one example, but I think it is significant to show the outsized influence of a small number of businesses.
