Some quick answers:

You'll find a lot of answers to basic questions about BMT or enlisting in the AF here: http://afbmt.com/ and in the BMT FAQ

We don't know the answers to your obscure medical questions. We aren't doctors. Don't trust medical advice given by strangers on the Internet. Getting anecdotal information from other people that may or may not have a similar diagnosis or condition to you will not help you in any way. Everyone's medical situation is different.

Marijuana usage is not disqualifying. Just be honest about any usage.

No, we don't know what jobs are available at any given time, or your chances of getting said job, or how long it will take for you to get the job, or how long it'll take for you to get to basic training or OTS.

Yes, some recruiters are lazy. Keep hounding them or find another recruiter.

Being a pilot is hard. Most of them come from the Air Force Academy, then ROTC. Very few slots available for OTS. Highly competitive.

Instructions for how to receive "Verified USAF Member" flair in /r/AirForceRecruits

As I say there, if you're not comfortable sending an email from your work account, let me know what you'd like to do and we can possibly work out another way.

I will just add the flair and then delete the email, but I understand not wanting me to know who you are. Especially if you're an awful person that says awful things in other subreddits. :)

Let me know if you have ideas for other flair types or anything else!

Recruiter/process question Herniated disc?

• Upvotes

I was recently in a car accident back in August, and they did a MRI, they found a herniated disc in my neck. It doesn’t cause me pain or anything so it’s business as usual. It’s just I want to join the Air Force so bad, is this going to disqualify me? Should I just not disclose it? Idk

General Advice (19F) Contact Recruiter first or weight loss first?

• Upvotes

I (19F) want to join the Air Force, but as of right now, I don't meet the height and weight standards. I would need to lose some weight to meet them. Every other standard, I think I will be fine. My question is: should I still reach out to a recruiter to get the process started, or should I lose the weight first and then reach out?

ASVAB/AFOQT Is my Asvab score good enough?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I took a practice test at my recruiters office and scored a 72, so I was a bit upset when I saw my actual asvab results. I’d prefer doing mechanical work on aircraft’s or some sort of mechanical work for the aerospace. Will my scores make it difficult to accomplish this?

General Advice Continue education or enlist? 20F

20F, and debating on joining the Air Force or Space Force. I currently have my associates degree, and should I decide to continue schooling, I will have a BA in the next two years. I am aware that enlisting now will secure an e-3 rank, but if I continue to pursue education, I could obtain a BA and potentially commission. I’ve heard that it may be challenging to be an officer in the AF due to its competitive nature, so I’d appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Jobs 1D735 vs 1D7X1

When reviewing my qualified jobs paper I saw that I qualified for 1D735 but not 1D7X1. I looked up the scores needed for 1D7X1 and saw that I met the requirement. How come I didn't see it on my paper if I met the score for it?

BMT BMT Packing Questions About TSA and Shower Essentials

For those who flew to BMT, how did you manage the TSA liquids rule? I know you’re technically limited to one quart-sized bag for liquids in your carry-on, but I have enough toiletries to fill at least two bags, which should be my maximum. All of my liquid products are within the TSA’s 3.4-ounce (100 mL) limit individually. Did anyone bring two quart-sized bags and have any issues getting through TSA?

Second, what did y’all use to wash yourselves at BMT? Washcloths, loofahs, bath sponges, exfoliating gloves, or something else? Were any of these provided, or did you bring your own? And if you brought your own, how did you keep them clean and dry between showers? Did you wash and reuse them or buy replacements at the BX?

Fitness Running advice?

Just left my DEP workout and had a massive reality check on my cardio.

For context, I'm not out of shape at all when it comes to strength. I'm in the gym lifting pretty much every day, locked in on my diet, and usually do standard cardio after my lifts (StairMaster, Incline walking) . At the DEP call today we did 40 pushups and 15 situps and that part was light work.

The problem is we did a .55 mile run and I was fighting for my life after. My legs weren't sore or heavy at all, I just couldn't catch my breath for like 10 minutes after we stopped and got super lightheaded.
Clearly the StairMaster and lifting aren't doing anything for my actual running stamina. For the guys who lifted a lot before shipping out but had zero aerobic capacity, what's the best way to fix my breathing over the next few weeks? Do I just need to suck it up and jog slow for 20-30 minutes a few times a week, or should I be doing sprints/intervals?

Jobs Tech school orders don’t feel right

Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone with more insight or who has gone through a similar pipeline can help me sanity-check my orders.

I recently received my official orders, but the timeline seems a bit out of sync with what I’d expect for my AFSC (Radio Frequency Transmission Systems, 1D7X1R). Here is my current schedule:

BMT Start: November 10
BMT Graduation: December 30
Tech School Start: January 6
Tech School End: March 1st

This block from January 6 to March 1 is roughly 8 weeks, which doesn’t seem to line up with the standard full length of the RF Transmissions Systems tech school pipeline (96 days online).

I’m currently waiting to hear back from both my recruiter and my unit leadership, but things are moving a bit slow on their end.

Is this the case because my tech school has multiple phases and I need to graduate each individual phase? If that is the case is it problematic that my orders only show the first phase? Or is all this just a common administrative glitch?

If anyone has been in a similar boat or knows how this pipeline is structured, I’d really appreciate your input!

Recruiter/process question Seriously interested in OTS

I'm in the first year of a two-year Master's program. I have considered serving since high school, but I signed an athletic scholarship to run XC and track, and then transferred for my final two years of eligibility because I finished undergrad in 3 years. Is it worth reaching out to a recruiter now, or will they most likely tell me to come back when I am almost done with my program?

General Advice Officer Route / Cross Training

I am a green card holder with a Masters degree in computer science. I scored 93 on my actual ASVAB test and was told to shortlist top 10 jobs where I had finance jobs / Medical job options on the list. It’s been like 3 months now and I got a call to join SERVICES. I am greatful for everything but bit confused like should I take it and go towards officer route and cross train later on. How long will it take to lean towards officer route? And extra information will really help me navigate through the future plan.

Recruiter is telling me there are not much job options right now and not much job positions are opening anytime soon.
