Politics Mega Thread (MOD ONLY) POLITICS MEGA THREAD
Welcome to week # of the politics mega-thread! Once again, this will be a free-for-all without censorship. The thread, and our sub, are open to all walks of life. Everyone participating needs to remember that not everyone shares the same opinion, and cussing someone out, censoring different opinions, or being downright disrespectful only weakens your own argument.
While national politics often affect Texans, politics in the mega thread MUST be related to Texas in some way, shape, or form. Unnecessarily bringing up national politics in our state sub without direction creates disagreements, and detracts from the nature of the sub. You must make the relation to Texas CLEAR, or your posting will be removed! Here’s an example; “Federal immigration policy impacts Texas by influencing border security, state resources, and the economy due to its long border with Mexico.”
As a reminder, I am once again stating that POLITICAL POSTS AND COMMENTS DO NOT LEAVE THIS THREAD. The sub rules still apply here.
By posting rule-breaking content, you are disrespecting both the sub, your fellow members, and moderators, and WE, as moderators, reserve the right to take down your content when it violates our rules.
Mega threads will be locked when the next is posted.

Genuinely excited by a candidate for the first time in quite a long time. He truly seems to get it. The fact that he's eager to debate tells me everything... he's not afraid to have an exchange of ideas (well, his ideas and Paxton's... bluster? Bullshit?); he knows what he believes and he's ready to articulate it behind enemy lines (Fox News).

Does anyone think it’d be feasible for Don Huffines to run for Governor or Lieutenant Governor in the future? I know there’s that controversy with the ranch in New Mexico, however, from what I read about it, it strikes me as a nothing burger. For example people are claiming he didn’t allow LEOs to search the ranch. If that did happen, why isn’t there a paper trail regarding this, and where’s the warrant? I notice different versions of this claim, ranging from the local Sheriff’s Department attempting to execute this supposed search, and now more recently, the F.B.I. I don’t think it’s really a partisan statement to simply point out that something like that would probably be documented, and, it hurts the credibility of the claim, when those making it can’t even decide upon which specific agency was attempting to conduct said search.

Is it too much to ask that our politicians going forward be completely disconnected from people like Epstein who would blackmail politicians after giving them the opportunity to do horrible things?
I haven't heard anything about LEOs not being able to search the ranch other than the FBI telling New Mexico law enforcement to back off their investigation before 2020 and then not actually investigating anything.
My main issue is that Huffines bought the property because he was connected enough to know that it was going to be sold cheap and then proceeded to do a huge amount of landscaping and digging up of large random patches of earth/knocking down several structures. Then we get a release of the files and there are reports of people buried where he dug up the earth and abused in the structures he knocked down.
Benefit of the doubt seems like a difficult thing to give politicians lately, and I personally would rather see some new faces in our Texas leadership.

We don’t want Don Huffines in any political position. He is a creepy bootlicker just like the rest of the GOP and billionaire class.

Anyone planning on attending or protesting the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas next week?

It appears that the republican midterm convention was a fun party for attendees but, according to Paxton, may have hurt the republican ticket.
NYT - G.O.P. Nominee in Texas Privately Said Trump’s Convention Hurt Him
“The recording, which is muffled at times, captures Mr. Paxton being asked, ‘Do you feel like he’s a little bit of a drag?’ It is not clear from the audio whom the questioner is referring to.
Mr. Paxton responds: ‘So to be honest with you, the numbers — when we did that convention — it dropped our numbers. Everybody’s numbers dropped. Right now, yeah, not good.’”
“Mr. Paxton’s comments at the Washington fund-raiser echo other private whispers by Republicans that the party’s convention would not be helpful, given Mr. Trump’s sagging approval ratings.
Since the gathering, the midterm outlook for Republicans has only darkened, leaving Mr. Paxton in a precarious position just five weeks before Election Day.”
“But one influential Republican disagrees with Mr. Paxton — and is optimistic that the gathering helped the party.
‘The fact that we had such a successful convention really helped Ken Paxton,’ Mr. Trump said a few days afterward. ‘He was a big part of it.” He added: ‘The convention helped Ken Paxton a lot.’”

While at TribFest 2026, Karl Rove talked briefly about the republican midterm convention from 23:00 to 24:30:

This article quantifies the loss. Trump’s midterm convention cost the republican party $40M and an average of 2.3 points in the polls.
iPaper - The leaked recording that shows why Republicans are done with Trump
“According to RealClearPolitics’s polling averages, the Democrats benefited from a 2.3 point bounce at the close of the GOP convention on 10 September, rising from 48.1 per cent to 50.4 per cent support, with the Republicans languishing on just over 42 per cent – where they remain stuck to this day. The $40m convention was dubbed the ‘Trumpapalooza’ because it was all about the President and his Vice-President, JD Vance. Lawmakers who felt obliged to show up for loyalty’s sake griped on the quiet that it was a distraction that took them away from campaigning on local issues in their home states.”
