Announcement Why We Can No Longer Allow Recommendations for Dr. Salar Hazany

The moderation team has completed an extensive investigation into coordinated deceptive activity on this subreddit. The evidence concluded that Dermatologist, Dr. Salar Hazany and/or members associated with The Scar Institute of Beverly Hills in California, USA, have repeatedly created fake accounts, posed as satisfied patients, and simultaneously falsified negative outcome testimonials acting as real patients at other medical offices. The same practice was formally warned and temporarily suspended early this year but the offenses resumed and escalated.

The community’s safety and trust are non-negotiable, we have a zero-tolerance stance toward any form of covert marketing, shilling, or competitor defamation. Accounts identified as socks, shills, or alts tied to this provider have been permanently banned.

Separate from the astroturfing scheme, we have received a growing number of patient complaints that fall well outside the scope of ordinary side-effect discussions. These include:

- Innapropriate conduct and comments made to both male and female patients.

- Unexpected facial sagging, facial-fat loss, and other serious anatomical changes.

- Dr. Hazany has reportedly delegated procedures to alternate staff mid treatment to rotating medical students without the patient’s prior knowledge or consent.

We are not a medical regulator; we can, however, protect this subreddit from being used as an extension of an unethical marketing department and from becoming an unwitting referral pipeline for a provider whose conduct might soon by under formal scrutiny by state and specialty boards.

What this means going forward:

  1. No recommendations referencing Dr. Salar Hazany or The Scar Healing Institute of Beverly Hills (SHI) will be allowed.
  2. Anyone who suspects new shill accounts is asked to use the “Report” button rather than engaging; witch-hunting threads derail discussion and will be removed.
  3. “DM me for the name/website/price” is not allowed. All substantive information must be posted publicly so every member can benefit. If you’re tempted to send or solicit a private message for a referral, those comments will be removed and repeat offenders will be banned.
  4. Physician participation is welcome and general education is encouraged, however, funnels that steer users off-board (“message me to schedule,” “visit my site for pricing”) are not. Answer in-thread, cite published evidence, and let readers decide their next step.
  5. There are times that we receive reports of suspicious comments. When a report is made, an investigation is done and we reach out to the commentator for more details. If we determine that the account is legitimate, we ask that you remain respectful while the commentator continues to engage in the thread. Sometimes people want privacy.

We recognize that cosmetic and procedural sub-specialties are contentious by nature, and bad outcomes can occur even in the best hands. Transparency, informed consent, and honest peer-to-peer discussion are the only ways this board remains useful. Practices that deliberately erode that transparency forfeit the privilege of being mentioned here.

If you have questions about this policy, contact the mod team via ModMail.

Thank you for helping us keep this a transparent community.

Before & After My Ongoing Journey with Acne Scars

I’ve been dealing with acne scars for decades and have tried several different procedures. Subcision has made a significant difference for me and saved me a lot of money. I’m still receiving treatment from a caring, passionate doctor who has helped me regain my confidence. I hesitated to share this, but I hope my experience helps others going through something similar and considering subcision. I’m so glad I took this step.

Venting Can we stop pretending like it's common to have acne scars?

I don't know about you but I'm around college aged people and rarely do I see anyone with acne scars. It's not makeup either because no one really cares about what they look like in class. I believe that millennials are the ones with worse skin because of less knowledge online about treatments and products for skincare.

[Skin Concern] Atrophic Scarring acne scarring

I took accutane and it left me with some really ugly acne scars that I am really self conscious about. I always hide the side of my face with my hair and completely stopped putting my hair up due to do how insecure I am. I’ve talked to my dermatologist and he seems not to care because he has only suggested micro needling and I know the scars I have won’t get better with just micro needling so I was hoping to find people with the same scars as me just to see what treatments have helped the type of scarring I have. I am definitely looking for a new dermatologist but for now I just need some hope that it’ll be okay.

I got Venus viva about a week ago, I am not seeing big results but I do notice my pores are a little smaller and redness has gone down. My skin is my biggest insecurity and I am getting a little down because I am not seeing the results I wanna see. I know I have two more sessions left but I am scared that my scars will never go away😢 I hate going out and the lightening makes my scars look 100x worse. Can anyone give me there advice or experience with Venus viva? (And is it normal to break out after getting this treatment? Its giving me flashbacks to my bad acne days)

[Skin Concern] Atrophic Scarring Can someone tell me what I can do?

I don’t know how much the camera picked up. I honestly didn’t even think i had that much scarring, I just thought it was hyperpigmentation that could be gone overtime. But some people pointed out that I had “holes” on my face, now that’s all i can think about. I’ve seen people saying that scars cant go away 100% even after treatments. I wish I took care of my acne sooner. Now I have to live with it. I’m 24F and completed my accutane dose 4months ago

Edit: I tried my best to take a “high quality” photo. I’ve been trying for several days actually. But this is the best I can go ig. please don’t remove my post, admin

Information/Research At my breaking point, Bay Area, without a car - flying to Dr Qazi or treating locally? How did you decide?

Hey everyone I'm in the Bay Area, 24F, dealing with Boxcars, icepick scars and hyperpigmentation and I still get breakouts. I've been battling with acne for over 10 years ever since puberty and it has left a number on my skin and mental health.

