hope you don’t mind me reaching out! I am doing some family research and trying to connect with my relatives still living in the Georgia area.
My grandmother was Ella Fain (later Ella Johnson, who moved to Massachusetts and sadly passed away in 2018). Her parents—my great-grandparents—were Sam Fain and Tena Fain, who lived on Highland Alley in Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia back in the 1920s and 1930s.
I know that my grandmother Ella was the only one of her siblings to leave Georgia. I am trying to locate and connect with the descendants of her brother, Charlie W. Fain (whom I believe went by the nickname 'Buster').
I am also looking for any family lines connected to my grandmother's paternal uncles: Dave Fain Jr., West Fain, and Jim Fain. Their father was my great-great-grandfather, Dave Fain Sr.
If any of these names or stories sound familiar to your family, I would love to chat, share what I have found, and learn more about our family tree!
Thank you so much for your time,

There are way too many law enforcement officials for this town. I constantly see the working poor being pulled over and arrested. The tickets are out of control and priced heavily. This city has a habit of bleeding their citizens dry to the point where we have no economy. Lord please get me out of this place. This town needs some serious help!

Where is everyone getting their steps in locally? I know about Chehaw, Radium Springs, and the path along the Flint. We also go out to Kolomoki and Reed Bingham but sometimes don't want to drive that far, especially with gas prices and this heat.

Je'Nita Lane who serves on the Dougherty County Board of Assessors, is the former Albany attorney facing criminal charges.

Which helps explain the criminally high reassessment on our homes... 🥴

So, I'm heading to Albany, GA pretty soon. I'm trying to find a rental apartment / independent home for 2 years that's safe and has stuff nearby, since I've got my wife and two little ones with me. I've heard some not-so-great things about Albany on the news, and I'm wondering if it's really that bad everywhere or if it's just certain spots? Safety is my priority. Any tips on where to stay would be awesome!

Why does ward 4 look like this? And that blank chunk between 4 and 5, is that not Dougherty County or not Albany?

I know I'm not crazy because I've spoken to other people but I just want to warn Sales Professionals that the Albany GA area is not a conducive area for sales. You will run into low traffic, bad credit and sad to say but most of the people that have good credit don't even make purchases in this area. I honestly don't know how people make it here. Call me negative or pessimistic but it's the truth.

Today, the city commission voted for a 365 day moratorium on data centers in Albany, with the option to extend the moratorium for 6 months
They also voted to have the city planning commission study and recommend zoning and other regulations for data centers, as well as for a for an independent consultant do the same
Now I'm are I got some of the details wrong here, and if other people want to give further clarifications, that would be great
This is not an insignificant victory and there is still work to be done, but we should be glad that public pressure appears to have had an affect
For all those that supported the moratorium, thank you

Just thinking out loud here...
But one concern on my mind about the potential data center is the creation of a monopsony
Just as a monopoly is where one seller has inordinate power over a market, a monopsony where a single buyer has overwhelming power in a market
And if we bring in a data center, something that will use as much power and water as the rest of Albany, that single buyer will have more power over the utility market than the rest of us
And it's easier to serve a single interest than all of our interests
And when you have a situation like that, do you really think our local government has the wherewithal and courage to make them pay a fair market price?
Or will they just shift the costs to the rest of us?
But, hope sprints eternal. Oregon just passed a law to increase rates on certain electrical users: https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/data-centers/power-company-hikes-data-center-bills-by-30-percent-cuts-residential-electricity-costs-by-1-3-percent-oregon-approves-change-through-power-act-pushes-developments-using-more-than-20-megawatts-of-power-to-pay-their-fair-share
Maybe we should do something similar?
Edit: Typo

You know data center rollouts have got to be linked to corruption because there are no positive optics I can see.
And before anyone says jobs, the vast majority are extremely temporary and they don't hire locals for those construction jobs. They bring people in for those.