My skin is really reactive, which makes me nervous about picking the wrong person. I want to find someone who speaks english based in California since its most convenient for me and has a very conservative approach to scar treatment as I am terrified of sagging and burning my skin or turning the texture to leather which I've seen stories here before-but I don't want to live in fear anymore and this has ruined my ability to feel confident in myself and even talk to people. Even fillers (the idea that they stay there forever or migrate/not a part of my body) are a little scary for me and probably arent' something I'll pursue.

Dr. Qazi in Newport Beach keeps coming up with a great reputation and I'm tempted, but I'm stuck on the real question: is it worth traveling for a scar specialist? I have searched forever but can't find someone I find reputable here in Bay Area.

My situation:
* No car - I'd fly SJC/SFO → SNA and Uber everywhere down there
* Money matters, but I'd rather pay properly to do it right the first time than cut corners
* I know this is multiple sessions, which is what scares me about travel every session = flight + hotel + Ubers (I see cheap flights from frontier but their reliability sounds terrible and I don't want to end up missing an appointment and also I'd have to take time off so maybe I'd fly in on a sunday, have monday appointment and leave monday evening?)

My questions:
* If you traveled for treatment was it worth it? How many trips did it end up being?
* Anyone treated by Qazi, did you combine consult + first treatment in one trip?
* Bay Area people, who did you see, and would you go back?

I'm so tired of being sad and being cropped out of photos 😢 (this legitimately happened when I won a contest and they cropped me out of every photo and it still hurts me to this day) please give guidance if anyone has any

EDIT: forgot to mention I’m East Asian if that has anything to do with scarring

[Skin Concern] Atrophic Scarring Best Options for scar?

I have this scar, i think it’s a boxcar. I was wondering what the best but most cost effective treatments would be. I like it’s in between being deep and shallow.

Please don’t downvote for it being one scar, it’s still a big insecurity of mine because of how visible it is on my face.

Also sorry for the peach fuzz this is harsh lighting!

[Treatment] Lasers CO2 laser effects

I did CO2 laser 2 weeks ago and i’ve more or less fully recovered from the peeling etc. But I feel like my face looks about the same after, maybe just smoother since the top layer literally was lasered off and i haven’t had whiteheads on my nose since. Would I see my scars smoothen in 3 or 6 months? I don’t know if I should go for 2 more sessions which is what my doctor recommended

Information/Research ¡HOLA! Long time lurker needing advice

Thumbnail

Hi all! Need advice from anyone that’s been undergoing treatment for acne scars (mostly box & rolling scars)

I have 2 depressed scars. One on each cheek.

Scar #1 is my most recent one from a very deep-within-the-skin pimple (or cyst, idk) dating back to late May of this year. However, due to some left over gunk, it was re popped early September. So, while I do understand it may still be healing, I don’t think the depression will subside much at all.

Scar #2 is my oldest from a HUGE cyst back in 2021. This one is entirely healed and colorless. But the harsh light KILLS me and it makes it look like a moon crater. Definitely my biggest confidence killer.

What treatment would you think would work best of each scar? TCA? Laser? Microneedling?

I see everyone mention subcision but that is not an option in my country, unfortunately. I’m from the Caribbean.

My derm suggested filler for #2 but that’s about it. For #1, he said I should give it more time.

Currently on differin (adapalene & benzoyl peroxide). Will probably get back on tret by the end of this year.

Would CO2 laser make any difference for my scars? A derm offered me 3 sessions for $1000CAD. Is that even a good price?

Discussion What helped you understand which type of acne scarring you have before choosing a treatment?

One thing that seems difficult about dealing with acne scars is understanding that not all scars are the same. Some are indented, some have sharper edges, and others have a more uneven texture. It seems like the approach that works for one person might not be suitable for someone else.

For those who have researched professional treatments for atrophic acne scars, I'm curious about how you approached the decision-making process.

- Did a qualified professional explain the type of scarring you had?

- What helped you understand the differences between treatments such as microneedling, subcision and laser resurfacing?

- How important was it to understand the potential risks, downtime and realistic outcomes before deciding?

- Did you find that your treatment plan changed after a professional assessment?

- Looking back, what questions do you wish you had asked before starting treatment?

I'm particularly interested in how people evaluated their options and made informed decisions, rather than looking for a single treatment that supposedly works for everyone.

What do you think is the most important thing to understand about your scarring before considering a procedure?

I swear even if I wear makeup, in some lighting you can still see the scars. So I feel self conscious all the time. My skin is textured and ugly, especially up close like in these pics. I’m looking for some of your thoughts, I still get some pimples here n there, I don’t know what I should do. Laser?

[Skin Concern] Atrophic Scarring Feeling Sad about acne scars

Post image
3 Upvotes

I feel so bad about my acne scars. In dimly lit places with soft lighting, I feel at ease, but in places with strong sunlight, I feel disfigured. I see posts from other people here who have acne scars, and I feel like their scars are so much less ugly and noticeable than mine. My brother, my mother, my psychologist, and a friend of mine all say they barely notice my scars and that they are minimal, but I have a hard time believing them.I need help
